Ask a development team how they find out a donor has lapsed and the answer is usually the same. There is a report for that. The report is real, and it works. Nothing in the stack holds the job of asking for it though. A lapsed-donor list exists on the days someone remembers to request one, and on every other day the same information just sits there. So drift gets discovered on the reporting schedule instead of when it starts. Months can sit between a donor going quiet and anyone seeing it, and that is not carelessness. The noticing job was never assigned to anything. A standing reminder to run the report weekly is the cheap fix, and it hands you names without reasons, so each name still needs research before anyone can act on it. Gratefully holds the job itself. It watches contact recency and engagement across the whole portfolio, and when a relationship starts cooling it comes to you with the reason attached, like the stalled next step or the appeal that never went out. The flag lands in your inbox digest and links straight to the donor, so finding out no longer depends on thinking to ask. Nobody should have to remember to check whether something went wrong. That is a job software can hold. See what the signals look like at gratefully.io

A development director described his job to us on a demo call with one word, a bridge. He meant that his CRM holds the gift history while the rest of what he needs lives in spreadsheets, email threads, and the event platform. None of those systems talk to each other. So he does the talking, moving information between them by hand and reconciling the differences. Every nonprofit we met this month runs some version of his stack, a CRM plus four or five other tools, each bought to do its own job well. There was never a layer whose job was connecting them, so a person ends up doing the connecting. That work never finishes either, because the systems keep producing new data to reconcile. Hours from a senior fundraiser's week go into it, every week. Consolidating onto one platform would end it, and that platform does not exist. Even the biggest CRMs cover their gaps by bolting on acquisitions, so every stack ends up assembled from pieces. Gratefully is built to be the layer those pieces never had. It pulls the CRM, the spreadsheets, and the documents into one donor model, and a question about any donor draws on all of it at once, cited back to where each piece came from. The bridge work moves to software. The person gets to go back to being a fundraiser. See how the connecting layer works at gratefully.io

Volunteer management shouldn't feel like you're constantly putting out fires... right? We talk a lot about "impact" in our sector. But we rarely talk about the infrastructure required to sustain it. I’ve worked in nonprofits across education, arts, and therapeutic centers, so I understand: You have a big vision for community connection, but you get bogged down in the logistics of shifts, hours, and emails. Sustainable volunteerism isn't just about finding more people. It's about building a system that scales with you. If you are thinking about your next move for 2026, you need a roadmap. On Tuesday, Dec 9th, Oliver Waters and I are hosting a live workshop to help you design it: Crafting Your 2026 Vision: A Volunteer-Tech Roadmap. This is for you if: You are tired of manual tracking. You want to align your tech needs with your actual mission. You want to see what sustainable models look like for other orgs across North America. 📍 This is what we'll cover: → The Audit: How to honestly assess your current tech landscape for gaps. → The Strategy: Work hands-on with our Volunteer Management Software workbook to create actionable plans tailored to your needs. → The Roadmap: Leave with a personalized "2026 Tech Action Plan", ready to implement. Space is limited for this interactive session. Grab your free spot here: https://lnkd.in/eMhBBw28 P.S. — Can't make it live? Register anyway and we'll send you the recording to your inbox.

Culture eats strategy for breakfast. It is my belief that corporate strategy succeeds when there is a strong culture that supports it. Ontario’s energy landscape is evolving rapidly. With electricity demand expected to grow 75% by 2050, the transition ahead is complex and it won’t succeed unless it’s done safely. That’s where the Electrical Safety Authority comes in. We’ve made culture central to how we operate. At ESA, our cornerstone is safety, our staff are adaptable, people-focused, accountable, inclusive, courageous and act with integrity. Those attributes aren’t just aspirational — they’re embedded into how we hire, set goals, treat customers and deliver on our safety mandate to the electricity sector and to the public. Because without a strong culture, strategy is just words on a page. I was recently a guest on the CEO Global Network Podcast. Host John Wilson and I talk about the importance of culture as well as how ESA is using data to reduce the risk of electrical harm across the province and balancing innovation with risk. 🎧Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gbuBzESa #JohnWilson #CEOGlobalNetworkPodcast #electricity #safety #culture

Excited to announce that Enterprise Singapore just launched our second #Sustainability Report! This report describes not only Enterprise Singapore’s own sustainability journey, but also highlights how we support Singapore businesses on theirs. By offering resources ranging from sustainability playbooks to financing schemes, our goal is to help businesses build capabilities, sharpen their competitive edge and capture growth opportunities in the green economy. In 2024, we partnered over 3,700 Singapore businesses in their sustainability initiatives, helping them develop green products and solutions and drive industry transformation towards a low-carbon future. Besides champion sustainability for businesses, we too are on our own capability building and green transition journey, strengthening our internal ESG capabilities and practices. A special shoutout to our Sustainability Champions, who inspire greener practices at work! Last year, they launched Sustainnovation, our first sustainability ideathon, where teams pitched innovative ideas that drive best practices at work. Some favourites include a communal lunchbox and indoor farming system. This collective effort across enterprises, colleagues, and partners strengthens our commitment to sustainability. I look forward to building on this momentum, helping industries and enterprises sail towards a greener future, wherever they’re growing. Read our report for more: https://lnkd.in/gRqD-Tjk

Some of the most serious electrical incidents involve people who never thought electricity was part of their job. That’s why collaboration across sectors — from utilities to construction — is so important. When we connect, share lessons and keep the conversation going, we save lives. 👉In the article below, I share key takeaways and reflections from my recent presentation at the Annual General Meeting of the League of Champions.

I don’t see myself as a CEO! I see myself as someone trying to reform how development is done. For me, everything starts with one question: Does this serve people? Somewhere along the way, development became more about reports and less about reality, more about frameworks and less about families. We forgot that progress isn’t measured in presentations, it’s measured in lives. I believe our work should stay simple, honest, and human. Because if it doesn’t serve people, it serves nothing at all! #Development #Leadership #Purpose #SustainableWork

This week, I’m sharing the new UNICEF report on global stunting prevention, a timely reminder that early childhood nutrition is not just a health priority, but a foundation for a nation’s future. Reflecting on the Egyptian Food Bank work in delivering valuable, balanced and fortified nutrition, in 2025 we managed to achieve the below impact: • Delivered 9 million meals through one of the largest NGO-led school-feeding programs in the region to help improve attendance, focus, and reduce anemia. • Supported 1,000 pregnant & lactating mothers, through fortified nutrition packs and health & nutrition sessions. • Reducing severe stunting among enrolled infants from 14% at birth to 2% by four months. Our work reflects UNICEF’s call to move beyond short-term fixes, investing early, at scale, and across sectors, to safeguard children’s growth, health, and potential. We work to ensure every child’s right to a healthy start! #Humanity #Leadership #EgyptianFoodBank https://lnkd.in/dgNwS93M

AI this. AI that. Our feeds are full of AI. This free webinar on June 10th is different... As a charity leader (CEO, Director or Trustee) you know you need to address AI, but it can be daunting and overwhelming knowing where to start. In our sector, relationships and trust are key. Reputation really matters. So, how do you integrate Al in ways that protect your reputation AND increase your income and donations? This is why I'm co-hosting a free 50-minute webinar with Salvatore Salpietro from Dataro on Wednesday 10 June: "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘩𝘺, 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘕𝘰𝘸, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘐 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴." We've designed this free webinar for CEOs, fundraising directors and trustees who are asking hard questions about how AI can raise more money, with less budget, and without breaking trust with your team or supporters. We'll cover: ◼ How to move forward safely. ◼ What good governance looks like. ◼ How to raise more donations with AI ◼ Charity testimonials and case studies with proven results. ◼ You can come with any question you have about AI. Register free using this link: https://lnkd.in/g67dEGPe AI is already inside your charity... Whether you have an AI plan or not. Your team are using it now, with or without your knowledge. We've all seen the telltale 'EM' dashes "—", in emails, posts and documents. AI is also baked into all the software you already pay for. Crucial decisions on AI should sit at board and director level: where the red lines are, who is accountable, and what AI is allowed to do with your data. Jacob Collier said something brilliant about AI recently... AI excels at "the most predictable next thing...but what is meaningful for humans is so often unpredictable." Come and explore how AI can make powerful and reliable "predictions", so you can stay at the helm, free people for meaningful supporter facing work, and grow your donor base, safely and ethically.

MOSTLY for my 🇬🇧 and 🇪🇺 nonprofit friends: Your team is already using AI. You just don't know the who, what, or how. 88% of charities are in the same spot. But most have no plan or are otherwise still grappling with it (I am also - every day. We're in this together!). On WEDNESDAY June 10, I’ll be co-hosting a free 50-minute seminar with Darren Richards (Founder, Charity AI Partners and previous Global Fundraising and Marketing Director, Mercy Ships) on how to move from reacting to AI to proactively leading it. Q&A to follow - ask Darren all your hard questions! Give me the easy ones. 😬 🏆 We’ll share how one UK charity used AI to HALVE their mailing volume, double response rates and hit a 6:1 ROI, leveraging Dataro donor prediction AI tech. Another great day of creating digital opportunity. 💻❤️ I’m incredibly proud of the work we recently completed with Newport Independent Schools, made possible through the generous sponsorship of TC Energy. We put laptops in Newport students' hands, but we didn't stop there. A computer is just a piece of hardware until a student knows what to do with it. Adding tech education gives them the skills AND confidence to take off. What I love most about this work is seeing what happens when a school district, corporate partner, and nonprofit come together around a shared goal: giving students the tools they need to learn, grow, and imagine what’s possible. Thank you to TC Energy and Newport Independent Schools for trusting Compudopt to be part of this work. It is a privilege to serve our local communities and to see partnerships like this turn access into opportunity. For years, we've talked about the child care workforce crisis—recruitment, retention, career pathways, and professionalization. One of the biggest gaps is surprisingly simple: child care remains one of the only essential professions without a clear, consistent entry point. That’s a problem we can solve. In my latest blog, I make the case for adopting the Child Development Associate® (CDA) credential as the nation's entry-level credential for child care professionals. It’s a practical, portable, competency-based starting point that is already trusted, already available, and already helping prepare educators for the realities of the classroom. The CDA is the best first step. https://lnkd.in/gnjrCXnu

We recently proposed an The IDA Health Window at the World Bank as the solution to global health financing reform. It would provide on-budget funds to governments to expand the provision of basic life saving health services. The idea is beginning to gain traction. Today we publish four commentaries: - Gerald Manthalu (Africa CDC) - Kalipso Chalkidou (World Health Organization) - John-Arne Røttingen (Wellcome Trust) - Agnes Soucat,(Agence Française de Développement). 👉 https://lnkd.in/e6dubNYY The authors are broadly supportive, and call for further development of the proposal, particularly on how it relates to funding of global public goods, the private sector, and regional development banks. Thanks very much to the authors.

I still remember my first days at UN Headquarters in 2008. So much has changed since then… including the way we think about security. The past few months have been a powerful reminder that climate action, energy transition and nature protection are increasingly central to our resilience, prosperity and security. So, if you’ll be in New York for the UN General Assembly on 22 September, I’d love to invite you to a timely conversation: Can climate and nature solutions help address today’s most pressing security and sustainability challenges? Join ClientEarth and Global Commons Alliance for a breakfast panel: “The New Security Agenda: Clean Energy, Nature Restoration and Economic Security” For more info and to register visit: https://lnkd.in/eYjp5dVm Confirmed speakers so far: - Ilona Szabó de Carvalho, Co-founder and President of the Instituto Igarapé - Dr Wojciech Modzelewski, PhD, Lawyer Public Finance, Energy Markets and Competition ClientEarth - Luc Bas, Director of Belgium’s Cerac - Climate Risk Assessment Center and Chief Planetary Officer We’ll explore how clean energy, nature restoration, and resilient food and water systems can strengthen strategic resilience and advance planetary stewardship in an increasingly volatile world. A new security agenda needs to look beyond traditional borders — and at the systems that underpin our economies, societies and shared future. ++ Will you be in NYC for UNGA? Let’s connect 🙏
- ClientEarthSince 11 Sept 2026
This year’s United Nations General Assembly comes at a particularly consequential moment. Geopolitical tensions, energy security concerns and growing pressure on the international rules-based order are reshaping the way we think about security. In this context, climate change and the energy transition cannot be treated as separate from the security debate. The resilience of our energy systems, access to clean and affordable energy, and the protection of the natural systems are increasingly questions of strategic security. I’m therefore very pleased to be joining the discussion in New York on 22 September for “The New Security Agenda: Clean Energy, Nature Restoration and Economic Security”, organised by ClientEarth and the Global Commons Alliance during UNGA. Together with Ilona Szabó de Carvalho, Luc Bas and other speakers, we will discuss how clean energy, nature restoration, and resilient food and water systems can contribute to security and economic resilience in an increasingly volatile world. I’ll be bringing an energy-sector perspective to the conversation, including how law and regulation can help build more resilient energy systems and accelerate the transition away from fossil-fuel dependence. If you’re in New York for UNGA, I’d be very happy to see you there. 📅 22 September 🍎 New York City 🔗 More information and registration: https://lnkd.in/eYjp5dVm And if you’ll be around during UNGA week, feel free to reach out - it would be great to connect!

It was truly energizing to bring the entire Civic Marketplace team together for our offsite in London. Taking a step back to look at what we accomplished this year and then looking ahead to 2026: underscored just how meaningful this work is. When you get everyone in the same room, you’re reminded that we’re not just building software. We’re helping public agencies move faster, serve their residents better, and strengthen the communities they’re responsible for. That’s the heart of what we do. This is public procurement with purpose and tech for good. A sincere thank-you to our partners for joining us, and to every team member from eight different countries, no less to be part of the conversation. I’m excited to see what this remarkable group will deliver together in 2026.

This month, America turned 250. We celebrated our freedoms and ideals — but behind every ideal stands something tangible: infrastructure. None of it built itself. The power plants, refineries, and ports that made us a world power were raised by welders, pipefitters, electricians, and operators. Now we need that workforce again — by one estimate, the U.S. will need 140,000 more skilled craft professionals by 2030 to build the infrastructure for AI alone. These aren't fallback jobs. They're careers where Americans can earn a good living, support a family, and build rare skill where craftsmanship meets advanced technology. At Bechtel Corporation, 128 years have taught us the same lesson again and again: the surest way to build the future is to invest in the people who will build it. That's why we're proud to be a builder of builders. I explore that idea in Fortune today. If we invest in people the way past generations invested in us, the next chapter of American progress won't just be dreamed. It will be built. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/eeT4A3_j
