The "Sunk Cost Fallacy" is the most expensive mistake a Chief Lending Officer can make. It’s the quiet killer of Credit Union margins. You sit in those board meetings, feeling the heat of the CEO’s "death glare" while you explain, for the third quarter in a row, why loan volume is flat. You talk about "market conditions," but in the back of your mind, you know the truth. It’s the tech. You’re tethered to a legacy LOS that was sold to you as an "All-in-One" miracle. They promised it would do everything. They lied. What you actually got was a "Blackberry" experience in a Tesla world. A system that requires your team to spend their Saturday mornings performing manual overrides just to get a simple application through the pipes. You’re losing your best loan officers to the fintech down the street because they’re tired of fighting the software. You’re watching members abandon lending pages because a 30-day closing cycle feels like an eternity in 2026. And yet, you stay. You stay because you already cut the check. You stay because you don’t want to admit to the board that the "Innovation Partner" you picked two years ago is actually a boat anchor. But "staying" is costing you more than the contract is worth. You don't need to do this. You can get these results that Fuse is driving: 2.4x Increased Loan Conversion: - Stop letting qualified members slip through the cracks of a clunky UI. 71% Automation in just 1 year: - Imagine 7 out of 10 loans moving through your system without a human being having to touch a single "manual override" button. 68% Reduction in variable operational costs: - This is how you fix the efficiency ratio that keeps you up at 3 AM. 3.1x Increase in profitability margin: - This isn't just a "software upgrade." It’s a fundamental shift in your Credit Union’s math. Fuse gets the pickle you are in. We know you’re locked in. We know you have months—maybe years—left on that legacy contract that’s currently suffocating your growth. We decided to help. We put together the most insane offer ever. We have created a Rescue fund of $5,000,000. Here's how it works: Fuse handles the buyout so you can focus on growth. That's right, we cover the remainder of your contract payments. Stop throwing good money after bad tech. Stop letting a vendor’s failure to innovate become your Credit Union’s ceiling. The $5,000,000 LOS Rescue Fund is specifically designed to pay for your "divorce" from legacy tech. Check your eligibility for the Rescue Fund here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eSYEM62x

Fast is no longer a feature in today's Financial Services & Insurance markets. It’s the baseline. People have become accustomed to moving money instantly, and those expectations aren't going anywhere. What's interesting is how much work still goes into making those experiences feel effortless, especially for businesses relying on fragmented, legacy systems. We've spent years at Adyen building the infrastructure to address that challenge. By bringing payments, data, and money movement together on a single global platform, owning the full stack, and operating with our own banking licenses, we've been able to remove much of the complexity that businesses have traditionally had to navigate. And speed is only part of the equation. The same infrastructure that allows money to move efficiently also gives businesses access to real-time data to help detect fraud, manage risk and optimise cashflow. To me, that's where the real opportunity lies. Making financial experiences faster is important, but making them simpler, more intelligent, and easier to scale is what ultimately helps businesses grow. More on how we're approaching this at Adyen: https://bit.ly/4zDin1X

Tak for oplægget Jakub Slusarek

The breadth and depth of our global franchise and our unwavering commitment to serving our clients were reflected in robust client momentum, including USD 55 billion of net new assets in Global Wealth Management, with particularly strong inflows in APAC and the Americas. I’ve been around credit markets long enough to remember the telecoms boom at the turn of the century. In fact, I was a TMT analyst back then, which perhaps says something about how long I’ve been doing this! We’ve seen periods of outsized debt issuance before. Telecoms, banks ahead of the 2008 financial crisis, energy, and more recently software. The historical evidence is difficult to ignore. Now we’re seeing another significant wave of borrowing to finance AI. And there are good reasons to believe this cycle is different. For one thing, the hyperscalers have substantial cash flows that many of the companies in previous cycles simply didn’t. But you have to look at what you’re actually lending against. Data-center-backed bonds, for example, can have amortization built in and relatively strong lease arrangements. That’s quite different from unsecured hyperscaler debt or chip financing, where the risks and protections aren’t necessarily the same. I’m particularly focused on construction risk in the near term. Delays can push out expected cash flows, even where the underlying investment ultimately performs as intended. Longer term, questions around chip depreciation could become more significant. Thank you to Bloomberg for having me at its Future of Fixed Income event to discuss how the AI investment cycle is changing credit markets, and what investors should be watching as borrowing grows. Four market-moving events. One week. Crypto is about to find out who’s actually prepared. I told a reporter this week that it’s a nervy stretch for crypto and I meant it. Just look at what’s lined up: • A Fed rate decision today. • Earnings reports from the world’s biggest tech companies. • Around $12 billion in Bitcoin options expiring on Friday. • The US midterm elections next Tuesday. Any one of these events can move markets. Having all four unfold within the same week creates an entirely different environment. Here’s what I keep coming back to: Weeks like this aren’t about predicting outcomes. Nobody knows whether Warsh will signal a December rate hike, how Big Tech earnings will turn out, or how $12 billion in expiring options will affect the market. What you can control is whether you’re positioned to respond effectively when volatility hits. Because this is exactly when the cracks start to show. When catalysts converge and liquidity becomes unpredictable, spreads widen, markets fragment, and the difference between a good fill and a bad one is no longer a rounding error. The trading desks that successfully navigate weeks like this aren’t necessarily the ones with the most accurate forecasts. They’re the ones with the infrastructure to execute efficiently through volatility. Calm markets hide who’s prepared. Weeks like this reveal it. That’s the reality we build for at CoinRoutes.

Banks have been investing more in AI, and shareholders understandably want more detail on ROI. I spoke with Vanya Damyanova at S&P Global about what banks should be measuring. The first wave of AI has largely been measured on cost savings and efficiency gains that improve the bottom line. But judging it on that alone is a bit like judging a computer by how fast it helps you type. What about the revenue opportunities that could grow the top line? That could mean onboarding your most valuable clients faster or making better lending decisions as your underwriting model improves. We’re starting to see banks factor these competitive advantages into how they calculate the returns on their AI investments. Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/gH6zfxXe

I'm really happy to share that our KYC, AML and sanctions agents at Bretton AI have completed independent model validation by Kaufman Rossin! The number one question bank leaders ask us is how they can trust an AI agent in production. In financial services, we already have a framework for answering that: model validation and model risk management. Agentic systems need that same scrutiny. The review assessed how reliably our agents perform, how we can explain and trace their decisions, and how we manage changes and monitor them over time. We already test our agents against the work they do and each bank’s policies, but independent validation adds another layer of scrutiny. Read the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gw_VgzJP

I’m bad at crafts, but I do know how to ruin a knitted sweater: pull one loose thread. Auditors know this trick too. Many people around me love knitting, but ever since school I disliked crafts: My hands just couldn't produce the image I had in my head. Taking things apart on the other hand, I excel at: Pull the loose thread from the right end and hours of someone’s work is gone in minutes. Your auditor is doing exactly that - pulling the thread from the end and that pull will expose your compliance failures. So what are the compliance parts you are knitting together? A few examples I've seen failing: Authenticity of origin Are you able to prove to your auditor that the invoice you are doing VAT reclaims from did indeed come from the supplier it says on the invoice? Did you for example match it to your supplier master data or a signature proving its origin? Data integrity Can you prove to your auditor that the data you are working with and reporting is exactly the same as what the supplier sent you? A digital signature can help, but also a full, and properly archived, audit log with both manual and automatic actions (including format conversions!). Archiving Are you archiving the legal invoice? Your ERP-data is not the legal invoice. The PDF-visualisation of an XML you received is in most cases not the legal invoice. The invoice as it was _issued_ is the legal invoice you must archive. Summary: A mature system doesn't mean it is compliant The whole AP process has been built based on slow paper invoices. That was then later translated to PDF, a.k.a. digital paper (thanks Markus Hornburg for that wording!). But the process has never evolved. It should have evolved by digital transformation taking into account all today's fast-paced realities. So, just because it has worked for 40 years doesn't mean it won't be pulled apart in an audit. And to connect back to my inability at crafts: My kids tricked me into doing crafts recently. I agreed to record a video with them, not knowing they had secretly planned a crafts workshop! As an adult, I can't say I'm much better at it compared to as a kid. There is much more about the red thread in compliance, read it here! https://hubs.ly/Q04CfPTF0 #nowitalljusthappens

Research from 6sense finds that the pre-contact preferred vendor in B2B purchases wins approximately 80% of the time. (link to research in comments) Of course the great commercial teams work hard to interrupt and alter preference. But what gets you on the list? Your brand. Money20/20 is the shop window of the fintech industry. Every vendor, side by side, at the same event, along the same corridor, at the same airport and on the same strip. It’s where you see brands show up, and the difference between us is laid bare. At Checkout, we always want to celebrate payment professionals, to humbly put them first in all our work. To go deep and sit alongside their expertise, to be ambitious and unconventional in our advertising and in the content and the experience we create. For some come to Vegas for the thrills. We came for the payment panels - agentic, stablecoin regulation, and growing in the US payments market. We announced a partnership with Samsung and a move into in person payments. The Reserve at the Gjelina offered respite from the show and hosted massages, magicians, VR escapes, the fintech phrase book and the wonderful sharp lines of comedy provided by a unique Trevor Noah routine. So the industry window closes for another year. Thank you to the brilliant marketing team that put on our experience. And a final thought, if you love PAN encryption like we love PAN encryption, maybe we should swap numbers? To the Checkout marketing team, thank you. You didn’t run a conference.

In 2003, I lost £20 in a London Business School classroom. What I learned helped me ask a good friend on a date. Professor Zeger Degraeve had offered a wager involving a drawing pin hidden beneath a cup. Before revealing the result, we spent roughly two hours examining whether my decision to play made sense. Eventually, the full class agreed that it did. Then the cup was lifted. I had lost, and the class changed its verdict. The information available when I made the decision had not changed. Knowing the outcome had changed how we judged it. I recently shared this story with students at BML Munjal University. Their questions brought us to a challenge that matters well beyond investing. A good outcome can teach a team the wrong lesson. A founder wins a customer through unsustainable customization. An investor earns a return despite weak diligence. A corporate project succeeds because colleagues absorb an extraordinary workload. The result may deserve celebration. The method still deserves examination. Before your next consequential decision, record what you know, what you believe, and what would make you reconsider. When the result arrives, ask: * What did we know? * What did we not know? * What did we believe to be true? * What happened? * What will we change? Include successful decisions in that review. They shape what your team will repeat. I have shared the fuller story, including the personal decision it helped me make, and a practical five-question decision note in From Frontier to Iconic. Thank you to Professor Kulbir Lamba and the BML Munjal University students for such a thoughtful conversation. Was steckt hinter dieser leisen Mahnung? Gradually, then suddenly. This is the travel volume our customers book through Payhawk this year. Dark green is flights, light green is hotels. For eight months it barely moved. A good month, then a normal one. August looked like every month before it. Then September hit. Nothing special happened in September. What happened was months of work that made no difference to this chart while we were doing it. We fixed reliability before adding anything new. We fixed the flights flow people were already using. We started automatically checkin in users instead of building a UI for them to do it. We got hotels to the point where you can hand the agent the whole trip and will automatically book a cheaper offer if your price drops. We won back our sales and implementation teams. None of that shows up in the month you do it. It shows up later, all at once, and from the outside it looks like luck. The leap is decided in the flat months 🙂
