You know, sometimes my team just says it better than me 🤷🏻. If you're building software, you're probably doing R&D. But most SaaS founders think the R&D tax credit is for biotech labs and manufacturing companies. That's just wrong. And it's costing you money. Shout out to Amanda Brower, CPA, Hiline's Head of Customer Success, for this awesome video that walks you through everything you need to know about the R&D tax credit and the qualifications. The short version of common qualifying activities for SaaS companies: ↪ Building new product features or functionality ↪ Integrating third-party APIs or systems ↪ Improving performance or scalability ↪Developing algorithms or data models ↪Creating automation or workflow solutions Stop leaving money on the table. If you're building, you probably qualify. Hit me or Amanda up if you still have questions! https://lnkd.in/eZpDkFJP

Trade agreements with enforceable workers’ rights requirements are trending in the Trump Administration's foreign policy. First the USMCA in our backyard, and now agreements with countries in China’s. On Sunday, the White House announced reciprocal trade agreements with Cambodia and Malaysia and frameworks for potentially similar agreements with Thailand and Vietnam. The labor requirements are novel. There's more in my article ( 👇 ), but here are some key labor changes on the horizon in Cambodia and Malaysia. Companies with operations or supply chains in these countries should prepare. ➡️Cambodia and Malaysia must protect internationally recognized labor rights and ban the import of goods produced by forced labor. Several rights are spelled out in detail. ➡️Notably, for example, Cambodia must engage in apparently ILO-style “tripartite” consultations -- with government, employer and worker representatives -- to strengthen union rights. ➡️The Malaysia agreement focuses heavily on labor protections for migrant workers, such as requiring Malaysia to prohibit employers from charging those workers recruitment fees and increasing transparency around migrant worker quota systems. ➡️The enforcement provisions in both agreements are novel. If the United States considers that these countries have not complied with their new labor commitments, it may take action “in accordance with applicable domestic law.” This could permit the United States to unilaterally impose tariffs. https://lnkd.in/eShMBR_V

In our final private equity sector brief of 2025, we take a closer look at the infrastructure engineering market, a sector projected to exceed $32 billion by 2029 and poised for continued resilience as investment accelerates across utilities, water systems, highways, and other critical assets. Despite a handful of established platforms, the industry remains highly fragmented and locally driven, creating meaningful opportunities to bring specialist firms together and build diversified, scalable platforms. If you’d like to dive deeper, you can download the full report in the link below. And if you’re exploring an opportunity in this space, or elsewhere in the built environment, I’d be glad to connect to share helpful insights. https://lnkd.in/etWgymdD

Corporate layoffs are everywhere, and they’re not slowing down. I read an article today in The Washington Post that said U.S. employers have already laid off 1.1 million people in 2025. This is the most since the pandemic recession. This is crazy. And these cuts aren’t happening at struggling startups. They’re happening at the biggest, most respected employers in America. In the last three years: Amazon — 51,000 layoffs UPS — 48,000 layoffs Microsoft — 26,000 layoffs Intel — 24,000 layoffs Meta — 21,000 These are the companies that once represented stability. The “safe jobs” that generations built careers around. That version of work really doesn’t exist anymore. The idea of staying 20 years at one company and retiring with a pension and a gold watch is gone. Corporate loyalty is at an all-time low, and for good reason. Even years after the pandemic, boardrooms are still blaming “over-hiring” as the reason for mass layoffs. But let’s be honest... that excuse expired a long time ago. Today’s layoffs are being driven by: 💻 AI and automation replacing human roles 📈 Corporate obsession with efficiency 💰 Private equity and shareholder pressure When profit margins are the priority, people become expendable. So what do you do when the traditional definition of “career stability” disappears? You build your own. Business ownership is freedom. It’s the ability to decide your future instead of waiting for someone else’s decision to land in your inbox. And while starting from scratch can feel daunting, franchising has become the safest path to business ownership. A model that combines independence with proven systems, training, and support. Because the truth is, freedom isn’t found in corporate titles anymore. It’s found in ownership. The future belongs to the builders. #businessownership #franchiseownership #buyafranchise #futureofwork #franchisesidekick

The #1 reason people say "no" to Franchise Sidekick isn't what you think. Almost 90% of the people we meet with say no to us. And we’re completely OK with that. Starting a franchise is a big deal. We want our “yeses” to be firm. But when they say no? We want to know why. We have a system for capturing those responses. The #1 reason? “Change of circumstances." Do you know what that really means - I do. It's not about circumstances. It's about their fear. [And I get it!] People aren't afraid of franchising itself. It's obviously a model that works. They're afraid of: ➜ Leaving their stable paycheck ➜ What their family might think ➜ Making the wrong choice ➜ Failing publicly ➜ The unknown But here's the thing ... The most successful franchise owners had those exact same fears. The difference? They didn't let assumptions drive their decisions. When someone tells me they're not ready, we don't push. Instead, we ask questions: ➜ What specific information would help you? ➜ Which fears are based on facts? ➜ What timeline feels right for you? ➜ What's the worst-case scenario? ➜ What's the best-case scenario? We know that ... Sometimes it's NOT the right time. Sometimes the fear IS justified. Sometimes waiting IS the answer. Our job isn't to eliminate fear. [That's impossible.] Our job is to help people make decisions based on facts. And if that means waiting? That's okay. Because the right decision at the wrong time is still the wrong decision. 📌 What's the #1 reason people say "no" in your industry? = I’m Ryan Zink. From 21 May 2026, the new EU rules on cross border waste shipments tighten the approach to waste shipments for disposal, including shipments within the EU. In practice, disposal across borders should only be authorised in limited cases. The policy direction is that disposal should happen as close as possible to where the waste is generated, and only when realistic alternatives are not available. This matters for businesses that rely on cross border disposal routes because they are cheaper, faster, or simply there are free capacities. If the route becomes harder to approve, the impact is immediate. Delays, re planning, short term storage, and higher costs when you need to find another outlet.

From 21 May 2027, companies exporting waste from the EU will need to be able to show that the receiving facility outside the EU manages the waste in an environmentally sound way. This is not a paper exercise. The proof is expected to come from an independent third party audit. The notifier commissions the audit, and the auditor must be properly authorised and qualified. The audit must also be recent, not older than two years before the export. There is a commercial twist too. Audit results should be made available to other notifiers who want to use the same facility, on fair commercial terms. Audits are also expected to be reported so that the Commission can maintain a register of audited facilities. International agreements may eventually remove the audit need for certain countries, but you cannot plan on that today. Who should care: any business that exports waste outside the EU, whether directly or through a broker, trader, or logistics partner. If your outlet is a non EU facility, this will affect your timelines, contracting, and supplier selection. It is high time to actively address with the authorities the qualification requirements and authorizations of the auditors so that they can begin conducting audits as soon as possible. Otherwise, from 21 May 2027, you may be forced to immediately terminate cooperation with your customer due to the missing audit.

Sonntagabend E-Mails checken. 60, 70, 80 Stunden pro Woche. Das ist ein echtes Führungsproblem. Was Sie im Workshop lernen: WER führt: Wie Sie eine zweite Führungsebene aufbauen. Von 20 Einzelgesprächen am Tag auf 3 bis 4 Teamleiter-Gespräche pro Woche. Das alleine gibt Ihnen 10 bis 20 Stunden zurück. WAS wissen die: Wie Sie Ihr Wissen systematisieren.

The power of fan moments has never been stronger. In sport, emotion has always been the starting point. What's changing is how data and Al help us understand those moments and turn them into more meaningful, more personal experiences. That's where the real shift is happening. At Cannes this week, one conversation keeps surfacing: the growing tension between AI and trust. There’s tremendous excitement about AI. In fact, nearly 80% of people are looking to AI for greater efficiency and productivity. Yet at the same time, more than 90% are fact-checking AI-generated information, and fewer than half are comfortable sharing their data. That’s the AI trust paradox: people want the benefits of AI, but they are still deciding whether they can trust it. I’ve shared a few reflections in the video below. My key takeaway: trust can’t be an afterthought. The organisations that create the most value from AI will be those that build trust in from the start—through transparency, governance, security and responsible use of data. Technology may drive the transformation, but trust will determine how far and how fast we can go. EY Studio+ #CannesLions2026 #AI #Trust #ResponsibleAI #Data

Your Australian small business might not actually be "small" under the Fair Work Act - and that oversight could cost you. Did you know that the employees of overseas entities must, in certain circumstances, be included in the employee headcount calculation when determining whether an employer is a "small business employer" under the 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘈𝘤𝘵 2009. This is a really important issue because being a "small business employer" is relevant to, for example: 1️⃣ Whether the employer is exempt from paying redundancy pay under the FW Act; 2️⃣ The length of the minimum period of employment that must occur before an employee becomes a person protected from unfair dismissal (ie. 6 months ordinarily, but 12 months for a small business employer); or 3️⃣ Whether the Small Business Fair Dismissal Code applies to a dismissal. Section 23 of the 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘈𝘤𝘵 2009 - specifically sub-section (3) - provides that the headcount of employees for the purposes of determining whether a business is a “small business employer” is to include employees of “associated entities” of the employing entity. An “associated entity” has the meaning given to it by s. 50AAA of the 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘈𝘤𝘵 2001. If an overseas entity meets the definition of an “associated entity”, then its headcount of employees is to be included: 𝘓𝘢𝘶 𝘷 𝘕𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦𝘯 (𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵) 𝘑 𝘈 𝘗𝘵𝘺 𝘓𝘵𝘥 [2016] FWC 7490 at [17] per Booth DP. Picture this: An Australian company with 12 employees thinks they're covered by the Small Business Fair Dismissal Code. But their parent company in Singapore has 40 employees. Suddenly, they're not a small business anymore and an unfair dismissal claim just got a lot more complicated. Now, what is an “associated entity” in a particular case can sometimes be very clear, sometimes not so much. It nonetheless requires a careful legal analysis of the facts of the particular case.
