There’s a gap between promise and reality that’s costing Vertical SaaS providers significant revenue. It’s the integration trap with embedded payments. The market is flooded with embedded payment solutions that tout "simple integration" as their primary value proposition. Dig deeper, and you'll find they've achieved simplicity by stripping out the very features that make payments valuable to your customers. Features like line-item billing. Multi-channel invoicing. Future-dated payments. Adding authorized payers. Paying by voice and text. Subscription billing. Flexible payer fees. These are table stakes for any business managing receivables at scale. Yet most embedded solutions force you to choose: accept their limited feature set or commit engineering resources to build what's missing. That’s not a partnership; it's a hidden development tax that undermines your business. This puts you in an impossible position. The ROI calculation that justified embedded payments in the first place? It evaporates when you factor in the build cost for essential features. The embedded payments decision shouldn't force you into a false choice between speed to market and feature completeness. The right embedded payments partner delivers both: seamless integration and a complete receivables management solution. I’m proud that we’re delivering that reality to Vertical SaaS customers today. Before coming to Aliaswire, Inc., I helped lead a global go-to-market team at PayPal and it’s where I learned one of the most valuable lessons of my career: if you listen with intention, the market will tell you what it needs. And if you act with intention, you can meet it. When I landed at PayPal, it was the undisputed global champion for ecommerce payments, serving every size, type and vertical across the retail spectrum. But those same retailers saw a growing disconnect between their online and instore experiences. In short order, we helped those retailers launch innovative experiences that married digital, mobile and in-person – starting with Subway where we helped them build one of the industry’s first mobile ordering and instore pick-up applications. That experience taught me to stay obsessively focused on customer signals and to take bold and decisive action in response. Today, we’re applying this lesson at Aliaswire. We have a battle-tested receivables management platform that's been deep in vertical industries, easily accessed through APIs and no-code components. So when Vertical SaaS companies told us they needed to upgrade from their basic payment provider to a more complete receivables offering, we listened and adapted. We added full Payfac services to provide the full payment lifecycle. At Aliaswire, we're not just building what we think Vertical SaaS companies need; we're building what they've explicitly told us is missing in the market. And if there's one thing my time at PayPal taught me, it's that the market will always show you the path forward if you're willing to follow it

"A hundred euro might come in. But it's not all our one hundred euro." Uwe van Rensburg in Episode 2. He was describing the difference between a marketplace and an e-commerce platform. On e-commerce, money in the bank is the company's. On a marketplace, most of it isn't. Part belongs to the supplier. Part is held on behalf of the traveler. Part is insurance. Part is ancillary services. If you can't split that hundred at the moment it arrives, you have a compliance problem waiting for an audit. If your books mix custodial and operational revenue, the scan tells you. https://lnkd.in/evwREgHf #HighVolumeAccounting #MarketplaceFinance #CFO

Finance teams at high-volume businesses are dealing with something most tools weren’t built for. Thousands or even millions of monthly transactions. Multiple payment providers. Month-end processes that take days because the numbers don’t add up automatically. And nobody’s talking about it the way it actually is. That’s why we built 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 A half-day at Fort Voordorp on 22 September for the people actually living this problem. No vendor pitches. No fluff. Just honest conversations with finance leaders who have been in the same seat. If that sounds like your world, details are in the comments. One dealership cut factory report processing time by more than 90%. What used to take most of a day now takes minutes. And accuracy went up, not down. Same team. Same reports. Same DMS. The only thing that changed was where the work happened. Instead of people rekeying hundreds of line items by hand, the data was automatically ingested and transformed before it ever touched the GL. Read more about how here: https://lnkd.in/dnx5JiTs If a factory statement still eats a full day in your office every month, read this.

Here’s math nobody puts in the acquisition model: every new rooftop adds hours of manual accounting work, so accounting pressure on the back office grows right alongside the store count. Sometimes faster. That’s not a problem you can hire your way out of. The experienced dealership accountants you need to hold onto, or hire, are few and far between these days. Leading dealerships help their accounting teams automate the proven processes they’ve already developed, and free them up to work on the business instead of just in it. For a long time, the playbook for ambitious UK and European startups was simple: build early momentum locally, then move to the US to access the larger funding rounds needed to scale. That is beginning to change. We're seeing bigger Series A and Series B rounds happen in the UK and Europe, a sign of a maturing ecosystem. It’s not just a handful of outliers anymore; it’s becoming a regular occurrence. There’s much work still to be done, but the progress is undeniable. I spoke about this and much more on a recent episode of Upside with Dan, Mads, Lomax, and Dilek. If you're thinking about the future of European tech, I’m biased, but it's worth a listen! This is cool. Literally! Most quantum computers need cooling to around 4K (or in many cases even milli-Kelvin temperatures, far lower). Universal Quantum’s quantum computers only need cooling to a modest 70K, making a scalable machine not only feasible but far simpler to operate. I first reached out to Winnie and Seb in 2016 after reading about their quantum work at the University of Sussex 8 years ago. Founders like Winfried and Sebastian remind me how lucky I am to do this job. It’s been a privilege to support them on this journey and we’re just getting started! ____ Backing deep tech requires conviction, not consensus.
