I’ve always believed life is too precious to spend in a rut. Climbing Denali taught me that firsthand. Minus-20 degrees at the summit, sleepless nights at 17,000 feet, and rockfalls at Windy Corner that could take you (and your whole team) out if you didn’t move fast enough. Those moments remind me why I seek out challenges that push me past my comfort zone. They force you to trust your team, take calculated risks, and stay focused when the margin for error is zero. That same mindset drives how we back Emergence Capital founders: we support people willing to step onto the ridgeline, one careful step at a time. AI can master every rule we give it. But only humans can break the rules that no longer serve us. Optimization is predictable. Mutation is revolutionary. In closed systems like Go, AI can discover strategies no human ever imagined, but only because the rules and outcomes are fixed. The real world isn’t like that. In human-driven domains like sales, marketing, product design, management or leadership, the “game” keeps changing. There is no final answer. Biology does not conform to a fixed outcome. Mutations drive massively complex diversity across species. That’s where humans matter most. Breakthroughs come from unexpected moves — the surprising moments that redefine the game itself. More than 15 years ago, automakers were optimizing gas efficiency and making incremental progress on EV concepts. Tesla mutated the auto market by making EVs aspirational and completely bypassing dealerships. Phones were once optimized for size, battery, and call quality. Apple mutated the category entirely by turning the phone into a touchscreen computer you keep in your pocket. Examples of human “ahas” are everywhere. AI can codify our insights and scale them instantly. We call this the “human dynamic frontier”. But it can’t originate them at the same pace billions of humans can; each one experimenting, innovating, and adapting in real time. Optimization without mutation leads to a plateau. Mutation without optimization leads to chaos. The winning formula is human mutation at the edge, paired with AI’s ability to scale and refine what works. The companies that thrive in the AI era will be those that don’t just automate for efficiency, but deliberately protect and model the human capacity to change the game. If you are exploring ways to harness this human frontier with AI, email me at [email protected].

Most AP leaks don't come from fraud. They come from things that look completely normal. John Mercer, AP Manager at Meridian Logistics, came back from vacation to 340 unread emails. He caught up on everything. He missed one. Subject: Credit Note - Short Shipment - $25,000 It was from Adam Cole, Billing Lead at VendorCo - one of Meridian's tier-1 suppliers. Adam had done what any billing person does when they don't hear back - he resent the invoice. Same amount. Same vendor. Different reference. INV-123 instead of 123. Meridian's ERP ran the three-way match. PO matched. GRN matched. Amount matched. Paid. Twice. The credit note sat unopened. Expired. No fraud. No system error. Just a billing lead doing follow-ups, an AP manager catching up after a holiday, and an ERP doing exactly what it was built to do. The dots were all there. The system just wasn't built to connect them. $73,750. Gone. Detected only at quarter-end reconciliation. Note: The company and individuals mentioned here are fictional. The pattern, the logic, and the gap are very real.

A GCC gives you something headquarters never will - the person who owns the problem is also the person you're building with. With Target, their tech team was here. We built the integration together, no filters, no delays, just the people who needed it most, in the room. That's not a small thing. Most startups spend their best energy navigating enterprise layers just to reach the actual stakeholder. In a GCC that distance doesn't exist. Enterprise scale. Direct access. That combination is rare - and most startups aren't looking for it here yet. Conversation with Abhay and Malahar Pinelli, VP & Country Leader, 7-Eleven GSC - The Innovators and Disruptors Collective.

"Can you model these scenarios real quick?" How many times have you heard the deal partner utter those words? Running a private equity firm requires constantly re-evaluating the cost and benefit of the options in your portfolio. "Should you approve the capex budget for the new plant?" "Is that potential bolt-on acquisition accretive to returns?" "When is the optimal time to sell the company?" All of these require deal level waterfall calculations to be calculated accurately. This used to take hours, days, or even weeks to get right. With Dealstack's waterfall you can run multi entity waterfalls in minutes. Everything is 100% auditable, customisable and based on the latest ownership data. Build custom dashboards and reports to slot into decision materials. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to see it in action.

If fraudsters can fake your face and voice, what does that mean for finance controls? This article (https://lnkd.in/dK3w68fk) shows how quickly AI-enabled scams are outpacing traditional defenses. A CFO’s voice on a video call. A payment request that looks authentic enough to move millions. The “tells” we once relied on are vanishing. This isn’t just a cybersecurity concern. It’s a finance governance issue. Because when approvals and transfers depend on trust in a single channel or a single person, the process is already vulnerable. The only real defense is designing finance processes that don’t rely on surface-level trust in the first place. Controls that verify continuously, approvals that withstand manipulation, and systems that assume requests can be falsified. Deepfakes don’t just test our awareness. They test the integrity of the processes we run finance on. And right now, most processes aren’t ready. #FinancialIntegrity #FraudPrevention #RiskManagement #Audit #AIinFinance

What would you do if 98% of your financial processes were never reviewed? That’s essentially what audit sampling means in practice. As finance leaders, we’ve all relied on it for decades. But when I think about it, the odds don’t sit right. We place confidence in numbers based on a fraction of the picture. Trusting that the unseen 98% behaves the same way as the 2% we checked. It raises a bigger question: in an era where we can see everything, why are we still accepting partial visibility? For me, this is a conversation about trust. Boards, regulators, and teams expect us to stand behind the integrity of our processes, not just a sample. That requires moving from “good enough” assurance to continuous visibility. At Datricks, we’ve been rethinking what that means in practice. I invite you to see what Financial Integrity really looks like with Datricks. We are doing some exciting work to make complete visibility practical, so integrity isn’t assumed, it’s proven. #FinancialIntegrity #Audit #RiskManagement #CFO

LPs and GPs alike are waking up to the same problem: the private markets move faster than their reporting cycles. Quarterly valuations made sense when funds were small, illiquid, and built for long-term holding. But as semi-liquid and secondaries strategies grow, waiting months for performance data isn’t just inefficient, it’s a risk. You can’t manage what you can’t see, and you can’t value what you can’t trust. The next generation of private markets will run on accurate, connected data that enables monthly or even daily valuations (we're seeing this already with our clients). It's 2025, why are we still running at spreadsheet speed?

I ran into this guy on the West End Highway - turns out it was the founder and CEO of Solgaard Design Inc. Adrian Solgaard let me chase him to the little island and back while sharing his journey building one of the leading sustainable (and in my opinion, most stylish) travel gear brands in the market today. A few things that blew me away: 🌊 Solgaard cleans up 6 lbs of plastic for every item sold 🎉 They launched a collab bag with Ke$ha this year (!?) 💰 Adrian bootstrapped and raised along the way- strategically tapping into community-led capital 👯 He intentionally chose retail investors over institutional, even when he easily could’ve gone the VC route 💭 His reflections on his favourite part of being a founder 🗽 And how he ultimately ended up in NYC If you haven’t checked out Solgaard, now’s the time...could be the perfect holiday gift you didn’t know you were looking for. Before I co-founded DealMaker, I was a capital markets lawyer. And when I left my partnership at the world’s largest firm back in 2016, people thought I was crazy. Fast forward to today: I just testified before Congress to help shape the future of capital formation (an amazing “full circle” moment for me). DealMaker has powered over $2 billion in online capital raises for 900+ American businesses—helping founders raise the capital they need to grow and creating tens of thousands of jobs. And I’m not practicing law anymore. I’m helping shape the laws themselves. Because the system is working, but it can work even better. That’s why I pushed for: ✅ Raising the caps on Regulation A and CF—letting more businesses raise the capital they need. ✅ Harmonizing regulations—so founders and investors can navigate a system that makes sense. ✅ Expanding investor access—so more Americans can build wealth beyond traditional avenues. The future of finance is digital, borderless, and inclusive. The playbook is changing—and it’s such an honor to be part of that change. #Congress #JOBSAct #CapitalMarkets #DealMaker #RetailCapital

For most tech employees, the post-IPO lockup is the waiting period. But it's actually the most important time to be planning. You need to be ready with a strategy for when the subsequent windows open. Because once trading goes live, the price is moving every day — and you don’t want to be stuck in reaction mode or following someone else’s plan because it sounds like the easiest decision. Before the lockup opens, decide: → At what price do I start selling? → What are my exercise decisions? → What does my company's trading window calendar look like? → What potential outcome would give me the least regret? If you want to model out scenarios before the lockup opens, our equity planning tool was built for it: https://lnkd.in/e8PPW44J

We're having lots of conversations with local authorities and other funders, as well as the organisations seeking funding on Crowdfunder, and there's a clear pattern. Budgets are being cut, demand for funding is going up. Organisations are overwhelmed with applications, funders are overwhelmed processing them, and the whole system ends up slower and less effective for everyone - least of all the communities it's meant to serve. I'm not going to pretend we've got all the answers. But we do have some brilliant partnerships doing great work - supporting their communities in ways that are more engaging, more effective, and more sustainable for the long term. Collaboration between multiple funders, plus all the benefits that come with a public fundraise. That's what I want to talk about on 22 July: a free, one-hour webinar on match funding for local authorities. I'll be joined by some of our partners and by projects that have taken part in the programme, and we'll get into how it works in practice, what our partner councils are seeing, and plenty of room for your questions. If you're holding a funding pot and wondering how to make it go further, come along. Free, one hour, 12pm on the 22nd. Register here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eS4dTTEa

#togethertothenextlevel

- CRS Credit APIRecorded 14 Sept 2026
Every private lending deal has two borrowers. Most lenders only underwrite one of them. There's the guarantor, a person with a personal credit file. And there's the entity, the LLC or trust that actually holds the loan. Both carry risk. But most lenders only pull the guarantor's personal credit, because that's all their reseller offers. The business side stays a blind spot until it becomes a problem. Underwriting the person while ignoring the entity is reading half the file. Thin-file businesses, complex ownership, and shell structures all hide in the half you're not seeing. CRS returns consumer credit on the guarantor and commercial credit on the entity through one integration. Experian Business data and the TEC Score on the entity. Full tri-bureau on the guarantor. Public records and liens tie the two together. One call, the complete picture, backed by a team with over 25 years in credit data. If you're underwriting entities on guarantor data alone, that's worth a conversation.
- CRS Credit APIRecorded 14 Sept 2026
Most lenders outgrow their credit vendor by year two. They just don't realize the cost until they're mid-migration. Here's how it happens. You pick a vendor for origination pulls on day one. The book grows. You start holding loans longer, verifying income with tax data, monitoring portfolio risk, maybe furnishing loan performance to the bureaus. None of that was in scope when you signed a reseller for tri-merge reports. So you bolt on vendors, or worse, you re-platform. Migrating a live lending operation is slow, risky, and expensive. CRS is built to grow with you instead. Origination pulls, batch monitoring, tax and income data, commercial credit, and bureau furnishing all live on one platform, under one relationship. When you need a new capability, you turn it on. You don't rebuild, and you don't re-integrate. That's the difference between growing into your data partner and growing out of it. Backed by a bureau-recognized, SOC 2 Type II certified team with over 25 years in credit data. Glad to talk through where your book is headed.

We've just completed something I've been heads-down on for the better part of this year: Crossmint is now authorised as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider under MiCA and as a Payment Institution under PSD2. Most people conflate the two. Worth being precise about why both matter: → MiCA authorises us to exchange and transfer crypto-assets, including stablecoins → PSD2 authorises us to execute payment transactions → Purchasing a stablecoin and moving it as a payment are two different regulated activities in the EU, and until now, most infrastructure providers only covered one Without the PI licence, moving e-money tokens as payments meant relying on a separate licensed payment provider to execute the transaction on your behalf. That's a dependency, and it's the piece we've now removed. We're one of only two firms in Spain holding the full stack: MiCA and PSD2 together. The bar to get here properly, on both sides, is not low. With both authorisations in place, fintechs, neobanks, remittance and payroll platforms building on Crossmint get one regulated counterparty for the full flow: purchase and payment execution, under one compliance perimeter, passportable across all 27 member states. This was genuinely a team effort. First of all, thank you so much to Ignacio López del Moral for being the best partner (and friend) I could have for this job, your regulatory judgment and persistence were essential to getting us across the line. And thank you so much to all of our teams in general, as they all worked hard to make this into a reality: Alberto García Planes Yesica Gheno Manuel Alvarez Veronica Altimari Penelope Cline Rodri Fernández Touza Last but not least, I want to highligt finReg360 work: the team led by Mariona Pericas Estrada has been an excellent regulatory counsel throughout, helping us navigate both the CNMV and Banco de España processes in parallel. - Text-onlyI was on a call with a business owner last week who is curious about employee ownership as an exit strategy, but not yet convinced. The reality is that only a small portion of the folks we talk to come to us already all in on employee ownership, whereas most of the folks we work with like the concept of an exit through employee ownership "in theory", but are still uncertain about what that actually means for them and their team, how it stacks up against other sale strategies, and how it actually works. In these cases, the number one thing we recommend is to make sure you understand what an employee ownership exit would look like for you as early as possible. At best, you'll find a more aligned exit strategy that can meet your goals as a seller while setting up your team and company for long term success (and save time and money on the sale process), and at worst, you can head into a competitive process with a "bird in hand" by adding employee ownership as another buyer at the table.Common TrustRecorded 14 Sept 2026
- Text-onlyI was speaking with a business owner considering an EOT buyout the other week, and one of the questions I got was "How involved do owners stay after the transition?" The answer? This is totally flexible and depends on what you want. This is part of what makes EOT buyouts so attractive to legacy-minded owners who've been in the driver's seat for a decade (or several). Some folks are ready to get out and enjoy a well-earned retirement, whereas others may simply want to establish a clear pathway out, but transition more of the daily responsibilities to their leadership team while staying involved in governance and major decisions. Here are two examples: in one case, we worked with a business owner who'd already promoted a new CEO from within his team, and needed a financial strategy to get liquidity. In another case, we worked with a CEO who wanted to double down on the business, but had other shareholders who were ready to sell, so needed a pathway to get them liquidity without handing over control to a third party. Pursuing an employee ownership buyout gives you a lot of optionality over your transition, so when we work with business owners, we always start with the goals for your transition. There's no predetermined formula here, so we can design the transition timeline and your ongoing role around what works for you, your team and the company.Common TrustRecorded 14 Sept 2026

The best part of my job is helping individuals and families make thoughtful financial decisions typically starting with their company equity — the part of their financial life that creates both the most opportunity and the most questions. I’m grateful for the trust my clients put in myself and my team, and for being included on the 2025 Forbes Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors Best-In-State list is a reflection of that work. Almost 5 years after helping launch Compound as the first advisor, my team has grown to ~$420M in AUM (adding ~$85M in the last 6 months) and our firm has surpassed $4B in AUM, with lots of momentum ahead. The Compound Dashboard is our "one source of truth" that tracks investments, taxes, equity, and more in one place — and helps me model different scenarios to see how equity decisions affect a clients overall plan. That focus on solving real client challenges is what makes this recognition possible. And none of it happens without the team I get to work alongside every day. https://lnkd.in/gkNYzwnU
