The next phase of software growth depends on aligning monetization with measurable product value. Customers increasingly expect flexible packaging, transparent consumption, and costs that scale with outcomes. AI is accelerating this shift as token volumes, variable workloads, and hybrid deployments expose the limits of fixed subscriptions. Product managers must define value metrics, packaging rules, and guardrails that work across segments and remain viable as usage changes. For product organizations, usage-based pricing must be treated as a product capability, not simply a commercial model. The value metric may be AI tokens, API calls, transactions, compute time, storage, feature consumption, or another unit customers understand, and teams can measure consistently. The harder challenge is building reliable monetization infrastructure. A production-ready system must capture billable events, normalize data from multiple sources, apply aggregation and rating rules, enforce entitlements, and send auditable results to invoicing and revenue systems. It must also support cloud, on-premises, embedded, and intermittently connected environments without inconsistent records. On November 19, 2026, we’re hosting a virtual Usage Growth Summit that will bring together product, pricing, monetization, and industry experts to examine these challenges from strategy through implementation. We’ll explore emerging models, the architecture required to operationalize them, AI’s impact on monetization, and how consumption data can support billing, product analytics, customer success, and growth. Expect practical examples, cross-functional perspectives, and time for technical and operational questions. Usage-based growth is already on the product agenda. The critical question is whether your architecture, data quality, controls, and customer experience are ready to support it at scale. I hope you’ll join us. Register here: https://lnkd.in/g_QmUKrw

The new wave of software growth is coming from a most pressing customer requirement: pricing based on value. For software, this means usage-based, otherwise known as consumption-based pricing. I’m not just talking about AI tokens – I’m talking about any software these days, with a variety of payment options like PAYG or postpaid. Usage-based pricing has moved from trial to strategy. Customers increasingly expect flexibility, transparency, and the ability to scale spending with outcomes. AI is accelerating that shift: token consumption, variable workloads, and hybrid deployments are making static packaging, such as a monthly recurring subscription, harder to defend. But changing the pricing metric is the easy part. The real challenge is the infrastructure to support it. Many software vendors think billing is enough - until they realize it’s not. Companies that succeed will treat ingestion, mediation, metering, entitlements, and billing as part of one trusted system. They also allow for cloud, on-premises, in-device, and even offline deployments. And (very important) - they’ll set it all up to avoid bill shock. What’s more – the same usage data can be harnessed to increase sales, prevent churn, plan roadmaps and assess future pricing. On November 19, 2026, we’re bringing together pricing, product, monetization and industry experts for the virtual Usage Growth Summit to talk about exactly these issues. Because usage-based growth is clearly on the agenda. The more important question is whether the infrastructure, data, and customer experience are ready for it. I hope you’ll join us!
