As part of our national campaign "Support Is Care," people living with cancer, survivors, current and former caregivers, and cancer care providers are sharing their perspective on the need for equitable access to Supportive Cancer Care in every zip code. Jeanelle – an amazing young woman from New Jersey who survived Stage III breast cancer – is one of them. She shares all that her husband carried as her primary caregiver during her cancer journey, and how for so many people, “There’s no caregiving for the caregiver.” This is why Supportive Cancer Care is also essential for the family and friends who help care for a loved one. I am so grateful to the people around the country who are sharing their stories through Support Is Care. "People don't buy what we do, they buy why we do it" For those who know me well, you'll know I love Simon Sinek's The Optimism Company. Not only for his dulcet tones and charming curiosity on his "A Bit of Optimism" podcast. Also, for his understanding of people's innate desire to belong and connect. Since joining Breakthrough T1D in July, I've seen firsthand how our community shows up for our mission, and how they are deeply connected to our vision for a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). I've seen family members mobilise, workplace groups muster and neighbourhood teams rally to bring a collective energy and commitment to what we do: fundraise to accelerate research into finding a cure and improving treatments for those living with T1D, like my son Ben. To you, I say thank you for buying into why we do it. And Simon, if you'd like to see how this translates for us on the ground, join us for One Ride. 20-22 November in the beautiful Barossa Valley. We're riding together for something that matters. https://lnkd.in/gU2f7nGx

Engineering is becoming more interdisciplinary than ever. Developments in AI, advanced materials, and computational methods are creating new opportunities for innovation and problem-solving. At the same time, the challenges we face are growing more complex, making collaboration across disciplines essential. That's why in-person gatherings matter. They bring together researchers, industry leaders, and practitioners whose conversations can spark new breakthroughs. I'm looking forward to joining those conversations at this year's IMECE conference in Vancouver. Join me to discover where engineering is headed next: https://lnkd.in/e2N8pNWn

The immediate priority following a natural disaster is to save lives and support affected communities. But recovery also requires rapid and reliable financing. Without it, physical damage can quickly become a macroeconomic shock—driving up food prices, straining public finances, disrupting supply chains, and weakening longer-term growth. In my latest commentary, first published by Project Syndicate, I explain how disaster-risk finance can serve as macroeconomic firewall across ASEAN+3. Prearranged financing can help governments respond quickly, preserve fiscal space, and prevent natural disasters from becoming humanitarian, fiscal, and ultimately financial crises. https://lnkd.in/gbbGHsES

Disasters and emergencies aren't rare anymore. And yet most of the systems built to respond to them were designed around one assumption that no longer holds true. I wrote about what has to change — and the window to change it is narrower than most people think. Link in comments.

Conventional wisdom says older workers fall behind as tech evolves. The data says otherwise. A new AARP-LinkedIn report, led by Rebecca Perron, Matthew Baird, and Rosie Hood, PhD, shows workers 50+ are closing the tech skills gap, while bringing valuable soft skills – like leadership, communication, judgment and collaboration – that AI can’t replicate. The result? Stronger multigenerational teams, higher retention, and greater resilience for employers. Today is World Earth Day, and it feels like a natural moment to reflect on the responsibility we all share in protecting our planet. It’s also a reminder that meaningful change can often start with small choices - those made individually and as organisations. This gives me the perfect opportunity to celebrate and thank everyone at Koto for their own contributions this year. We’re incredibly proud to have been members and contributors of 1% for the Planet since 2020. Today, we’re the largest creative agency member across their entire global network, with an impact spanning three continents. Thanks to the commitment and input of our studios, we’ve donated £1,276,756 since joining the cause. In that spirit, I wanted to share a bit about the environmental charity work and initiatives we’ve been supporting this year, and why it matters to us. There's still a long way to go, but we're committed to playing our part, every step of the way, with care.

It is time to treat critical minerals as public goods. We don't let the market decide how many ports, bridges or railways we need. Yet, mineral supplies are at the mercy of thin and opaque markets that are easily manipulated. That must change. Government's are stepping in but we need to go further - reframing critical minerals as public goods is essential to unlock the required support, build whole-of-society consensus on responsible production, and shake the complacency that threatens our shared prosperity. Here's the case for it:

Right now, there are three warning signs that this Ebola outbreak could be particularly difficult to contain. 1. The outbreak is spreading faster than the response. 2. Conflict and displacement are accelerating the risk of regional spread. 3. Severe global aid cuts have weakened frontline health systems and outbreak preparedness across eastern DRC. The bottom line? This could become the deadliest Ebola outbreak on record without urgent international action. More in the International Rescue Committee's Flash Alert: https://lnkd.in/ejz3Kqrz

Today, the International Rescue Committee and The LEGO Foundation are announcing a new $97 million, five‑year partnership to help more than five million children across East Africa and the Middle East learn, develop, and thrive. More than 400 million children live in or are fleeing conflict zones, where disruption to learning, toxic stress, and insecurity threaten their development from the earliest years. Yet less than 4% of aid to crisis‑affected countries supports early childhood development, despite overwhelming evidence that early investment delivers the greatest returns. This is a landmark commitment by the LEGO Foundation. It builds on more than seven years of collaboration, through which we have already reached over seven million children. Together, we are embedding proven, playful learning approaches into national systems—moving beyond short‑term programs to solutions that deliver impact at scale and over time. For millions of children growing up in conflict zones, disruption—not development—is the order of the day. The LEGO Foundation’s anchor investment provides a powerful foundation, but reaching more children will require others to step forward. We are calling on public and private partners to join us in moving beyond survival and toward helping children thrive now and into the future. A government leader once told me we needed to phase out fossil fuels, but “as long as people are consuming oil, it might as well be ours.” Today, that thinking is changing. For decades, governments have negotiated emissions cuts but continued to increase fossil fuel production. The Santa Marta Conference marked a historic first step toward a new approach, and now that momentum is strong, we must move from dialogue to implementation. We need a Fossil Fuel Treaty, the international mechanism to manage a fast, fair and financed transition. Read more stories: https://lnkd.in/eijT9X5q

A Colombian mother and her baby inspired a clean air project in the Philippines. We were at a Clean Mobility Collective convening, talking about how to visualize pollution. "I want sometimes to put my son in a bubble," she said. Her words inspired 350 Pilipinas to create “Life in a Bubble” – a multi-channel campaign engaging local lawmakers on air pollution. Dann gewinnt unsere ganze Stadt. Credits: Ines Hasenau

"Out of all the things in this country that we could get rid of, why do you want to attack our children's learning?" A powerful question from a parent in rural Ohio quoted in The Hechinger Report’s piece by Jackie Mader. Here's what's at stake: 85% of brain development happens before age five. In many rural communities, Head Start is the only early learning and child care option available—not one of several, the only one. It keeps parents working and supports local economies. Yet Head Start programs across the country are facing serious funding uncertainty. Some have already closed classrooms or cut services. Strip this funding away, and we're not just closing programs. We're playing with the future of our country. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gU_aiy2E

Nearly half of all US families with children under 6 are struggling to meet basic needs. Let that sink in. Imaginable Futures has supported Stanford Center on Early Childhood’s RAPID Survey Project since the pandemic. Their latest data stopped me in my tracks: In July 2025, 45% of families with young children reported difficulty affording essentials, such as utilities, food, healthcare, housing, and child care. These are some of the highest hardship levels the RAPID survey has recorded since beginning during the pandemic in 2020. Even more alarming? This represents an 11 percentage point jump from just the month before, signaling a larger trend of deepening economic hardship. Our youngest learners and their parents deserve better. The early years are critical, with 85% of the human brain developing before age 5. When families can't afford the basics, we're limiting what's possible for everyone.
