Bootstrapping feels safe. Loans feel risky. Investors feel exciting. Which path do you take? The truth is, there’s no universal answer. Each path comes with trade-offs: 💸 Bootstrapping protects equity—but can slow momentum. 🏦 Debt accelerates growth and protects ownership—but only if cash flow supports repayment. 📈 Equity brings capital and connections—but costs ownership and control. What founders need is clarity on what kind of growth they want, how quickly they need it, and what risks they’re willing to carry. I worked with a founder who needed to raise $500K to support growth. He didn’t want to lose equity and was fairly aggressive in his risk profile. Knowing the company’s strategy and preferences, we could then define a capital structure that allowed the company to continue to fuel growth without redefining strategy. Capital structure and strategy are inseparable; you can’t have one without the other. Owners need to make sure that capital structure and strategy are in alignment, having weighed all of the possibilities. At Amplēo Finance, we help leaders navigate these decisions, evaluate options, and secure the right capital at the right time. Thinking about your next stage of growth? Let’s talk about which funding path actually fits your business. https://lnkd.in/g4f5rF7J

Like many businesses, we often wondered, “Is our marketing really working?” Then we partnered with Amplēo Marketing. Our Amplēo fCMO and marketing team helped us answer that question in a practical, data-driven way. They broke down broad challenges into manageable, measurable steps. Along the way, they pinpointed weaknesses (like unreliable attribution) and refined our strengths, including our brand identity. Our efforts became more efficient, measurable, and effective—and their team made us feel like we were their only client. With their guidance, we eliminated wasteful spending, optimized our marketing mix, and focused our budget on high-impact areas. They also produced a heartfelt, memorable brand story video that continues to deliver strong results. The Amplēo team really became an extension of our team, from strategy to execution. I’d recommend Amplēo to any company ready for an honest, data-backed evaluation of their business and the courage to make meaningful, strategic changes. Not sure where your marketing stands? What's the best way to handle objections in a deposition? The answer, it turns out, is it's the same way you handle snakes on a plane. I'm serious. When I was a teenager I read this article about what a pilot should do if he sees a snake in the cockpit with him. Try to whack it with a flight manual? Radio to a flight attendant to come kill it? Ask over the loudspeaker if anyone is a herpetologist? The answer, according to this article, was none of the above. What you should do if you find a snake in your cockpit is -- 𝗳𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲! Don't get distracted; don't lose focus; just concentrate on continuing to move the ton of steel you are in control over through the air at 10,000 feet. In other words, your greatest danger is actually from not doing your difficult job, rather than from the snake. I have no idea if this is really good advice for pilots (though it makes sense to me). But I can tell you that it is for sure the right way to handle objections in depositions, especially in your first few years of taking them. Opposing counsel interjects: "Objection, asked and answered, I mean are you seriously going to keep at that; he's answered it like five times." Do you say: (a) "Counsel, speaking objections are prohibited; please limit yourself to proper objections"; (b) "What do you mean asked and answered; he refuses to answer the question!"; (c) "Asked and answered is not a form objection; stop trying to coach your witness." The correct answer is none of the above. The correct answer is to 𝗳𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲. In other words -- 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Specifically: ✈ maintain eye contact with the witness ✈ let opposing counsel finish the objection ✈ say politely to the witness "you can answer" or, if it was a long objection, "do you need me to repeat the question" That's it. You came here with a mission -- to get answers from this witness. Getting distracted from that single mission is a mistake, and one that is likely to do more harm than any coaching, obstruction, or record-making your opposing counsel is trying to do. Ignore the snake; fly the plane.

Big A.I. Announcement! 📢 After spending the last couple of years getting all of our precedents, knowledge database, guides, questionnaires, etc together for all the work we commonly produce and advice we provide, we now feel comfortable to implement A.I. into the firm. For the past few years, we've been watching all the major players roll out their A.I. solutions and we've been waiting for the right solution to come along for a boutique firm like ours. We know that if we don't adopt this new technology, we're going to be left behind. It's going to be a case of shifting the mindset, adapt, adopt or drift into the darkness. Just like those firms that refused to use computers when they came out, or the Internet, those firms will go the way of the Dodo. Progressive Legal has decided to choose an Australian-based legal specific A.I. business to provide the solution, as the best-on-ground. Samuel Junghenn's - AI Legal Assistant is already a game-changer for us! We've chosen it not just because of what it can do but also its ISO compliance, its infrastructure security, product and organisational security, data security and privacy, plus encryption. Obviously as a law firm, we have strict confidentiality and legal privilege to maintain for our clients. As a legal-industry specific platform, this provider has all of that security in place. We've now been using the program for the past month and we're seeing some really great results from it already. It is assisting greatly in double-checking draft work, review of heavy/large documents or voluminous materials, making sure that agreements cover off on all the relevant areas, even war-gaming of dispute matters. It's great to have not only a couple of sets of human eyes over work but also the A.I., even if just for our own confidence of various work that nothing has been missed, especially with tired human eyes. We're already moving faster, with more accuracy and confidence. These benefits directly go to our clients. We are able to already produce more work in better time and with less cost if we're working at hourly rates on matters. We believe this will give us a unique competitive advantage from adopting this technology and implementing it at all levels. At the end of the day, we're all about the quality of the legal product and advice we produce being at the "gold standard". With A.I. now assisting us, we're able to meet that standard on all fronts, on all matters for all clients. Our lawyers are also able to do more of the "lawyering" and their highest-and-best-use for the clients, be able to spend more time with the clients and provide fast and practical advice so they can get on with running their businesses. We're going to be using it more but I can't tell you here as that's our "trade secret"! I highly recommend if you're a small-medium firm, you have a demo of this platform. Thanks Samuel Junghenn for building such a great product for the Australian Legal Industry!

I'll say the quiet part out loud: most legal data platforms operating in Africa were never truly built for Africa. They were built primarily for South Africa, with partial coverage elsewhere layered on over time. And for years, that was enough. But African regulatory complexity has changed dramatically. Cross-border compliance expectations have increased. Regulators have become more active. ESG, AI, digital assets, cybersecurity, beneficial ownership, localisation requirements and sector-specific regulation are evolving simultaneously across dozens of jurisdictions. The old model of “a strong legal database for one country plus occasional updates on a few others” is no longer enough for companies operating across Africa. What organisations increasingly need is true regulatory intelligence infrastructure. That is exactly why we built Afriwise differently from day one. Not around one jurisdiction. Not around legal publishing. But around the operational realities of businesses navigating 54 jurisdictions, fragmented legal systems, inconsistent source material, multiple languages and constant regulatory change. And importantly: not around technology alone. Because African legal and regulatory intelligence is ultimately still about people, interpretation and local context. That is why Afriwise combines something that, to our knowledge, no other legal platform in the world combines at this scale: structured legal and regulatory data, practical guidance, regulatory monitoring, compliance workflows, AI infrastructure, and a pan-African ecosystem of leading local law firms and experts working together on one environment. Over the past 10 months: ✅ We acquired LawExplorer and integrated the gold standard of Africa's regulatory monitoring, Sentinel, into the Afriwise ecosystem ✅ We introduced Lexiwise, a modern legal intelligence infrastructure layer built on top of years of legal and regulatory data engineering; ✅ We introduced our Compliance Toolbox context, combining legal data, regulatory monitoring and compliance workflows into one environment ✅ We expanded our legal and regulatory intelligence coverage across 40+ African jurisdictions The next decade of African business will be powered by structured legal intelligence, regulatory context, workflow integration, trusted local expertise and AI systems that truly understand African law, combined with a suite of delivery tools, such as interchangeable interfaces, API's and Mode Context Protocol layers. That's the infrastructure we're building. #Afriwise #LegalTech #Compliance #Africa #RegulatoryIntelligence

Everyone loves the announcement. But what happens after the deal is done? 👉 In reality, most acquisitions in this sector don’t create one firm; they create five systems under one roof. Each with different tools. Different processes. Different tech debt. And while the logos get merged on day one, the workflows can stay fragmented for years. That’s why I’m joining Cerith Williams, Unity Accountancy, and Neil Criddle, Neil's Data Consultancy, on 16 September at 11:00 to talk about how leading firms are aligning their compliance stack without blowing things up. We’ll cover what happens after the ink dries, and how to bring order to the post-M&A chaos. If you're managing multiple offices, merging teams, or just trying to make sense of five ways of doing the same job, this one's for you. The higher you climb, the lonelier it gets. Your team looks to you. Your friends don’t really get it. And true peers? They’re rare. But proximity changes everything. In 15th-century Florence, the Medici family funded sculptors, scientists, financiers, and philosophers to collide. They debated, challenged each other, and sparked a creative explosion we now call the Renaissance. That didn’t happen in isolation. It happened in community. Because when you step outside your domain, you stop playing defense. You start seeing differently. Acting bolder. Thinking clearer. Creativity needs proximity. So does courage.

Ordnungsgeld?

This one’s for the founders. The mad, the bad, the crazy. The obsessed. The outliers. The beautifully abnormal. So many of us who choose this path don’t fit the conventional mold, and maybe we never did. Many founders are neurodiverse: living with ADHD, dyslexia, or simply wired in a way that the world hasn’t always understood. We are not ‘normal’. But that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with us. It means we’re different. And in that difference lies our strength. That unique wiring makes us driven, creative, obsessive, and sometimes we see things that others miss. It made my school days difficult and my 9-to-5 job unbearable, but it enabled me to build something. Being a founder means you: ✅ Launch products that solve problems. ✅ Employ people. ✅ Carry massive pressure. ✅ Sacrifice more than most will ever know. It is more than a job - it’s a shared identity. A community. A sense of belonging with other misfits who just want to make a dent in the world. So, if you're feeling a little too intense, too focused, too different, know this: ✅ That’s your strength. ✅ Don’t hide your difference. ✅ Don’t downplay your obsession. ✅ Celebrate and embrace it. Normal didn’t build anything or take any risks. But you did. 👉 Follow me for more unfiltered insight into the ups, the downs, and the beautiful chaos of building something meaningful. ♻️ Repost this to share with someone brave (or crazy) enough to start something? #FoundersSeries #NeurodiverseFounders #Entrepreneurship #ADHD #Dyslexia #Startups

The Glasgow pub paradox. Back in the 90s, in Glasgow, I watched a young entrepreneur open a pub that became the place to be. It was packed every night, queues down the street at weekends. Everyone said he had the magic touch. Encouraged by his success, he opened a second pub. Then a third. Then a fourth. But none of them worked. The crowds never came. Most people assumed he’d chosen poor locations or spread himself too thin. Logical guesses, but they missed the real reason. He never truly understood why the first one had worked. He believed it was down to his talent, but the success may have come from a combination of several different factors. He tried to repeat what he’d done, but not what had made it work. The lessons: ✅ Before you scale, understand why it worked. ✅ Question your wins as much as your failures. ✅ Stay humble – never assume you’ve got it all figured out. As Brent Hoberman, co-founder of lastminute.com, once said: “When something works, founders tend to scale quickly - but the real edge comes from knowing exactly why it worked in the first place.” The moment you take time to understand why something succeeded, you start building the ability to do it again. This time deliberately, not accidentally. 👉 Follow me for more stories about business, and the small truths that make or break success. ♻️ Repost this to share with someone brave (or crazy) enough to start something? #Entrepreneurship #BusinessLessons #Leadership #GrowthMindset #Startups

Transmission planning is advancing quickly, with the rise of AI-driven data centers creating unprecedented large load interconnection requests. Most utilities have not previously seen this volume of large load requests and are seeking ways to manage increased demand. Together with changes to generation interconnection studies under FERC Order 2023, these shifts are reshaping how we approach our studies to support long-term reliability of the transmission system.
