Varje linje, varje order, varje förändring – live.

THE ABYSS OF KAROSHI I used to be the guy who clocked 100 hours of overtime a month. Not because I was told to. Because everyone around me did, and leaving before them felt like a confession of weakness. That's the part that doesn't make it into the headlines. A young woman at Japan's top advertising firm took her own life after clocking over 100 hours of overtime in a month. When that story broke, I didn't feel outrage. I felt recognition. I was at the Ministry of Finance — "elite of the elite," as they say — and my numbers looked the same. The difference between her story and mine had nothing to do with character or resilience. It was just luck, probably. Here's the structure nobody talks about. Japanese companies hire generalists and promise lifetime employment. They can't fire you. So when demand drops, they don't reduce headcount — they squeeze hours. Overtime becomes the adjustment valve. The government eventually added real penalties for this. Companies responded by telling employees to stop recording their hours. Problem solved. Statistically. I grew up in Hokkaido — not an island. But Japan is small, and the walls are real. Evolutionary psychologists note that psychopathy rates in island nations run below 1%, versus 4% in continental ones. The deviant gets noticed. The deviant gets removed. The person who leaves the office first isn't just tired. They're marking themselves. I'm not clean on this. Neither are you. Every convenience we take for granted — the package that arrives overnight, the restaurant that stays open late — may run on someone's unpaid hours. We are all downstream of this system. We call it a problem. We work on it. But in a market where our competitors run on unpaid ghost hours, "doing it right" is sometimes a competitive disadvantage. I have no elegant conclusion to offer here. Just this: There are roughly 150 official deaths from overwork — Karoshi — reported in Japan every year. Official. The abyss is still open. And most of us, at some point, have stood a little too close to the edge — and called it dedication. #Karoshi #WorkLifeBalance #FutureOfWork

WHAT LEONARDO SAW I have a confession: I very often quote famous people to sound smarter than I am. It's a bad habit, and LinkedIn has made it worse. With that out of the way — There is a quote widely attributed to Hemingway in Japan: "When you can't catch fish, think of it as time granted to contemplate life." No one can actually prove he said it. I've decided I don't care. Standing by a river in Hokkaido with an empty bucket and a bruised ego, a man needs whatever psychological defense he can find. The trouble is, while I was busy pretending to contemplate life, I was mostly contemplating whether to open the snacks I'd brought. Leonardo da Vinci once stood by a river and saw something else entirely. He saw vortices. The swirling, complex patterns of fluid in motion. From those patterns, he developed theories about how heart valves open and close — driven not by muscle, but by the subtle geometry of blood flow. Scientists didn't confirm this until centuries later. I saw no fish. Einstein claimed that genius is 1% talent and 99% hard work. I suspect he was being generous. He probably couldn't fathom how a person could stare at a vortex for an hour and think only about sandwiches. The gap between genius and the rest of us is, I've concluded, a blind spot for both parties. We can't see our own shallowness. They can't imagine it. Leonardo wrote: "Human subtlety will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple, or more direct than does nature — because in her inventions, nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous." Wood has knots, burls, erratic grain — what the market sometimes calls defects. I call them a record. The history of a tree's argument with wind and time, compressed into timber. Nature doesn't make mistakes. She just has a longer timeline than our quarterly reports. I still can't catch fish. But the river might be trying to tell me something. I'm just not Leonardo enough to hear it yet. #Philosophy #Curiosity #Japan #ShungoIjima

When a yaw bearing sliding surface is worn, most operators assume replacement is the only sensible option. Often, it isn't. Replacing the component is a proven solution. But it's also by far the most extensive and expensive one. It often means: → Heavy logistics → Crane mobilisation → Large service crews → Long lead times → Extended turbine downtime In many cases, the damage is limited to the sliding surface itself. Instead of replacing major components, the sliding surface can be restored through precision on-site machining, the worn parts (such as spring packs or brake pads, depending on the turbine platform) can be replaced, followed by routine maintenance. The goal isn't simply to get the turbine running again. It's to eliminate the root cause of the wear and restore the component for continued operation. One recent refurbishment of ours was completed in 4 days. The total cost was less than 10% of a replacement, while avoiding cranes, heavy transport and months of planning. Replacement will always have its place. But before replacing major components, it's worth asking one simple question: Is replacement actually necessary? Sometimes, refurbishment is the better answer.

WindEnergy Hamburg is on the calendar. 22-25 September, and I'm looking forward to it. One question I get from engineering teams, almost every time: can on-site CNC machining actually deliver the tolerances and documentation needed to get a repair approved? It's the right question. And the answer is yes - but you have to see the documentation to believe it. We deliver full before/after measurement reports for every job: tolerances, surface analysis, process protocol. Our technicians work up-tower with portable CNC equipment that hits the same specs as a production facility. We work alongside engineering teams at Vestas, Siemens, and others on repair cases where documentation requirements are strict. The gap between "field repair" and "approved repair" is usually smaller than people expect - once they see the actual process and output. If you're in Hamburg and curious what on-site repair documentation actually looks like, bring your toughest approval case. Happy to walk through a real report. You'll find us at our own stand in the Danish Pavilion, Stand B1.EG.508 - and CNC Onsite is listed as its own exhibitor in the directory, so we're easy to find. See you in Hamburg. 🫵

3 out of 10 (or less) robotics pilots work. If you’re in ops, that’s bad. If you're a robotics vendor, that's bad. Time’s gone. Money’s gone. People remember. And next time you try, they’re thinking “nah, not again.” We partner closely to set them up so the first one works. We help enterprises pick the right parts, pick the right partners, handle the change. Those early wins build momentum and energy - a flywheel effect. And people are up for the next one.

Why do robots often wobble around as they move? It turns out the two wheel differential drive is very popular, but it’s extremely limited in how it moves… leading to a wobbling motion plan that is not very trustworthy. Proxie was intentionally designed to move naturally around you. Our Glide 360 drive architecture uses four pivoting wheels to allow for incredibly precise and natural motion, working seamlessly with your staff and other robots.

Scanning the latest industry news shows how our customers and partners across the aggregates, cement, and construction materials sectors are moving fast toward a future defined by innovation and sustainability - navigating challenges for sure - but putting themselves in the driver’s seat to actively shape progress. For example, the commitment to a greener future is moving from just a lofty ambition to reality. 🌱 My previous employer, Heidelberg Materials has begun delivering evoZero, the world’s first carbon-captured cement, across Europe – an incredible milestone for our industry. Their pioneering work in serial 3D-printed residential construction using sustainable materials further shows how innovation can redefine what’s possible. Holcim UK is also raising the bar with next-generation low-carbon, high-performance road surfacing. And we’re seeing great collaboration around the circular economy, such as Cemex’s partnership with The Pallet LOOP. This vital shift toward sustainability depends on compliance and digital transparency are all areas where CheckProof’s platform supports teams in realising heavy ambition. ⚙️ There’s also massive efficiency gains driven by strategic investment and digital adoption. Holcim UK’s £4 million conveyor system at Torr Works is a great example, an awe-inspiring site, which we recently had the opportunity to visit shows the focus on both productivity and sustainability isn’t mutually exclusive. 💡 This shift toward smarter, more connected operations is exactly why I founded CheckProof - to give teams the digital tools that make work safer, more efficient, and more sustainable, every single day. A big shoutout to the magazines whose stellar reporting keeps all of us in touch with the latest industry progress – the highlights above all come from Aggregates Business Magazine, Pit & Quarry magazine, Rock Products and Agg-Net.com Picture from HeidelbergMaterials. #OperationalExcellence #Sustainability #DigitalTransformation #Aggregates #Cement #MaintenanceManagement #ConstructionMaterials #CheckProof #CheckProofCEO

Cemex has a proud history of serving the UK construction industry, and today I was honored to visit the people who make it happen. During my visit to our UK Head Office, Tilbury, and Rugby Cement Plant, I had the opportunity to see the breadth of our business in the country. From the teams who support our customers and coordinate our operations, to the facilities that help keep essential building materials moving, Cemex UK plays an important role in supporting construction across the country. These visits are also an opportunity to listen. I was encouraged by the energy of our colleagues, their focus on the changes underway across Cemex, and their commitment to strengthening how we operate in a dynamic market. Across every part of our business, our priorities remain clear: Health and Safety, operational discipline, customer focus, and continuous improvement. These fundamentals are essential to building a stronger, more efficient, and more resilient Cemex. Thank you to our CEMEX UK team for the warm welcome.
- CemexSince 25 Jun 2026
Today Cemex launched its updated Code of Ethics and Business Conduct. How we do business matters. Our Code helps guide the decisions we make every day, from how we work with customers and suppliers to how we meet our responsibilities to our people, our communities, and all our stakeholders. The Code is grounded in our values and in the standards we expect across Cemex: acting with integrity, protecting Health and Safety, respecting the law, and doing what is right even when the situation is complex. It is organized around three clear commitments: we adhere, we report, we inspire. We adhere by following the rules and applying our standards consistently. We report by speaking up when something is not right, knowing that Cemex protects those who raise concerns in good faith. We inspire by leading through our actions and setting the example for others. A strong culture of integrity is built through daily decisions. It depends on each of us acting with accountability, transparency, and respect in every part of our business. Thank you to our teams around the world for continuing to uphold the values and standards that define Cemex.

Was mich dabei antreibt?

I keep pushing the team to grow faster every month… Scared that we’re too slow! I guess we’re not too bad after all 🤷♂️😄 Because BRAINR got recognized as the fastest-growing startup in Portugal 🇵🇹 and #24 in Southern Europe, according to Sifted, in a ranking built on real sales growth 📈 What makes this recognition even more meaningful is the industry we serve. Food manufacturing couldn’t be more software-unfriendly 😅, and food manufacturing software couldn’t be more unsexy (i guess that’s changing though 😎). And yet, here we are… finding our own way forward. A big-hearted thank you to our team, customers and partners for being part of this journey 🚀 #Sifted100 #FoodTech #Manufacturing #Portugal

For years I watched food factories try to run the shopfloor on their ERP. I did it myself at Grupo Lusiaves. And it works... Until the factory becomes too complex to run that way. More products, more customers, more requirements. More sites. And these are all good "problems" to have... But eventually, production, quality, warehouse operations and execution start moving faster than the information systems designed to support them. The consequences rarely appear overnight. They show up later as operational friction, lost visibility, slower decisions, spreadsheet dependency and growing complexity. The manufacturers that scale best make a different choice: 𝗘𝗥𝗣 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗢𝗦 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. On 25 June at 14:00 WEST, I'll join Arnout Vincent (delaware BeLux) to discuss why leading food manufacturers are separating ERP from operational execution. If you work in meat or poultry processing, I believe you'll find this discussion valuable. https://lnkd.in/ezTr_kft
