Enterprise AI keeps stalling between pilot and production. The gap isn't in the models. We see it one layer down, in the data underneath them: scattered and ungoverned, shaped for people rather than agents. Closing the gap takes a new layer between your data and your AI, one that lets agents find, use, and trust that data where it already lives. The moat isn't the model. It's the data you can safely put in front of it. A few weeks ago TileDB became Tile.ai, and I stepped in as CEO to build that moat. I have watched this pattern repeat with Windows File Manager, Box, SharePoint — all of them. Day one, they were transformative. Down the road, they became unmanageable, and I was the CIO getting the angry phone calls. It is happening again. Enterprise applications that package AI models are proliferating, and every one of them is quietly creating another silo. The reflex is always to consolidate: pull everything into one place to make life easier. That wasn’t the case. I ran those projects. Each required months of data movement and sophisticated synchronization techniques before the real work could begin, and the data fragmentation quietly crept back. That is why "no byte moves" immediately resonated with me. Tile.ai meets your data exactly where it lives, making it AI-ready while keeping security and governance intact. That got my attention. What enterprises expect from AI and what they are actually getting are two different things. The gap is in the data. With AI models commoditizing, enterprise AI success increasingly depends on how usable and reachable the underlying data is. Getting there takes orchestration and governance across the whole landscape, from a simple table to the most complex scientific data. Our CEO explains: https://hubs.la/Q04yWG0Z0

TileDB is now Tile.ai, and I'm stepping in as CEO. After 33 years in enterprise IT, I came out of retirement to solve one of my biggest headaches. Every technology cycle promised to fix it. ERP gave us ground truth. E-commerce gave us data interchange. The cloud told us to be elastic. We assembled our data into lakes, and the lakes became swamps. Every promise hit against the same wall: the friction, cost, and complexity of making data actionable across fragmented systems. As CIO at Merck and then Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., I kicked that work down the road every time, incurring perpetual technology debt. We’re seeing the exact same pattern with AI. Models are fast becoming commodities; an enterprise’s competitive edge now depends entirely on how accessible and actionable its data is. That’s a sizable gap. Bridging that gap is precisely why I took this role. We are creating the Enterprise AI Data Substrate—a unified layer that makes all enterprise data ready for AI, wherever it lives. Building on the nine-year foundation laid by our founder and Chief Product Officer, Stavros Papadopoulos, I am thrilled to join him in solving this challenge. Amgen Ventures and Two Bear Capital are backing the transition, and I'm grateful for their confidence as we get to work. Read our announcement 👇 https://lnkd.in/gJRxXhr3

Today TileDB becomes tile.ai, and I'm going back to founder mode. Heads-down on product and vision, rebuilding — in many ways from scratch — for a moment that demands it. It's the part of the job I love most, and the part I'm most needed for right now. Here's what changed. For nine years, customers asked us to make their most complex data faster. Over the last two years, the question flipped: make my data usable by AI — safely, where it already lives, without losing control. That isn't a feature you bolt on. It's a company you reshape around it. I couldn't go back to building without the right person to run the company. I've worked alongside George Llado for two years and watched him operate up close. As a longtime life-sciences CIO, he's lived this exact problem from the other side, in some of the most regulated environments there are. George embracing this vision and taking the CEO role is one of the highlights of my career. Welcome, George. Tile.ai is in private preview, built shoulder-to-shoulder with a small group of design partners who live this problem every day. This next chapter starts with real conviction behind it: Amgen Ventures and Two Bear Capital are backing the transition. When a leader in one of the most demanding, regulated industries there is decides to invest — and partners who've known us for years double down — it tells me we're onto something that matters. Thank you both. 🙏 Same belief I started with. Much bigger stakes. For the first time, the whole industry is asking the question we spent a decade preparing to answer. Read what's new in comments 👇
