When Samuel Spencer from Aristotle Metadata said he wanted to be in our LinkedIn ads... we figured we better deliver. 🚜💨 Funds approved. Funds deployed. Same day energy. Holy moly, indeed. 🤩 We've just deployed $400k in debt funding to Aristotle Metadata - a Canberra-based startup helping organisations actually make sense of their data. Thrilled to back Sam and the team as they scale their data governance platform globally (this is what fast, founder-friendly funding looks like 🙂). They're already working with the NSW Government, Services Australia, and enterprise clients across Europe. Now they're scaling their global partner network, and we're stoked to be fuelling that growth. 🌏🚀

"We normally work through things methodically... except for this. I don't know what it was. Whoever does your marketing, I just went 'Jem, we need to do this.'" (shout out to our marketing guy, Dan 👋) Last week I sat down with Sally Murphy, one of the two amazing Co-founders from Purple Playground (alongside Jemma Eaton) - and learnt more about their growth story to date! Their story made me smile 💜 These two have been bootstrapped since day one, building something steady for seven years without any external finance. So what changed? They'd been following Tractor for a while (cue warm fuzzy feelings on our end 🚜) and loved what we do in the startup ecosystem. They felt aligned with how we help founders build something dependable, but always assumed we were only for tech companies. Then something shifted. They were doing their 2026 planning with a new HR membership service about to launch and goals being reset. One of our emails landed at exactly the right moment and Sally interrupted Jem's workday to say: "What have we got to lose? Let's try." No lengthy deliberation. Just pure instinct. The reminder here? Trust yourself. These founders know their business inside out, and when something felt right, they backed themselves on it. I love that. I think there's real power in listening to your gut when you've done the groundwork and you know your business well. Sometimes the right opportunity just clicks ✨ P.S. Their application moved fast. Really fast - and now they've got the funding runway to launch that fourth service offering into 2026.

Something we chat about with founders all the time: Dilution is permanent. And the need for funding is often only temporary. If you're thinking about raising capital in 2026, please don't make these three mistakes 🙏 We talk to founders every week. These are the patterns we see over and over again. #1 Mistake: Selling shares for short-term cash needs You've got a gap… (maybe 3 to 12 months). You need to bridge between new customer sales or another equity raise… so you go out and try to sell shares. You may believe this is the right answer, and in some cases, it may be… but more often than not, it actually isn’t the best course of action. That short-term working capital requirement doesn't need permanent dilution. Look at: Lines of credit, Revenue-based financing, Short-term loans, R&D finance, even customer deposits… All of these will fix a short-term gap without giving away ownership you'll never get back. → #2 Mistake: Leaving it too late If you're planning out 2026, plan it now. With time. An equity round takes at least six months. Thinking through what type of capital you actually need for what purpose? That takes time too. Is it a short-term requirement? Sales and marketing investment? Probably debt. Is it longer-term? New markets, new experiments? That's equity risk. Figure this out before you're desperate 🙂 → #3 Mistake: Not doing the maths on debt vs equity We hear it all the time. "Oh, that's expensive. I don't wanna pay that interest rate." Run the numbers though. If it's the right type of investment to bring in extra revenue and increase your valuation, debt is very inexpensive compared to selling equity. Equity will cost a lot more over time. A lot more. It's good to have a mix (in fact, we love equity at the right time for a business - we love providing debt funding for equity-backed businesses). Just know what sort of capital you need for what purpose, and what the true cost of all capital actually is. —-------------- If you’re doing $50k+ in monthly revenue (whether you’re profitable or not), DM me and I’ll get our team to run a free assessment so you can see exactly how a fixed‑rate facility would fit your growth plans. It's now December and inevitably we start thinking about the year that was and planning for the year ahead 🎄 I'm curious - are you reflecting on the capital decisions you made this year? Did you bring in new external capital? And if you could have, what would you have used it for? I was chatting to one of our portfolio companies last week and the conversation stuck with me. They took a $200,000 loan from us and also tapped into our perks program, which gave them $100,000 in AWS credits on top of the loan. When you do the maths, the cost of capital was effectively zero. 😮 Plus all the other stuff he wasn't expecting - discounts on his tech stack, growth partners, a peer network of other founders going through the same things. It got me thinking about how we often look at capital as just... money. When really it's worth considering all the different benefits and costs that come with each type. So if you're planning out Q1 2026, what might you need capital for? → Hiring that key sales or marketing person you've been putting off → Bridging to your next equity round without giving away shares → Investing in product development or new features → Scaling up paid acquisition now you've got the unit economics working → Building out the team to handle customer demand → Taking advantage of R&D tax incentives you haven't claimed yet → Just having some breathing room so you're not making decisions from a place of stress Worth having a think about it now while there's still time to plan properly, rather than scrambling in February 🙂 What would you do with some extra capital in 2026? —-------------- If you’re doing $50k+ in monthly revenue (whether you’re profitable or not), DM me and I’ll get our team to run a free assessment so you can see exactly how a fixed‑rate facility would fit your growth plans. Or if you’ve simply got questions, just connect and DM me. :) Tractor Ventures

Quick question: Does Christmas coming up make you excited or stressed? For me? Honestly, it's both. I've been running businesses for over 20years, and December always brings this particular kind of tension. I love Christmas. The break, the time with family, the actual joy of it all. That part's easy. The stressful part? Your business doesn't ‘actually’ stop. Payroll still happens. Bills still arrive, and things slow down. Sometimes customer payments take longer. Invoice follow-ups get those "I'll sort this in January" responses. Cash flow gets tighter when you can least afford it. Then suddenly, you're lying awake at 2am doing mental calculations instead of enjoying the break you've actually earned. I know this feeling intimately, and I see it every year with the founders we work with. That's why we're doing something different this Christmas 🎄: $50K in 48 hours – 😴✨ Sleep at Night funding Light touch assessment. Fast approval. Cash in your account before Christmas. No director's guarantees. No equity dilution. Just a buffer so you can actually relax over the break instead of stress-checking your bank balance. What you need: → Around $600k+ annual revenue → AU/NZ based (can have a=entities elsewhere) → Not drowning in debt (some is fine) The application takes 5 minutes and we review within 24-48 hours. Cash lands before you finish your shopping. Of course, having that extra buffer won't solve every problem, but it might help you actually enjoy Christmas with your family instead of worrying about January's cash flow. You've worked hard enough this year. Let's get you sorted 🎄 Learn more here! https://lnkd.in/gZ8rvCat Tractor Ventures

We're now 5 years old!! 🎂🎉 Five years of helping founders grow without giving away equity. Five years of preaching the tractor over rocket analogy (if you know, you know). Five years of focusing on how to build a lending business with great tech. Five years of making an impact in our ecosystem. Five years of having fun 🤩 It's been hard, no doubt… but I wouldn't have it any other way. When we started, the idea seemed kinda crazy 🙂 What if founders had actual funding options that didn't involve dilution or putting their house on the line? Fast forward to today: 250+ companies funded, and we're still just as obsessed with helping founders sleep better at night. So for our birthday (and because it's Christmas), we're doing something special... Get off Santa's naughty cash flow list 😈🎅 Sleigh your end-of-year cash crunch. Fuel up and actually chill out this December. Here's the deal: $50K in your account in 48 hours. We're reducing our mandate for a short period of time (faster than your last Zoom meeting about cash flow projections). Here's what you need: → Around $600k+ annual revenue → AU/NZ based → Not drowning in debt (some is fine, we get it) Here's what you get: → No director's guarantees → Zero equity dilution → Fast approval Look, December and January are brutal for founder cash flow. Suppliers close. Clients disappear with "let's reconnect in the new year." Bills don't stop. This is your 😴✨ sleep-at-night money for: → Covering payroll while everyone's at the beach → Locking in inventory before suppliers shut down → Actually paying yourself (revolutionary, I know) → Bridging that gap between "invoice sent" and "client returns from holidays" → Year-end team bonuses without the guilt spiral → BAS, GST, PAYG - all those fun December deadlines Five years in, we've learned one thing: the best time to sort your funding is before you desperately need it. Application takes 5 minutes. We review in 24-48 hours. Cash lands before you finish your Christmas shopping. Don't overthink this one 🎁 Learn more here! https://lnkd.in/gZ8rvCat
