Our Responsible Trims Collection has been featured in Sourcing Journal through WWD, in a piece exploring how traceability and circularity are converging to reshape the way the industry thinks about trims. While brands have long focused on fabric sustainability, trims, threads, elastics, zippers and labels, can account for more than 40 percent of a garment's bill of materials, yet remain among the least-addressed barriers to circularity. Harnest’s CEO S Assef noted in the piece: "Brands may focus on the main fabric, but the threads, elastics and labels within a garment also influence whether it can be more effectively recovered, recycled or redesigned for lower-impact outcomes." Our Responsible Trims Collection brings recycled, next-generation and biodegradable trims into existing supply chains at cost parity with conventional options, partnering with material innovators including OceanSafe, Ambercycle, BlockTexx, Indorama Ventures and JIAREN to connect innovation with scalable production. This coverage sits alongside features in Yahoo Finance, Ecotextile News and Fashion Business Journal, reflecting the growing industry recognition that circularity cannot be achieved without addressing the full compass of materials. How encouraging is it that, even in a challenging international environment, there are still businesses and leaders pushing responsibility and sustainability forward, and backing recycled and biodegradable material options as part of the future of apparel production. Excited to share that HARNEST's first edition of the Responsible Trims Collection formally launches today — a new development platform designed to make recycled, next-generation and biodegradable trims a commercially viable choice for global apparel brands, at cost parity with premium virgin options already on the market. Trims are often the “bad boys” of circularity. They can represent 30–50% of the individual components in a garment’s bill of materials, yet remain one of the most overlooked barriers to scaling circular design solutions. The Responsible Trims Collection has been built to help close that gap, connecting material innovation with industrial-scale production. Working alongside S Assef and the #Harnest team, I continue to be impressed by what is possible when long-term thinking is matched by real manufacturing capability. #Bangladesh has a unique and often under-recognised ability to take promising material innovation and turn it into commercially viable reality — at scale, at speed, and at a cost the market can absorb. A sincere thank you to the partners featured in Collection One, and to those who have worked with us through the development and innovation process: 🌊 Matthias Fuchs and the OceanSafe team ♻️ Matthew I. and the Ambercycle team 🟢 Indorama Ventures and JIAREN You can read more on Ecotextile News here: https://lnkd.in/g5fYKeu7 What is equally exciting is that this is only the beginning. I’m energised by the next phase of material innovations already being tested and developed for Collection Two, and by what that could unlock for the industry.

Trims Break Garment Recycling | This is the problem we’ve built HARNEST's newly launched Responsible Trims Collection around. When a garment arrives at end-of-life, the thread, elastic and labels travel with the fabric — and if they're incompatible polymers, they contaminate the recycling stream or lock the garment out of it entirely. The first material Harnest has brought to production is naNea™ by OceanSafe — a Swiss-engineered co-polyester that solves both sides of the circularity equation at once: 1. It's recyclable in PET streams (so it doesn't contaminate garment recycling) 2. it's marine biodegradable by >93% in 99 days (so if it escapes the system, it doesn't persist). OceanSafe's naNea™ has also achieved Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute Certified® Gold — Material Health at Platinum level. Critically for Harnest's customers: naNea™ runs on conventional manufacturing equipment, at comparable lead times and cost to standard trims. Circular design at the fabric level is advancing fast. Trim specification is still catching up. This is the gap where Harnest is actively developing innovative solutions. If you're a sourcing, product or sustainability lead working through this — review our website: https://lnkd.in/gNhd7zcP and contact us. #ResponsibleTextiles #ResponsibleTrims #ResponsibleThreads #naNea #OceanSafe #CircularMaterials #CircularFashion #CradleToCradle #SustainableTrims #DetailsThatMatter #Harnest #TextileInnovation

Today, we remember Rana Plaza and the 1,134 lives lost on 24 April 2013. In a new article for FashionUnited, Harnest CEO S Assef reflects on why that tragedy must never be forgotten, but also why Bangladesh’s garment industry cannot still be understood only through the lens of 2013. Shaikh makes the case for a more honest account of the past decade: one shaped by stricter safety oversight, regulatory reform, environmental investment and growing manufacturing maturity. At Harnest, we believe remembrance must come with accountability, and that progress should be recognised where it is real. Read the full op-ed here: https://lnkd.in/ekNStMh3

I recently wrote for Sourcing Journal, the leading B2B title for executives across the apparel, textile, home and footwear industries, on a question I believe is becoming more urgent for fashion: what should brands now expect from the manufacturers they rely on? In the article, I argue that the industry needs to look beyond cost alone and pay far closer attention to integration, process control, long-term planning and the ability to keep performing under pressure. At Harnest, this belief is reflected in how we operate: through vertical integration, tighter process control and infrastructure designed to support delivery through volatility. If you are rethinking how to strengthen Tier 2 and Tier 3 sourcing, I would be glad to discuss how Harnest can support greater control, continuity and resilience.
