Stop the AP Leak: a letter to every leader who’s tired of counting drops There’s a moment in every finance leader’s month when the numbers go quiet. Not because the work is done, but because it is stuck - in an inbox, in a spreadsheet, in the space between “sent” and “approved”. We put together Stop the AP Leak for that moment. Because the leak is not a metaphor; it’s money. It’s hours. It’s trust. Processing paper-based invoices still costs up to $30 each, and that’s before you count the rework at month-end, the lost early-payment leverage. In a year where business email compromise stripped nearly $84 million from Australian organisations, the cost of “we’ll get to it” is not just operational, it’s existential. Finance does not exist to push paper; it exists to protect and propel the business. The good news? The tide is turning. Within the next few years, 80% of routine AP tasks will be automated. From keying data to curating exceptions. From chasing signatures to shaping strategy. From patchwork systems to one, unified flow that validates, routes, flags and proves - end-to-end. If you’re ready to lead a function that is calm under pressure, clear in its numbers and confident in its controls, start here. Anyone who's worked with me knows I have strong opinions. Which is probably why, nearly eight years ago, I joined a business with a stubborn belief of its own: moving money around the world shouldn't be this hard. A lot has changed since. New products. New markets. A merger that brought two companies together. And today, one name to carry it all forward. Equals. The idea behind it is simple. When payments get complicated, be the answer. One connection, all the answers. Across payments, accounts, cards and FX. It's also why bringing Equals Money and Railsr together matters so much to me. Businesses don't just use our platform to move their own money. They use it to build and embed financial services for their customers. Cross-border payments and embedded finance, in one place. I've had a front-row seat for much of this story, and the video below captures nearly two decades of it. I can't wait to see what we answer next.
- EqualsSince 1 Jun 2026
It's an exciting week as Equals Money and Railsr have officially come together as Equals . One brand. One vision. One platform for businesses navigating complex global payments. From a sales perspective, the story is now so much clearer. We're offering payments, accounts, cards, FX and more through a single connection, backed by real scale: £59bn+ annual transaction volume 50,000+ businesses 30+ markets When you're in conversations with finance leaders and operators who are frustrated with how fragmented and opaque global payments can be, this is a genuinely compelling answer. It's been a journey, and we've not reached the final destination as there's an enormous opportunity ahead for Equals and its customers. https://lnkd.in/d_a8XbWp

In Central Europe, the biggest real estate opportunities often come from understanding what makes each market unique. Different regulatory environments, economic conditions and business cultures can create very distinct opportunities from one market to the next. Navigating this complexity requires a partner with deep local expertise and a regional perspective. For international investors and developers, that expertise can make the difference between simply accessing a market and truly understanding it. For more than 50 years, Erste Group has been helping clients navigate Central Europe's real estate landscape. We provide market insights, financing solutions, and access across multiple markets through a single point of contact. Today, we manage a commercial real estate financing portfolio of 30 billion euros and support transactions exceeding 5 billion euros annually. I look forward to meeting investors, developers, and industry peers at Expo Real to discuss market trends, emerging opportunities, and the factors shaping the future of real estate across the region. Delighted to have contributed, on behalf of EFG International, to the whitepaper “It’s Not the Bots, It’s the Jobs”, published by McKinsey & Company and Advance. The report explores how AI-driven workforce transformation could reshape work in Switzerland and how this may affect women and men differently – not because of the technology itself but because of the roles people hold today, the opportunities available to them tomorrow and the choices organisations make as work is redesigned. One of the report’s most important messages is that AI is primarily a story of workforce transformation rather than workforce replacement. As routine tasks become increasingly automated, organisations must focus on how they can equip people with the skills, confidence and support they need to thrive in an AI-enabled environment. At the same time, we must continue to value what technology cannot replace, such as building lasting relationships, inspiring trust, exercising sound judgement and showing empathy. This is especially relevant for private banking, where technology can enhance insight and efficiency but relationships remain at the heart of the client experience. One thing is clear: the impact of AI is not predetermined. Employers have a critical role to play in shaping how this transition unfolds. Thank you to Advance – Gender Equality in Business, Nina Probst and the team at McKinsey & Company for bringing leaders from across the Swiss business community together to contribute to this important and timely discussion. In the first months of this century, I was running IBM Global Small Business after my startup Whistle was acquired. One day, Marc Benioff walked in looking for a launch partner for his nascent company called Salesforce.com. After months of work, we were ready to sign the deal. On the very day we were supposed to sign, IBM’s CEO asked me to have “one last look” at Siebel’s product. I walked into that meeting, listened to their pitch, and then got pulled into a side room with Tom Siebel himself. He knew what was about to happen. He made his case, and let’s just say he made it clear he didn’t want me to sign with Salesforce. I signed anyway. That moment, and working with Marc, taught me two lessons that have stayed with me: - Have conviction about what will matter in the future - And make sure that conviction is non-consensus If everyone already agrees with you, it’s not conviction. It hasn’t been tested yet. I shared this story on the Yesterday Podcast with Sonith Sunku. Link to the full episode in the comments.

In recent weeks, I have been writing about why intellectual property is more than data in a spreadsheet. What sets companies apart is how their people think, decide, and operate. That human algorithm is the real competitive edge. There is also a larger issue at stake: the health of the startup ecosystem. McKinsey says the long-term potential of AI in corporate settings is $4.4 trillion in productivity gains from use cases across business functions. PwC estimates AI’s global economic impact may reach $15.7T by 2030. There’s no doubt the value exists. But who stands to capture it? When startups allow their processes and decision logic to seep into public models, they do more than weaken their own moat. They also strengthen the concentration of power in a few model providers. Without safeguards, most of it will accrue to a small set of incumbents. That is not a healthy ecosystem. The breakthroughs that drove the last generation of tech growth came from young companies building on their own IP: Stripe in payments, Salesforce in enterprise software, Zoom in collaboration. If we want the next generation of leaders in enterprise AI, startups need to protect their customers’ IP while building the proprietary intelligence that defines their value. In the past, the lines were clear. AWS and Azure provided the infrastructure, and startups built differentiated applications on top. Today, large models blur that boundary. They are not just infrastructure but systems hungry to learn from behaviors at the application layer. Without balance, too much power consolidates in too few hands. Protecting IP is not only about preserving competitive advantage. It is about ensuring the startup economy remains diverse, innovative, and strong enough to push the industry forward.

#FintechLatAm

Four weeks on from Sibos, one message from our panel still stands out for me: The future of corporate banking will be defined by how we digitize trust. When I spoke with senior leaders from NAB, RBC Capital Markets and BNP Paribas, it was clear that Corporate Digital Identity (CDI) is becoming the foundation for something bigger. A world where data, compliance, and client insight come together to deliver consumer-class experiences in corporate banking. This isn’t about replacing people with technology. It’s about freeing them to focus on judgement, not paperwork, and building relationships grounded in transparency and trust. In my latest blog, I explore how CDI is reshaping client engagement, compliance, and collaboration across the industry. I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building at Equitybee - reason #1337 We are making the world a better place (for real!) 🌍 Several years ago, we funded an employee who needed $350K+ to exercise his stock options. He immigrated from India and was on the verge of losing his hard earned equity. He got funded via Equitybee His company went public Total return of his equity: over $4M He personally netted about $3M A life-changing outcome for him, and a great return for the investors who backed him. But the story didn’t end there. He used some of his proceeds to start a nonprofit in India that provides medical treatment for children in underserved communities. Because he was able to keep his equity, kids who otherwise wouldn’t have access to care are now getting the medical treatment they need. This is the ripple effect of Equitybee. This is why Equitybee exists. Proud of the team, proud of that employee we funded, and proud of the impact we’re creating.

When I think about the future of financial services, it's about who we serve – families saving for their future, young people navigating their first financial decisions and business owners fueling their local communities. In a recent article for American Banker, I explore how our industry can help build financial resilience by connecting learning to real opportunities. When people see progress, confidence grows. And with confidence, people can begin to see what’s truly possible for their future. That belief is at the heart of our Financial Futures program – we’re working alongside community partners to provide access to education and assets that help people build a resilient future. Whether it’s helping a family open their first savings account, championing a teen investment club or supporting local business owners through their next big step, we’re focused on turning education into empowerment. Through cross-sector collaboration, we're helping more people get on a path toward wealth-building – and that matters for all of us. https://lnkd.in/gGmswhtT

When Abhay asked me about the "biggest myth in enterprise-startup collaborations", I didn't have to think long. The myth is that it's a marriage made in heaven - two parties with aligned incentives, and things just fall into place. The reality is messier. And more human. What I've seen actually move the needle isn't the MOU, the pilot agreement, or even the product fit. It's whether there's someone on the enterprise side who has taken personal ownership of navigating the complexity - an innovation leader, a program manager, a champion who treats this like their problem, not a vendor relationship to be managed. When that person exists, the relationship compounds. When they don't, even the best pilots die quietly in some committee review. No one talks about this enough because it doesn't fit the clean narrative of "startups + enterprises = innovation." But if you're a founder trying to crack enterprise, ask yourself: do I have a champion inside, or just a contact? That one question has saved me more time than any pitch deck. From my conversation with Abhay Tandon, Innovation Leader, and Malahar Pinelli, VP & Country Leader, 7-Eleven GSC — at The Innovators and Disruptors Collective.

I had the chance to speak, listen, and exchange ideas with some incredible leaders at ProcureCon US Indirect West 2026. Over the past few days, a few themes kept surfacing across conversations with leaders from healthcare, pharma, manufacturing, finance, retail, and infrastructure. Here is what stayed with me. 1. Procurement is moving closer to the center of the business In large enterprises, procurement is no longer operating quietly in the background. Leaders like Karan Arora, Lindsey Kirchberg, Brian Peters and Eric Mott kept coming back to the same shift. Procurement is increasingly expected to shape decisions, not just execute them. When procurement is connected to strategy, technology investments, and transformation initiatives, the function starts to look very different. It stops acting like a cost center and starts acting like a coordination layer across the business. 2. Supplier ecosystems are becoming strategic assets Another theme that kept emerging was the growing importance of supplier relationships. Across discussions involving Aaron Michaels, Lawrence, Joseph Steen and Bernardo Del Hoyo, the conversation moved beyond contracts and negotiations. The real focus now is resilience. The strength of a supplier ecosystem often determines how quickly a company can respond to disruptions, supply shocks, or market changes. Procurement leaders are increasingly responsible for building and maintaining that resilience. 3. Technology and risk are reshaping the operating model Technology came up in nearly every discussion, but not in the way people often expect. Leaders like Kyle Peckens, Seth Dunn, Michael Wang and Zvjezdan Prole spoke about how digital tools and AI are beginning to reshape how procurement teams operate. At the same time, conversations with Christina Hernandez and Mark Darius Frank highlighted something equally important. As vendor ecosystems grow, so does the responsibility for managing third-party risk. Procurement increasingly sits at the center of that balance between opportunity and risk. 4. Sustainability is no longer a parallel conversation In manufacturing and pharma environments, procurement is also becoming central to sustainability efforts. Leaders like Mathew Daniel and Ana Talamas highlighted how sourcing decisions now directly influence environmental goals, operational resilience, and long-term supply strategies. Sustainability is no longer adjacent to procurement. It is becoming embedded within it. My biggest takeaway Procurement leaders today sit at the intersection of spend, suppliers, risk, technology, and sustainability. Very few functions have visibility across all five. Which makes me think the real shift ahead may not be inside procurement itself. It may be how the rest of the organization starts working with it.

In hospitality, the guest experience is everything—but it all starts with the people behind the scenes. When your team feels seen, supported, and empowered, that care ripples out to every guest interaction. But let’s be honest—tipping has changed. Not because we asked for it, but because guest behavior has evolved. Fewer people carry cash. Expectations around convenience are higher. And as leaders, it’s on us to make sure our teams aren’t the ones paying the price for that shift. ✨ That’s why digital tipping isn’t just a modern convenience—it’s a responsibility. I recently shared a video about how eTip is leading this shift the right way. What stood out to me? ✔️ Tips go directly to the employee ✔️ Multiple payout options (including Venmo, PayPal, and their own eTip debit card—for those without traditional banking) ✔️ On-demand access through their employee app for real transparency But what impressed me most? It’s built for the team first. Not just as a payment tool—but as a way to reinforce dignity, trust, and fairness in the workplace. 📩 Curious how it could work at your property?
