🌍 New Paper | Virtual Sensing of Equivalent Black Carbon in the Context of Urban Automatic Monitoring Sensor Networks How can urban monitoring networks estimate black carbon when direct measurements are unavailable? This study explores machine-learning models using routinely measured air-quality parameters to estimate equivalent black carbon in Belgrade. The models showed strong performance during the heating season and promising potential for application across existing monitoring networks. Authors are: Milos Davidovic, Milena Davidovic, Danka B. 👏 Check out our #highlycited paper: Place Attachment and Related Aspects in the Urban Setting, written by: Asal Kamani Fard and Mohammad Paydar 📜 This review analyzed more than 100 peer-reviewed studies on place attachment in urban environments, identifying six key themes related to wellbeing, environmental characteristics, social interaction, civic engagement, aging, and neighborhood walkability. The findings show that place attachment enhances wellbeing and community resilience, while highlighting research gaps that should be addressed to better support the development of sustainable urban environments. #placeattachment #wellbeing #greenlandscape #walkability 👉 https://lnkd.in/dr-FSK9n

📢 We are pleased to highlight the first published paper in the Special Issue “Behaviorally Informed Modeling and Simulation for Urban Disaster Response, Sheltering, and Resilience” This study introduces a novel candidate-free facility location framework for emergency repair station siting in urban gas pipeline networks under stochastic traffic and road resistance conditions. Unlike traditional models that rely on fixed candidate sites and deterministic travel times, the proposed approach captures real-world uncertainty in emergency response dynamics. Using a hybrid greedy–Monte Carlo optimization strategy, the model jointly balances response time, coverage reliability, and infrastructure cost. A large-scale case study demonstrates robust performance across 20,000 stochastic scenarios, achieving 97.77% average service coverage within response-time thresholds and revealing diminishing returns as station numbers increase. 📌 Feel free to read the paper, and contribute to the Special Issue with your own research: https://lnkd.in/dyHHcnUj #emergencyrepairstation #stochasticroadresistance #improvedgreedyalgorithm

🚀 Highly Cited Paper Spotlight Contribution of the Cultural and Creative Industries to Regional Development and Revitalization: A European Perspective, written by: Dimitrios Kalfas, Stavros Kalogiannidis, Vasilios Ambas and Fotios Chatzitheodoridis from University of Western Macedonia https://lnkd.in/d5vgE_kF Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) are emerging as powerful engines of regional growth across Europe, driving job creation, GDP growth, innovation, and social cohesion. Drawing on empirical evidence from Greece, this highly cited study shows that CCIs not only strengthen cultural identity and urban regeneration but also play a vital role in revitalizing declining regions and fostering sustainable, inclusive development. #SocialCohesion #CulturalIdentity #UrbanRegeneration #RegionalDevelopment #UrbanDevelopment
