CEOs tell me all the time, “If I just had a few more hours in the day, I’d get everything done.” No, you wouldn’t. You don’t need more time. You need more focus. Every CEO on the planet gets the same 24 hours. The difference isn’t the clock. It’s the clarity. What you actually need is: Fewer distractions. Clearer priorities. And the discipline to say no to everything that doesn’t move the needle. Most CEOs don’t fail because of a lack of effort. They fail from divided attention. The highest performers I coach aren’t trying to win by doing more. They win by doing what matters: the activities that drive revenue, build people, and move the business forward. Focus isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the most underrated superpower a CEO has. #MakeBIGHappen

I’m 5'4”. No pedigree. No connections. Just grit and heart. And somehow, that was enough. When you grow up in a small mining town like Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, you don’t automatically see BIG opportunities. You see hard work. You see uncertainty. You see people doing the best they can with what they’ve got. At 17, when my dad declared bankruptcy, it forced me to grow up fast. It also taught me something I didn’t understand until years later: You don’t need a perfect situation to create a powerful outcome. What you do need is the courage to start. The willingness to ask for help. And the discipline to keep showing up long after the excitement wears off. The world rewards consistency more than confidence. It rewards grit more than gifts. It rewards heart more than height. So if you’re looking at your circumstances and thinking you’re at a disadvantage…think again. If I could make BIG happen from where I started, trust me, you can too. #MakeBIGHappen

"I found you on reddit" - A private equity operating partner who came inbound to Buried Wins website for their portcos! 7 months ago a friend texted me about a reddit post they saw, "Struggling with win-loss analysis - how do you handle it?" Instead of responding, I emailed and called 5 different clients and asked them for a favor. I said that I heard Reddit is great for AEO, if you could respond to this post with your genuine feedback on Buried Wins I'd appreciate it. This past Thursday, I hosted a call with a large PE firm interested in services for their portfolio companies. She came inbound from to our website and signup form. When I asked how she found us, she said Reddit! My takeaway is that impact isn't immediate in marketing. Content, podcasts, going above and beyond for customers, asking for reviews. Brand awareness compounds if you stick with it and survive long enough to reap the rewards.

🐙 Recipe for B2B win-loss programs: Mix 15% Research Prep, 40% Recruitment, 15% Interviews, and 30% Analysis. 🔪 Research Prep: It starts with internal interviews to understand how Sales, Product, and Marketing leadership see their world. What are the problems? Where are the opportunities? At Buried Wins, this step grounds the research in the context of your business, so the findings don’t just float in a vacuum. 🛒 Recruitment: I was shocked by the enormous amount of time I’ve spent and the money we invest into recruiting. But interviews are the fuel for useful insights for our clients. Whether it’s closed-lost deals that went dark or your biggest wins, getting those conversations lined up takes effort, but it’s non-negotiable. This is the unsexy, absolutely critical foundation of good research. 🍳 Interviews: Great question guides are half the battle. I love the quote: “A problem well-defined is a problem half solved.” The other half? Listening for revenue opportunities or red flags and digging in deep. 🔎 It’s not just about asking questions, it’s about reading between the lines, following the thread, and uncovering the “why” behind every answer. 🍽️ Analysis: It’s not just about finding insights, it’s about telling a story that drives action. A poorly told story will turn million-dollar opportunities into reports that never see the light of day. Building a great win-loss program is more than sending out an email and hopping on a call. But you would not believe the impact you can have in aligning an organization and winning more deals when you do it well. --- Want to steal this recipe for your internal teams? Most accounting firms don’t have a workflow problem. They have a visibility problem. Every week, partners and ops leaders ask the same three questions: Who’s overloaded? Who’s got room? Where do we need to shift work? I hear the phrase “capacity planning” from accountants and firms almost every day, on calls, at conferences, and during their evaluation of practice management tools. Capacity planning is a huge sticking point for firms to manage seasonal workloads, whether it's end of month or tax season. But the tools firms rely on — spreadsheets, dashboards, even the “capacity views” bolted onto other platforms — only show slices of reality. Forecasts without context. Hours without ownership. Signals without action. Those gaps costs firms more than time. They costs predictability, morale, and margin, especially when capacity looks different to different roles. Partners & Managers: Need to see a high-level view of how work is spread across your team. They need functionality that easily reassigns work if you see someone is over capacity. Staff: Need to know exactly what’s on your plate, without overwhelming back and forth. These are the team members who reap the benefits of easy reassignment when overload is alleviated and predictability is possible. Clients: As a firm, you need to deliver uniform and predictable experiences for every client. And any time you can make something uniform, you and the client win, and that uniformity starts with managing workload efficiently and setting clear expectations. This is why I’m excited about what our team just released. Canopy's new Capacity Planning brings the real picture into view — and gives firms a way to rebalance work in seconds. Side-by-side workload Real-time hours Drag-and-drop staffing One move updates the assignee, the hours, and the budget instantly And it all lives inside Workflow — the place your team already works If you’ve ever found yourself saying “capacity planning” and wishing there was an easier, more intuitive way to find a rhythm at work, you should check this out. I recorded a short walkthrough of how it works (below).

How many days a year does your leadership team spend writing board papers? Our research puts it at over 100 days a year on average. And more time doesn't necessarily mean better papers. After more than 20 years working with boards, we know what makes a great board paper and how much the quality of board papers shapes the quality of board discussions. Our Report Writer is built on that knowledge. Your executives get from first draft to final paper in hours, not days. Your governance team gets pain free board-ready reports, every time. And your board get more strategic, insightful board materials. If you want to see how it works, watch the video below and get in touch here https://lnkd.in/eRjhR4FD

If you're staring down a CFO vacancy, the math's not great. On average, it takes 150 days to hire a full-time one, from defining the role and writing the job description to identifying, coordinating, evaluating, and negotiating with candidates. That’s months of deal delays, incomplete financials, or missed value-creation windows. Interim support bridges the gap before the gap costs you. Here’s the process we use at BluWave, LP to get 2–3 PE-grade interim CFOs on your desk within 24 hours. https://lnkd.in/gRv6TN6y

Totdat we verder praatten.

Logisch. Het bleef even stil.

Nope. ➡️ Wie funktioniert das Steuersystem? ➡️ Was sind Finanzstrategien?

Germany has a reputation for being a high-tax country. But when it comes to real estate, the picture can look quite different — especially for foreign investors. Get the structure right, and rental income from German real estate can be taxed at around 16%. That’s surprisingly competitive by European standards. Just look at the comparison: 👉 Luxembourg, often seen as a tax-friendly country: around 29%. 👉 Liechtenstein: around 10%. So when it comes to real estate income, Germany is actually much closer to Liechtenstein than to Luxembourg. Of course, you don’t automatically get to that 16%. It depends on how the investment is structured, which entity holds the property and how the investment is set up. And that’s really the key point. Germany may be a high-tax country in general. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a high-tax country for every type of investment. For international real estate investors, the structure can make a huge difference. So before writing Germany off as a high-tax location, it may be worth taking a closer look. Sometimes, Germany is more tax-attractive than its reputation suggests.

If the answer to “where’s that process?” is “it’s in my head”, you’re the bottleneck. The more knowledge that lives with one person, the slower everything moves. Document it. Systemize it. Give your team access to the playbook. Because if your business depends on you to keep moving, it’s not built to scale: it’s built to stall. Most leaders want to jump straight into automating everything, but it's the wrong approach, and I'll tell you why. If you can’t clearly explain how a process works step-by-step, you don't know what you are automating yet. Instead, start with your biggest workflow pain points. Design them. Test them. Automate them. Once those work, build on top. Design first. Automate second. Alane Boyd and I talk through why this matters on our Automate Your Agency episode: Find out what AI and Agents can't fix! Ofgem’s ambition to make energy the UK’s leading sector for customer service sets a high bar, and a clear challenge, for suppliers. The organisations that come out ahead will be those investing early in the capabilities that truly put customers at the centre. We’ve previously explored what this shift really demands of the industry. It’s clear that the path to five-star service relies on more than meeting today’s expectations, requiring a rethink of how customers are supported, engaged, and understood. This year’s tariffs have thrown many Canadian businesses into a state of uncertainty, and we’ve watched leaders work tirelessly to adjust pricing and reshape their supply chain in real time. What we're seeing, though, is that these shifts can create new U.S. state tax nexus that can lead to unexpected sales, use, or income tax obligations. BDO in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia and elsewhere globally, have been working closely with CFOs to map these changes and build practical strategies that protect margins and keep compliance onside. Too many companies are leaving real risk on the table by not doing this. If your cross-border model has shifted, it’s not too late to have your U.S. state tax exposure reassessed before surprises become costly. AI legal tools are everywhere right now. Every week a new one pops up in LinkedIn. Vibecoded. Or legit. “Have you seen this legal AI?” “Have you tried this AI tool?” And to be fair, many of them seem impressive. But after working in privacy and compliance for quite some time, I’ve noticed something. Compliance was never really about generating text faster. Good compliance means understanding context. Connecting decisions. Knowing when something actually works in your daily job. AI can do the heavy lifting. But someone still needs to shape the reasoning. That’s usually the moment many privacy and AI counsels start looking for something different. And sometimes… they find us 😜 That’s when privacy & AI compliance suddenly starts to feel… pretty awesome.

Some teams are finishing compliance work before the day even starts. I walked in at 8, ready to start the day. Marianne had already finished work most privacy teams would spread over days. And the interesting part? She wasn’t rushing. She was just… ahead. And enjoying it. There’s something slightly unusual about someone opening a compliance platform like it’s their favorite app. But once you understand what’s changing underneath, it makes sense. Less admin. Less starting from scratch. More actual thinking. That’s the shift. And it’s hard to ignore once you’ve seen it.
