The biggest advantage in investment banking recruiting might just be having one older friend in banking. Not because they’re going to get you the job. It’s because when you’re wondering whether you should follow up, whether a firm is already interviewing, whether your answer is too long, or whether you’re behind, you can text someone who actually knows. Those seem like small things, but recruiting is basically hundreds of small decisions made over several months. At schools with established banking pipelines, students often have that person without even thinking about it: an older student in their club, someone from their fraternity, or a recent graduate who went through recruiting a couple years before them. A lot of students don’t. That’s probably the simplest explanation for why we built StreetSmart's mentorship network. We wanted to give students access to the person they otherwise would’ve needed to get lucky enough to know. Today, that means working 1:1 with mentors from firms like Moelis, UBS, Carlyle, and Bank of America. If you’re recruiting for IB and want that kind of 1:1 support, you can learn more about working with one of our mentors here: https://lnkd.in/gGcUaa5u
