Measuring pulse velocity on a drilled core normally starts with preparing the core. You grind both ends flat and parallel so the transducers couple properly, which is slow work, and on a short core you can grind away the very material you wanted to test. The A1220 Monolith UPVT measures velocity on the cylindrical surface of the core instead. With 250kHz dry-point-contact transducers you read straight off the curved side, with no end grinding and no couplant, on samples down to 50 by 50 by 50 mm. For a materials testing lab this means you can characterise a core in minutes and check it before crush testing, without consuming or damaging the sample. The same method works on concrete cores and on rock cores. This is the capability I am most proud of in the instrument, because it is genuinely hard to do on the common pulse-velocity meters. The measurement setup and the full details are on the product page: https://lnkd.in/eKwj5QFW

Ultrasonic velocity is a fast, non-destructive input to rock characterisation. On a rock core you can measure P-wave and S-wave velocity and use the results to support estimates of unconfined compressive strength and elastic modulus, alongside your standard laboratory tests. Most velocity setups in rock-mechanics labs are large, fixed and built around couplant. The A1220 Monolith UPVT is portable, uses dry-point-contact transducers and measures on the cylindrical surface of the core without any preparation. It also takes swappable transducers from 20 kHz to 250 KHz, so you can match the frequency to the rock type and the sample size. I want to be straight about one limit. Velocity is a sound input to strength and characterisation, but it is not a dependable predictor of drillability or penetration rate, where the published evidence is genuinely mixed. Treat it as one measurement among several, not as a drillability oracle. Request your technical sheet covering the rock application, the transducer range and the standards involved. Comment the word ROCK below and I will send it over.

"They aren't the first thing you think of, but better anti-fatigue mats contribute to higher quality of life for employees." We're filming a case study today with TITANS of CNC MACHINING, and a CNC Machinist named Drae dropped this line. He nailed it, too. Anti-fatigue mats are usually an afterthought. They're the last thing to be added to a facility and selected purely on lowest price. Titans of CNC was sick of using "any old mat." They found AcroMat, trialed our 100-1 Series mat alongside several competitor mats, gathered feedback from their team members (a vital step in the process), noted our lifetime warranty, and selected AcroMat. Today, they invited us in talk about it. Video coming soon!⏲️🔜 Drae isn't alone in his thoughts either. According to a Cintas survey of 2,500+ U.S. workers: 👉91% would rather work for a company that provides "premium" quality anti-fatigue mats over one that doesn't. 👉93% of employees believe companies that provide anti-fatigue mats care more about their health than those that don't. 👉93% would prefer to stand on an anti-fatigue mat compared to a hard floor if they work on their feet long hours. 👉94% believe the health and comfort of employees who work on their feet for long hours should be a top priority for employers. The safety benefits of high-quality ergo mats are clear. Less talked about but equally as important is how they make your people *feel*. #workplacesafety #continuousimprovement
- AcroMatRecorded 30 Sept 2026
Two different anti-fatigue mat approaches, two VERY different outcomes. ➡️Left photo, three clear safety hazards: ⛔1. Too small and the wrong shape Notice how the operator near the top-left isn't even standing on the mat? The anti-fatigue mat is too small and the wrong shape. As a result, the operators is experiencing exactly zero of the intended benefits. Worse, the edge-standing and exposed concrete contributes to MSD injury risks. ⛔2. Gaps and overlapping borders Piecing mats together to try and fill complex areas leads to gaps and overlapping borders. Both are dangerous and unnecessary trip hazards. ⛔3. Waterfall design This is little talked about, but a huge problem with mat design today. Many mats are made using the waterfall design, where a vinyl surface is draped over an anti-fatigue pad, creating a waterfall slope. This design significantly reduces the surface area of the cushion your people need. Notice how 2-3 in. around each mat is completely flat? This is because the anti-fatigue pad doesn't reach the edge of the mat. They bough a 2 ft. wide by 15 ft. long mat, but they're only getting 1 1/2 ft. of cushion. ➡️Right photo, custom AcroMat anti-fatigue mat: ✅One-piece design ✅Fits entire work area like a glove ✅Consistent cushion and traction; no gaps or trip hazards ✅Cut-and-bond design eliminates hazards caused by waterfall -- Standard-size anti-fatigue mats can work well in the right situation. But forcing them into complex layouts will often contribute to even more safety issues than the ones you're trying to solve.

Ford Motor Company decided to make the Kuga their first car line with a product carbon footprint calculated 100% on primary supplier data. And it is a great example of where the automotive industry is heading. For a vehicle like the Ford Kuga, 70 to 90% of the carbon footprint happens before the car even reaches the assembly line. That is the upstream supply chain. Every material sourced, every component produced, every delivery to the factory. By the time Ford puts the car together, the vast majority of the environmental impact has already occurred. So if you are an OEM with a net zero commitment and you want to actually manage your impact, not just measure it at a high level, you need granular, bottom-up primary data from your suppliers. That is exactly what Ford is doing here. We have been partners with Ford for years, first on compliance, then on sustainability. So when they came to us with this initiative, it was kind of a natural next step. I think what made it particularly attractive for the suppliers is that our solution, iPoint Product Sustainability Core, is Catena-X certified. That means the PCF calculation a supplier does with our tool is OEM agnostic. You calculate once, and you can provide that footprint in a standardized way to any OEM out there. The solution itself does not require LCA expertise. It is not an expert tool. It is a standard SaaS solution, no IT implementation needed, works out of the box with a standardized automotive model already built in. And as part of this partnership with Ford, we provide it free of charge to participating Ford suppliers for six months. Now, some suppliers ask us: do we really need to act now? Can we not just wait and see? Let's be honest, I understand the hesitation. Suppliers are busy, they have a lot on their plate. But we have seen this pattern before in the industry. These things start as voluntary asks and very quickly become compulsory. At that point, if you cannot provide this data, you are at risk of no longer being considered as a supplier. It becomes a minimum requirement. And you are on the hook for the accuracy of that data. Which is exactly why using a Catena-X certified, standardized methodology matters. You can rest assured the numbers you provide are calculated correctly. Ford is clearly just getting started with the Kuga. They have articulated this as the beginning, and we are hearing from other OEMs that they are heading in the same direction with their own initiatives. The industry is moving. The question for suppliers is not if this becomes the standard, but when.
- Assent (formerly IPOINT)Since 23 Apr 2026
Ford Motor Company just announced they are collecting product carbon footprint data from their supply chain for the Ford Kuga. This is a systematic approach to get primary data for a vehicle with several thousand parts and components. Every OEM talks about decarbonization. But to actually decarbonize, you need to understand what component contributes how much impact to the overall vehicle PCF. And you can only understand that with primary data from your supply chain, not with industry averages. Ford is taking exactly this approach. They selected a specific vehicle and are now asking suppliers to provide product carbon footprints based on actual data. The goal is full transparency on where the emissions sit, so they can work collaboratively with the supply chain on decarbonization. A car has 20,000+ parts and components to be assessed. You cannot do that in one step. So Ford is slicing the elephant in pieces. There is a first phase of supplier requests happening now, and more phases will follow through the end of this year and into next year to complete the picture. Ford has been active in Catena-X for quite a while, including a steering role in the Catena-X Sustainability Committee. André Kremer from Ford is very active there. This pre-competitive activity in the Catena-X association now materializes also in the product carbon footprint use case. In the Catena-X PCF use case, as an automotive supplier being required to provide a PCF you can encounter two basic scenarios : 1. You already have calculated a product carbon footprint. Then the task is to connect technically via the Catena-X ecosystem to share this PCF dataset. Maybe you are already connected because you have started to share data in another use case, for example certificate management or demand and capacity management. Then the general connection with the data space is already done. The questions in this scenario are: Did I calculate my PCF already according to the Catena-X rulebook? And do I have a PCF Exchange Application in place? 2. You have never calculated a product carbon footprint. You have not been onboarded to any Catena-X use case. Then it is two topics: PCF calculation, and PCF sharing it with your customer. Ford and IPOINT have been especially partnering for that second scenario. Our Product Sustainability Core Solution provides a dedicated setup to fully enable small and medium-sized suppliers with low and medium complex products to calculate PCFs easy and fast. IPOINT Product Sustainability is a Catena-X certified PCF calculation application. If you are a Ford Kuga supplier and have received or will receive this request: the technical and service infrastructure exists. The PCF calculation solutions exist. The sharing mechanism within a trusted data space exists. Ready to scale PCF together.

One thousandth of a millimetre sounds harmless. Like something you’d ignore. Until your twin-screw airend starts vibrating like a washing machine on spin cycle. Bearings run hot, energy bills spike — and suddenly, your finance team knows your name a little too well. That’s why we obsess over the profile. We grind. We measure. We blue-check. We measure again. All to keep those flanks hugging the CAD curve your engineer drew, as close as physics (and reality) allow. 0.000 mm? Dreamland. ±3 µm? That’s more bearable. But sometimes the CAD isn’t as precise as expected. Bad math, stacked tolerances, thermal expansion nobody accounted for (oops). So we go full detective: Rev 1, 1-bis, 2… whatever it takes until that screw rotor hums like it should.
- INTEC ROTORSSince 16 Sept 2026
"Should I go standard or custom?" It’s the million-dollar question (often literally, in terms of maintenance costs) that I hear most. Standard is often perfectly fine. There’s no need to over-engineer if the application doesn't demand it. However, the decision should be done according to the Rotor Configuration. Think of the configuration as the "DNA" of your system: a complex interaction between the number of lobes, rotor size, and the conceptual "Rack" used to generate the conjugate surfaces. Most modern profiles are rack-generated to ensure perfect meshing, but the lobe combination must be perfectly tuned to your specific speed and pressure. If your application sits right at the edge of a standard profile’s limits, you’re looking at a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) disaster. While the application (fluid, heat, load) drives the initial configuration, the mechanical limits of that configuration will, in turn, dictate your system’s final performance. My take: Sometimes a standard profile is a safe bet; other times, a slight tweak in the rack generation is the only thing preventing premature wear and vibration.

Most factories today are some sort of brownfield blend of shiny new machines and reliable old workhorses. When optimising production, we need data from both. Newer machines usually have connectivity built in. With the older ones, the question is more practical: what does it actually take to get useful data out of them? I talk about the realities of gathering legacy machine data in my latest blog post. Enjoy the read: 👉 Legacy machine data collection: Sometimes you have to open the control cabinet. https://lnkd.in/eRAwdxcJ

“We already collect everything — we just need to connect it.” I hear some version of that in almost every plant I visit. I still haven’t visited a manufacturer I’d consider fully decision-ready across the entire operation. What I most often see are 𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: critical machines, lines, or processes where the right data is collected and actually used to support decisions. Outside those islands, things get messy. Individual departments develop their own ways of collecting and using data. Different values, different formats, different systems, different purposes. The data rarely moves between those islands, even when it probably should. Then there’s the other extreme: connected machines generating plenty of data simply because they can, but with no clear plan for what that data should support or how it should be reused elsewhere. Where I see most manufacturers struggle is somewhere in the middle. Interestingly, a less-connected manufacturer with a clear purpose for its data can sometimes be further ahead than a highly connected one collecting everything without knowing why. That is because connecting one more machine or collecting one more signal is much easier than turning siloed solutions into a coherent data foundation that can be trusted, reused, and consistently expanded across the entire operation. 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗼. That's the journey this guide walks through — from fragmented data to decision-ready operations, with concrete steps to close the gap. I recently wrote for Sourcing Journal, the leading B2B title for executives across the apparel, textile, home and footwear industries, on a question I believe is becoming more urgent for fashion: what should brands now expect from the manufacturers they rely on? In the article, I argue that the industry needs to look beyond cost alone and pay far closer attention to integration, process control, long-term planning and the ability to keep performing under pressure. At Harnest, this belief is reflected in how we operate: through vertical integration, tighter process control and infrastructure designed to support delivery through volatility. If you are rethinking how to strengthen Tier 2 and Tier 3 sourcing, I would be glad to discuss how Harnest can support greater control, continuity and resilience. How encouraging is it that, even in a challenging international environment, there are still businesses and leaders pushing responsibility and sustainability forward, and backing recycled and biodegradable material options as part of the future of apparel production. Excited to share that HARNEST's first edition of the Responsible Trims Collection formally launches today — a new development platform designed to make recycled, next-generation and biodegradable trims a commercially viable choice for global apparel brands, at cost parity with premium virgin options already on the market. Trims are often the “bad boys” of circularity. They can represent 30–50% of the individual components in a garment’s bill of materials, yet remain one of the most overlooked barriers to scaling circular design solutions. The Responsible Trims Collection has been built to help close that gap, connecting material innovation with industrial-scale production. Working alongside S Assef and the #Harnest team, I continue to be impressed by what is possible when long-term thinking is matched by real manufacturing capability. #Bangladesh has a unique and often under-recognised ability to take promising material innovation and turn it into commercially viable reality — at scale, at speed, and at a cost the market can absorb. A sincere thank you to the partners featured in Collection One, and to those who have worked with us through the development and innovation process: 🌊 Matthias Fuchs and the OceanSafe team ♻️ Matthew I. and the Ambercycle team 🟢 Indorama Ventures and JIAREN You can read more on Ecotextile News here: https://lnkd.in/g5fYKeu7 What is equally exciting is that this is only the beginning. I’m energised by the next phase of material innovations already being tested and developed for Collection Two, and by what that could unlock for the industry.

AI does not just speed up monitoring. It changes what monitoring is. It turns observation into infrastructure, adaptive and always learning. The systems that once supported operations now shape them. In mining, the pressure to do more with less is not new. What is new is the shift in how decisions are made. The real constraint is no longer data, it is the time between insight and action. And in that gap, performance is either won or lost.
