The higher you climb, the lonelier it gets. Your team looks to you. Your friends don’t really get it. And true peers? They’re rare. But proximity changes everything. In 15th-century Florence, the Medici family funded sculptors, scientists, financiers, and philosophers to collide. They debated, challenged each other, and sparked a creative explosion we now call the Renaissance. That didn’t happen in isolation. It happened in community. Because when you step outside your domain, you stop playing defense. You start seeing differently. Acting bolder. Thinking clearer. Creativity needs proximity. So does courage.

Your business is capped by how well you lead yourself. When owners stall out, it is rarely a market problem. "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it." Every month, we score something called the Wheel of Reality. Business KPIs, sure. But also marriage, kids, fitness, health, fun. Add it all up and you get what we call a soul score. Here is what you will find every single time. No wheel is round. You are cheating on something. Your business, your marriage, your health, your time with your kids. Always something. The point is not to be perfect across every category. The point is to actually look at it instead of pretending the wheel is round. If you scored your life right now, business, marriage, health, and fun, which number would surprise you the most?

Accountability is not complicated. Most leaders just make it more complicated than it needs to be. Accountability is responsibility for what you do and what you decide. In business, that responsibility shows up in three places. Your business. Your team. And the hardest one of all, you. Many leaders will hold their business accountable. Some will hold their team accountable. A small segment will hold themselves accountable, especially when they know they have been "danning" around pretty hard lately (you know who you are). Where do you need to increase your accountability this month?

For a long time I was a business guy on Monday and a different guy on Sunday. Two versions of me that never really talked to each other. Here's what changed it. I stopped treating faith like a compartment and started treating it like the lens I run everything through, how I lead, how I make decisions, how I treat the person who reports to me. Not a Bible study bolted onto a P&L. A filter for all of it. Whatever your version of this is, the tug you feel when your work self and the rest of you don't match up is worth paying attention to. The leaders I've watched build the most sustainable, healthiest companies are the ones who quit trying to keep those two selves separate. You don't get to bring your whole self to work by accident. You have to decide to.
