The most expensive measurement tool in a shop is the one sitting in a cabinet because only one person knows how to run it. We usually treat price as the main barrier to new technology on the shop floor, but it's rarely the whole story. Cost gets a tool in the door, but time to confidence decides whether it gets used. If a system needs weeks of training, a dedicated expert, or a long setup before every job, it ends up as shelfware no matter the price. The other trap is expecting one tool to solve every problem. Measurement should fit the application (part size, accuracy, throughput, budget), not the other way around. Knæk Cancer. Sikke en flot lørdag i det Sønderjyske jeg var med til. Padborg Dækcenter A/S og Bridgestone EMEA havde i samarbejde lavet et arrangement, hvor de Sønderjyske landbrug m.m. var inviteret til Padborg med hver deres traktorer, og betalte 1000 kr. for at møde op. Der mødte en masse fine traktorer op og som alle blev sendt ud på en lille tur fra Padborg mod Gråsten og retur. Der var heldigvis mange som stod ude på ruten og vinkede og hilste på hele karavanen som strakte sig over 3 km. Efter returnering til Padborg blev det samlede indbetalte beløb gjort op til 65.440 Kr som blev overrakt til den lokale kræftforening, som sendte pengene videre til det store knæk cancer show lørdag aften. Freddy Petersen og undertegnede var både glade og stolte over det store fremmøde, og vi blev især glade for det gode humør, og de mange glade landmænd der mødte op. De fortjener et kæmpe tak for indsatsen og ikke mindst bidraget til den gode sag.

Profit and risk aren’t the only reasons to invest in ILS. There’s a third factor, harder to express in money, but no less important: trust. A supplier without a maintenance concept, documentation, and solid analyses might deliver fast. But fast isn’t the same as demonstrably reliable. And that trust is exactly what Defence selects on, often before a tender is even issued. Companies with an ILS philosophy worked out at the product level, with the user in the field at the center from the start, get chosen faster and more easily. Your equipment needs to report its condition. Does it also need to accept instructions from the internet? 🤔 I am of course referring to the recent attack on supermarket refrigeration systems in France: https://lnkd.in/ecXrEvaB This definitely should make us question how equipment is connected! An understandable reaction is to disconnect everything. But maintaining equipment without knowing how it is performing has consequences too, especially at unmanned installations. A rising temperature, more frequent pump starts or increasing energy consumption can warn service teams before a breakdown. None of those insights requires the ability to operate the equipment remotely. For monitoring purposes, the IoT device can publish measurements to the cloud without subscribing to incoming messages. Broker permissions should enforce that restriction, with no separate remote access or control path enabled. That does not remove every cybersecurity risk. It removes a capability that many monitoring applications simply do not need. Remote access has its place when technicians need to intervene. It deserves a clear operational justification rather than being included by default. There is a cost advantage too. Dedicated monitoring hardware can make connectivity viable for smaller, price-sensitive equipment. This is where I see strong potential in combining e.g. Teracom Ltd. devices with Inuatek DCC: useful service insights at a cost that makes sense. Before pulling the plug, ask whether you can keep the insight and close the control path.

Geopolitical tensions are once again driving up energy prices, and European manufacturers in the food, confectionery and baking industry are feeling the pressure. In Europe, energy costs are around 3 to 4 times higher than, for example, in the USA. For many manufacturing companies, this has become a lasting cost factor that is putting pressure on margins. Companies in the FMCG sector know the situation: production is running, orders are coming in, but the energy bill is eating up a growing share of the result. As a machine manufacturer, we can take a close look at where energy consumption is highest in packaging lines and what can realistically be improved there using available technology. Every component consumes electricity. But some offer significantly more savings potential than others. Vacuum pumps are a good example. They grip, hold and transport. Nothing works without them. They run all day, every shift, often without anyone knowing exactly what that means in kWh. Vacuum pumps can account for up to 30% of the total energy consumption of a packaging line. Together with our customers, we took a closer look at their vacuum pump drives and ultimately achieved energy savings of up to 40%. Simply by switching to more efficient technology. We take it as part of our responsibility to find the best possible solution for our customers and today's challenges. 𝗡𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗡𝗼 𝗖𝗘 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗡𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. The new EU Machinery Regulation will become mandatory from 𝟮𝟬 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳. From then on, safety will definitively mean more than functional safety alone: connectivity, software and protection against manipulation will become key topics for machinery manufacturers. At ifm, we have been preparing for this for quite some time. Our 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 system combines robust sensors, safety controllers, decentralised I/O modules, AI camera technology, powerful displays and software into an integrated solution for mobile machinery. The system components are designed for demanding operating conditions such as vibration, moisture and extreme temperatures. An important building block is our 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 portfolio: the safety variants are certified for 𝗦𝗜𝗟 𝟮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗟 𝗱, among other standards. Standard and safety applications can be implemented using two independent controllers in a single device. TÜV-certified safety libraries also support programming and documentation. Cybersecurity is considered throughout the entire product lifecycle. 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. The attached video illustrates why: modern mobile machines are connected systems. Sensors, controllers, cameras, displays and software continuously interact, making the protection of data, interfaces and system integrity increasingly important. For machine builders, this means thinking about 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, from development and commissioning through the entire product lifecycle. Three years ago, we started Mission Blue to future-proof Schubert. Looking back on 2025, we are sharing where we stand for the first time in a fully digital format: our ANNUAL 2025. It brings together our sustainability magazine, our annual report and our ESRS reporting, structured around the four fields of action that guide us: sustainable corporate management, climate-friendly production, eco-friendly machines and services, and sustainable packaging. For most of our customers, the third field matters most. The question we hear is simple: how much energy can a packaging system actually save? Quite a lot, as it turns out. On existing Schubert systems, new glue units cut consumption by 35 percent, and optimised robot motion saves another 10 to 20 percent. Our new machine generation is passively cooled by air instead of water, so the cooling needs almost no energy at all. In our Packaging Competence Center, we are developing packaging that works without glue or plastic. And because we hold ourselves to the same standard, we reduced our own Scope 1 and 2 emissions by more than a third over the past five years, while our output grew by 32 percent. The latest PwC study on AI in manufacturing confirms what we see every day: data quality tops the challenge list at 42%, followed by data accessibility, technological maturity, and legacy system integration. How do we fix this? Quoting the report: "Manufacturers are coping with a heterogeneous IT/OT landscape and vast amounts of unstructured data that need to be collected, integrated, and prepared before they can be used by AI models." Three things to get right: 🔧 Fix the plumbing before adding smart faucets. If your filling line historian can't reliably log batch transitions, no AI model will help you cut scrap. Start with data architecture, not AI architecture. Build for reusability: one foundation that serves multiple applications. 🔖 Contextualize, don't just collect. Don't just pipe sensor data to the cloud. Your operators know what normal looks like, so capture their domain expertise. Add operational context: shift patterns, product changeovers, maintenance events. 📊 Let business value drive applications: The best AI projects aren't about AI. They're about unlocking high-impact use cases like predictive maintenance, quality optimization, and energy efficiency. All built on the same trusted data foundation. The common thread among manufacturers succeeding with AI? Treating their operational data as a strategic asset, not a byproduct.

I've always imagined walking around a production plant and simply "asking Siri" what the status of line two was. With Factry Historian v8.1 and the launch of the built-in MCP server, that's no longer just an idea. We always aim to develop with one of two goals in mind: making it easier to use and explore production data, or making it easier to technically integrate data into a broader ecosystem. As we continue to deliver on our NextGen Growth 2030 strategy with discipline and at a fast pace, I thank all of our 50 000 employees worldwide for their contributions to our strong results in the first nine months of the year. We achieved strong profitable growth with an industry-leading recurring EBIT margin of 19.2.% thanks to increased customer demand for our high-value offering, strict cost discipline and operational excellence. Our agreement to acquire Fermacell, announced in August, will expand Holcim’s European walling, flooring and fire protection portfolio, while broadening our integrated building systems and modular construction offerings. This transaction is subject to customary conditions and regulatory clearances and expected to close in H1 2027. Holcim’s NextGen Growth 2030 strategy is expected to continue driving superior performance and value creation. 🚄 Enhancing Safety and Efficiency with Eurostar It is a pleasure to announce that the Eurostar maintenance team in London has selected the Evident Industrial IPLEX G Lite to support their fleet inspections. The Challenge Each Eurostar train consists of 16 carriages, with 60 rubber bushes located throughout the 16 carriage train, these vital components reduce vibrations and knocking during acceleration and deceleration, ensuring a smooth journey for passengers, however, inspecting them for cracks or breakages can be a complex task, requiring engineers to either remove flooring from between carriages or access them from beneath the train in the maintenance bays. The Portable Solution To make this specific inspection easier and more repeatable, we have provided the team with our highly portable IPLEX G Lite along with specialised accessories designed for confined and difficult to reach spaces, this solution allows for high quality visual data without the ergonomic strain of traditional methods. ABB Voordat ik bij ABB begon, kende ik het bedrijf eigenlijk nauwelijks. Inmiddels werk ik er zo’n tien jaar en geef ik leiding aan Marine & Ports in Nederland en de area Centrale Europe, zoals Denemarken, Duitsland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Wat me in die jaren het meest is bijgebleven, is hoeveel vertrouwen je kunt krijgen om je eigen weg te vinden. Ik begon als business controller, kreeg al snel de kans om Business Support opnieuw op te bouwen en ben daarna verschillende rollen gaan vervullen, ook internationaal. In 2022 kreeg ik de verantwoordelijkheid voor Marine & Ports Nederland en central Europe. Met de vrijheid om een nieuwe strategie te ontwikkelen, een managementteam samen te stellen en samen verder te bouwen aan de divisie. Inmiddels zijn we gegroeid van ongeveer vijftig naar meer dan honderdveertig collega’s in Nederland en rond de 250 internationaal. Voor mij zegt dat veel over werken bij ABB. Er wordt gekeken naar wat je kunt, waar je initiatief neemt en welke verantwoordelijkheid bij je past. Mijn loopbaan hier was vooraf niet uitgestippeld.
