Indemnity insurance might not be the most exciting topic… but it’s essential. Whether you're working in community, hospital, or general practice, having your own indemnity insurance isn't just a formality, it's your professional safety net. Below are our quick tips for choosing indemnity insurance that will protect your interests: 💊 Pick pharmacist-specific providers - they understand your risks better. ⚙️ Indemnity cover should not depend on your employer - contingent schemes aren’t reliable when there’s a dispute. 🧩 Match your role - ensure cover fits your practice setting (community, hospital, PCN) and scope of practice. 👀 Look for extras - risk support, legal advice, and training are valuable add-ons. 📝 Approach to claims handling - direct, pharmacist-aware support is ideal. ❤️ Union benefits - additional assistance when needed on employment matters. ☂️ Know what’s covered - make sure the services you provide are covered. 📈 Value over price - cheapest isn’t always best, check what’s included to protect your interests. 🔄 Keep it updated- notify changes in your role to stay covered. Whether you're dispensing, diagnosing, prescribing, giving clinical advice, or reviewing patient records, things can go wrong. And if they do, you’ll need your own expert professional safety net. Below are our top tips for choosing indemnity insurance that will protect your interests: 💊 Check for pharmacist-specific expertise The PDA understands pharmacy - dispensing risks, clinical services, and regulatory requirements. A generic indemnity insurer may lack the specialist pharmacy knowledge. ☂️ Ensure appropriate cover for your role The PDA protects you across the scope of your practice, whether you're working in general practice, hospital or community. 🦺 Look for risk management support The PDA provides support, training, and advice to help you manage the risks of your practice. This is especially useful for newly qualified or transitioning pharmacists. 📝 Ask about claims handling The PDA directly handles incidents and claims. Claims handled by lawyers and pharmacists with expertise across all areas of pharmacy can lead to better outcomes. ❤️ Consider union representation The PDA’s Independent trade union status enables support in employment disputes, NHS negotiations, and representation in hearings. The PDA provides all the protection you need to stay covered while working as a pharmacist. For more information and to join the PDA, visit www.the-pda.org/join We don’t bite. #Pharmacists, have you seen all of the benefits of joining the PDA? https://buff.ly/kmAhyhe

Your #pharmacy practice is increasingly clinical but also more risk laden. Dealing with risk should not be a scary experience. Maintaining your indemnity protection is a condition of practice and a regulatory requirement – something that you declare annually to the regulator at renewal. However, if something goes wrong, relying upon your employer, or a contingent policy for your indemnity is unlikely to put you at the centre of the defence strategy. The PDA’s expertise is built on nearly 100,000 episodes of supporting #pharmacists, putting their needs and reputation at the very heart of the strategy of defence. We support members in often quite scary situations. More than 40,000 members already trust the PDA for its expertise and leadership. Have you joined yet? https://lnkd.in/g8W47ps Does your indemnity provider: ✅ Provide comprehensive cover – or is it just contingent and dependent on your employer’s cover? ✅ Protect you in the event of needlestick injury or violent attack while at work? ✅ Handle GPhC disciplinary hearings and will it take your side in a dispute with your employer? ✅ Have many years of experience of handling #pharmacist indemnity claims? ✅Have an in-house legal team of pharmacists and lawyers, or do they pass your claim to a generic medico-legal firm? Check the new benefits available from PDA - https://buff.ly/kmAhyhe or contact the PDA Member Support Centre via [email protected].
