With energy debt at record levels and Ofgem’s interventions likely to only scratch the surface, our upcoming webinar will explore what the sector can collectively do to drive accountability and meaningful progress. On 22 January, a panel of senior industry leaders will discuss the root causes of today’s debt landscape, how much sits within suppliers’ control, and where regulatory or government intervention is needed. We’ll also examine how the sector can build a more sustainable, prevention-focused approach to debt management and collection. Our last webinar saw more than 250 industry colleagues join us. For this upcoming session, we’re pleased to have Rachel Littlewood (BFY Group) and Stefan Guy (E.ON Next) on the panel so far, with more senior leaders being added next week. 👉 Secure your place here: https://bit.ly/3Ku31sQ If you’re unable to attend live, register anyway and we’ll share the full recording afterward. #EnergyDebt #Energy #Utilities

Someone just showed me the most cursed file in Europe by privacy counsels ;) POV: I tell someone I run a compliance tech company. Them: "Oh nice, we've got our RoPA handled." Me: "Amazing, what are you using?" Them: 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 "Excel." Me: 🫠 Listen. I love Excel. Excel built the modern economy. Excel put a man on the moon (probably). But your Record of Processing Activities, the document that proves to regulators you actually know what personal data you have, where it lives, who touches it, and why, sitting in a tab called "RoPA_FINAL_v7_USE_THIS_ONE.xlsx" that Frank from Finance has edit access to for some reason? That's not compliance... GDPR Article 30 did not survive eight years of enforcement so you could track 47 processing activities in a spreadsheet that explodes every time someone sorts a column or sneezes near the merge cells. If your RoPA can be ruined by a rogue ⌘Z, then I feel you.

We took a group of legal counsels out on a boat. Asked them: "Will AI replace you"? Everyone agreed: no, AI won't replace us. But we'll be replaced by the people who use it. A few other things I keep thinking about which were mentioned during the panel on the boat by Chaniel van Ballegooij, Leonie Peters Joost van Kleef Keelan Toomey "Don't mask your expertise with AI. Use it to work faster, sure. But your judgment is what clients pay for. Don't hide behind the tool." "Judgment isn't going anywhere. AI can draft a contract in seconds. It can't tell you if signing it is the right move for your client. That's still you." "The way we work will change. That's just true. The question is whether you fight it or lean into it." Honestly? The best part wasn't talking about AI. It was being outside. On the water. Together. Making actual human connection instead of talking to AI. Our jobs are evolving fast. But sitting there in the sunshine with smart people figuring it out together? I'm not worried. We'll adapt. We always do.

A virtual hug to the founders out there. Helen said to me recently that people think being a founder is all glitz and glamour. It really isn’t, I get it. Many days you feel like you’re spread too thin, like you’re the head of five different departments and you’re not sure which one you’re supposed to be today. I love this, but if you start a business expecting overnight success and private jets, it’s a bit of a shock. The truth is, some great ideas never get their moment simply because the founder gave up too early. If you know your idea is solid, the only real option is to keep going. Keep pushing. Eventually things do start to clear. So if you’re having a tough one, if you’re exhausted, if the effort isn’t matching the reward right now… stick at it and give your ideas the attention they deserve. But give yourself some time off. Founders never really switch off, they just do something different for a moment. And days off sometimes feel like an inconvenience, but they’re actually the reset button you don’t realise you need. Yesterday I worked a 14-hour day just so I could clear the decks before heading to a wedding in the Cotswolds today with my wife. That feels like a good balance.

- Vender a companhia tão bem quanto o CEO. Agora, a saúde fiscal do fornecedor afeta o crédito do comprador.

Hard truth: Your HR leader might be too close to the politics to make the call your business actually needs. When internal dynamics cloud judgment, tough (but necessary) decisions around performance, culture, or compliance can get delayed—or avoided entirely. That’s why companies are increasingly turning to embedded HR partners who bring not just experience, but objectivity. ✅ No agenda. ✅ No internal bias. ✅ Just a clear view of what’s working—and what’s not. Unbiased HR leadership doesn’t mean being disconnected. It means being aligned with the business, not the politics. And in moments of complex employee relations, that clarity can be the difference between smart decisions and costly mistakes. 👀 Worth the read: https://lnkd.in/dCFP4Z2Z Wondering if your HR is seeing clearly—or just too close to the fire? New hire starts tomorrow. Are you ready or just hoping it all goes smoothly? It’s easy to assume onboarding will take care of itself. A few meetings, a laptop, a Slack intro... done, right? Not quite. 1 in 5 new hires will quit within the first 45 days due to poor onboarding. (Source: Digitate) That’s not a performance issue, it’s a clarity and connection issue. And it’s preventable. That’s where a great onboarding process comes in. It ensures no one falls through the cracks during those critical first weeks. From setting up IT access to scheduling 1:1s, a strong process keeps teams aligned and new employees confident and engaged. Here’s what a good one includes: ✔️ Pre-boarding logistics (contracts, tech, welcome email) ✔️ Day 1 essentials (orientation, first task, team intros) ✔️ Week 1 connection points ✔️ 30/60/90-day milestones tied to role success ✔️ Optional steps for remote or on-site hires Whether you're building from scratch or leveling up what you already have, a checklist is one of the simplest, most effective ways to drive retention, clarity, and engagement.

Europe is at risk of making the same mistake again. We have the talent. We have the universities. We have the researchers, entrepreneurs and companies capable of creating world-leading technology. The problem is turning technological leadership into economic scale. The numbers tell an uncomfortable story. In 2018, the EU economy was worth around $16 trillion, compared with around $21 trillion in the US. By 2024, the EU had grown to roughly $19.5 trillion. The US had reached almost $30 trillion. The gap had more than doubled. This matters because we are entering another defining economic moment - and one Europe cannot afford to miss. That moment is AI, which requires enormous investment in compute, energy and data centres. The decisions about where that infrastructure is built are being made today. Those decisions will shape where the next generation of companies can grow, where capital flows and where talent chooses to build. If Europe does not create the conditions to build that infrastructure here, we risk watching another generation of technological leadership - and the economic value it creates - scale elsewhere. Sweden is a useful reminder of what is possible. A country of just over 10 million people has produced companies that have changed industries around the world. And in Q2 this year, Sweden's GDP grew faster than the US and major European economies. So this is not an argument that Europe lacks talent or ambition. Quite the opposite. The question is whether we can create the conditions to turn that talent into companies, infrastructure and economic scale for the long term. Europe has the talent to lead. What we cannot afford is another decade of watching that leadership create economic value elsewhere. That's what I'll be discussing at Tech Open during Nordic Tech Week on 10 September with Sara Rywe, Mattias Miksche and Henrik Hedberg. Join the conversation: https://lnkd.in/egNpvhb6

Will access to larger datasets - and the capital required to invest in technology - drive consolidation in the legal industry? I think it could and it's one of the questions I discussed recently with Fredrik Sjögren at Dagens Industri - the full interview is linked below. For decades, legal advice has been heavily dependent on the experience and memory of individual lawyers. The opportunity now is to make more of that expertise data-driven. Achieving this requires substantial and sustained investment - in data infrastructure, integrations, governance, evaluation, specialist talent and organisational change. This could create a powerful flywheel: • Capital enables firms to activate proprietary knowledge. • Better access to larger datasets can lead to better advice and client outcomes. • Better outcomes attract more clients and matters. • More matters generate more valuable knowledge and data. This may widen the gap between firms that have the resources to make their data useful and those that continue to depend primarily on individual experience - potentially accelerating consolidation, partnerships and shared technology platforms across the industry. The leading firms of the future will find ways to make the collective judgement and experience of the entire organisation available at the moment decisions are made.
