📡 Private 5G Explained #4: How Private 5G and Wi-Fi Work Together Most enterprise environments support very different devices and workloads. An AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) moving through a warehouse does not have the same connectivity needs as a guest laptop in a meeting room. Cameras, sensors, field teams, office devices, and visitors each place different demands on the network. 📍 This is why Private 5G and Wi-Fi can be more valuable together. Private 5G is well suited to operational workloads that benefit from mobility, wide-area coverage, traffic control, and predictable performance. Wi-Fi provides familiar indoor access, broad device compatibility, and high-capacity connectivity for everyday users. When both connect to the same enterprise applications, edge infrastructure, and security environment, organizations can match each workload with the technology that fits it best. The result is a more complete connectivity layer designed around how the enterprise actually operates. #Private5G #WiFi #EnterpriseConnectivity #IndustrialConnectivity #WirelessNetworks

A device’s useful life isn’t determined by hardware condition alone. Software is increasingly part of the equation too. India’s consumer regulator is investigating Apple’s software warranty terms after complaints that an iOS 18 update caused display and microphone issues on some iPhones, leaving users facing significant repair costs. Apple disputes the allegations, says it found no systemic issue, and no finding of liability has been made. The wider industry question is where responsibility sits when software and hardware problems become difficult to separate. For manufacturers, retailers, repair providers, insurers and recommerce businesses, that can affect warranty decisions, repair costs and whether a device still makes economic sense to keep in use. As devices become more software-dependent, lifecycle decisions increasingly need to account for more than physical condition alone. Software support, warranty responsibility and repair economics are becoming part of the same conversation. #DeviceLifecycle #RepairEconomics #ConsumerTechnology #CircularTechnology
- ADAPT Global LimitedSince 20 Oct 2026
For a long time, repair and refurbishment were discussed mainly through a sustainability lens. IFA 2026 showed how much broader that conversation has become. Repair, refurbishment and longer product lifecycles were being discussed alongside after-sales, customer retention, spare-parts availability, unit economics and business models that can actually scale. The commercial side of circularity is becoming much harder to separate from the environmental one. Keeping products in use for longer only works at scale when the model also retains value, works operationally and makes financial sense. For manufacturers, retailers, operators and service partners, the conversation is moving beyond the question of whether products should stay in use for longer. The more useful question is how the systems behind that next stage of the lifecycle are designed to work. That is when circularity becomes part of the business model, rather than something that sits alongside it. At ADAPT, we’re especially interested in how circularity can work commercially, operationally and at scale. #CircularBusiness #DeviceLifecycle #ConsumerTechnology #CircularTechnology

🔬 What does fluorescence really tell us about molecular structure? Fluorescence experiments give us valuable insights into biomolecular interactions and dynamics. But turning photon signals into reliable structural information is far from straightforward. A recent review by Thomas-Otavio Peulen et al. explores why the behavior of fluorescent dyes matters, how molecular models help interpret measurements, and why combining complementary observables can make a difference. In our latest newsletter, we take a closer look at these insights and the role of methods such as FRET, FCS, fluorescence lifetime measurements, and anisotropy in quantitative fluorescence research. 👇 Read the newsletter to explore how we can move from photons to molecular structures. #Fluorescence #SingleMolecule #FRET #FCS #Biophysics

Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) remains an important measure of data center energy efficiency, but it no longer tells the full story as AI computing expands. In a recent Forbes byline, I discussed how AI data centers must adapt to rapidly evolving hardware, move heat efficiently from chips to the outside environment and operate within increasingly tight power and water constraints. In this context, efficiency is increasingly about how much of the available power can be directed toward AI computing. At LG Electronics, we are exploring several ways to address this challenge – from reducing cooling energy consumption to recovering waste heat and managing energy more efficiently across the data center. Refrigerant-based free cooling is one approach. When outdoor temperatures are favorable, circulating refrigerant can remove server heat with minimal compressor use, leaving more power available for GPUs and AI workloads. LG’s internal simulations indicate that this approach can reduce annual energy consumption by approximately 30% compared with waterside free cooling, while also reducing freezing risk and the need to manage glycol concentration. Waste heat recovery is another opportunity. Rather than releasing data center heat into the outdoor environment, we are exploring waste heat recovery heat pumps and hybrid absorption chillers that can put low-temperature heat to productive use. Applications include on-site heating and hot water, as well as district heating and process heat for nearby buildings and industrial facilities. Integrated control is equally important. As AI data centers grow more complex, optimizing individual pieces of cooling equipment is no longer enough. Chillers, coolant distribution units (CDUs) and fan wall units (FWUs) need to operate as a coordinated system. LG’s Data Center Cooling Manager (DCCM) uses digital twin technology to monitor cooling infrastructure, predict operating conditions and automatically adjust controls. In LG’s testing, this approach delivered energy savings of up to 40%. Coordinated control of CDUs and FWUs also increased the CDU load factor from 65% to as high as 80%. LG’s portfolio spans chillers, CDUs, FWUs, heat pumps and energy management solutions. By bringing these technologies together, we aim to improve energy management across the entire data center rather than optimizing components in isolation. As power, water and space become increasingly constrained, the key question is how much computing performance a data center can deliver with the resources it has. Cooling can make a meaningful difference — not only by reducing its own energy consumption, but also by making more power available for AI computing. As AI infrastructure scales, assessing data center efficiency requires looking beyond Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). In a recent Forbes byline, LG Electronics CEO Jae-cheol Lyu examined what efficiency means in the AI era, highlighting the need to adapt to evolving AI hardware, manage heat transfer efficiently and operate within regional power, water and climate constraints. In his LinkedIn post, he outlined three approaches LG is exploring to improve cooling efficiency and energy management across AI data centers. ① Refrigerant-based free cooling LG’s internal simulations indicate that refrigerant-based free cooling can reduce annual energy consumption by approximately 30% compared with waterside free cooling. It can also reduce freezing risks and the need to manage glycol concentration. ② Waste heat recovery LG is exploring waste heat recovery heat pumps and hybrid absorption chillers that can put low-temperature data center heat to use for on-site heating and hot water, as well as district heating and process heat for nearby facilities. ③ Integrated cooling control LG’s Data Center Cooling Manager (DCCM) uses digital twin technology to monitor cooling infrastructure, predict operating conditions and adjust controls. In LG’s testing, this approach delivered energy savings of up to 40%. Coordinated control of coolant distribution units (CDUs) and fan wall units (FWUs) also improved the CDU load factor from 65% to as high as 80%. With a portfolio spanning chillers, CDUs, FWUs, heat pumps and energy management solutions, LG is developing integrated cooling solutions to help data centers make more effective use of available power. As AI workloads grow, coordinating computing equipment, power infrastructure and cooling systems will be increasingly important to delivering computing performance within resource constraints. https://lnkd.in/gx56C7UQ #LGElectronics #AIDataCenter #DataCenterCooling #LiquidCooling Forbes Technology Council
