The most expensive measurement tool in a shop is the one sitting in a cabinet because only one person knows how to run it. We usually treat price as the main barrier to new technology on the shop floor, but it's rarely the whole story. Cost gets a tool in the door, but time to confidence decides whether it gets used. If a system needs weeks of training, a dedicated expert, or a long setup before every job, it ends up as shelfware no matter the price. The other trap is expecting one tool to solve every problem. Measurement should fit the application (part size, accuracy, throughput, budget), not the other way around. That thinking shaped the HYPERSCAN SR, the newest and smallest member of our HYPERSCAN family. It's built for small- to medium-sized parts, at a lower price point, with a shorter learning curve than competitive technologies. The battery and wireless are integrated, voice control is standard, and it's ready to measure right out of the box. As needs grow, this product family scales with them, from HYPERSCAN Ultra and Super up to our Arms and Laser Trackers. After sharing an early look at IMTS last month, one thing was clear: Teams aren't asking for more features. They're asking for tools their people will actually use. "Can you make 50 of these by next week?" It's a great call for a small shop to get, right up until the next question: "Can you send over the CAD file?" "We don't have one." For a lot of CNC shops, thermoformers, and foundries, that's where the opportunity starts slipping away. Modeling a part by hand with calipers can take a week and outsourcing it can take just as long. Even more, freeform surfaces are hard to get right, so small errors show up later as scrapped material, extra machine time and another round of iterations. By the time the quote goes out, a competitor already has the job. That's the problem Geomagic Design X was built to solve: scan the physical part, build an accurate, editable CAD model and send it straight into the software your team already uses. In almost every conversation I have with shops, speed to quote comes up as the difference between winning and losing work. The right tools let a small shop compete with much bigger players. How long does it take your team to quote a part when there's no CAD model? https://lnkd.in/eau2MWtv #ReverseEngineering #3DScanning #Manufacturing Geomagic software

Early in my career, I was asked to set up a laser tracker at a portable crane manufacturer and measure the crane sections as they stacked together or nested. A month later, they called me back to do it again. Why? Because nobody else had been able to give them the same repeatable data. I think about that experience a lot when people talk about automation. Robots, automated cells, and software get most of the attention. But none of it works without measurement data you can trust. If the data is wrong, automation just helps you make the wrong decision faster. I’ve spent my career in portable measurement, selling both hardware—laser trackers, portable arms, and large-area scanners—and software, including SpatialAnalyzer and Inspire, that help customers measure anything, anywhere. That’s why the idea of “achievable automation” makes so much sense to me. Automation shouldn’t be an all-or-nothing bet. It should start with trusted measurement, scale at your pace, and fit the application. Sometimes that means a standard solution you can deploy today. Other times, it means a custom system built with the right integration partners. Either way, the foundation is the same: data you can trust. If you’re figuring out where automation fits in your operation, I’d be glad to talk it through. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dn2UMuaw #Metrology #Automation #Manufacturing

Great turnout at our IMTS 2026 press conference yesterday. Alongside Joel Martin, Hiren Kumbhojkar, Amy J., Drew Bulbuk and Gabriele Persichilli, I got to share something we're really proud of: our shift toward "achievable automation." Here's the reality: Only 24% of manufacturers feel they're ahead on automation, and 8 in 10 name a real barrier to adopting it. Too often it's felt like an all-or-nothing choice: an off-the-shelf option that doesn't quite fit, or a custom build that's prohibitively expensive. We think there's a better way. A path that starts with trusted measurement, scales at your pace, and adapts to your application, whether that's a standardized solution ready to deploy today or a fully custom system built with our integration partners. Automation is only as good as the measurement data behind it. That's the thinking behind everything we're showing this week at Booth #134102. Whether you're just starting to explore automation or ready to scale what you already have, we'd love to talk through what makes sense for your operation. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/4xpC7Vt

Every year IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show gets bigger, but this year I'm most excited about something "small"... our new compact robotic inspection cell, PRESTO XS. This launch matches what I keep hearing from manufacturers walking these halls: automation shouldn't mean choosing between a rigid off-the-shelf system or a massive custom integration project. PRESTO XS finally offers an in-between. It's a compact, mobile robotic inspection cell that can sit right next to the machines making the parts. Operators can build and edit inspection routines themselves, no robot programming background needed. It moves easily between a fully automated cell and handheld scanning, depending on what the day throws at you. And if you outgrow it, it scales right into our bigger PRESTO Quality Stations lineup. If you're at the show this week, swing by Booth #134102. I'd love to help you find the right fit from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence's achievable automation lineup. Not at IMTS? You can learn more about our range of automated inspection options and book a meeting with the team here: https://bit.ly/4xpC7Vt
