🛰️ SpaceKnow Guardian detects vessels on radar imagery whether or not they transmit AIS, so switching off the transponder doesn’t hide a ship. Guardian compares every vessel it detects in the image with the AIS positions reported at that moment. A ship that shows up on radar without a matching AIS signal becomes a dark ship candidate for an analyst to review. The example here is the anchorage off Ust-Luga, Russia’s largest Baltic port, where Guardian has been monitoring congestion of cargo ships and tankers since late August. On the morning image of October 3, Guardian counted 14 vessels transmitting AIS and 33 without a signal. On evening images the numbers reverse. On October 21, it was 41 with AIS and 5 without. AIS data show the ships at anchor switching off their transponders around 20:00 Moscow time and back on around 08:00, or around 10:00 during periods of higher threat. The port has been hit by Ukrainian drones repeatedly this year, and going dark at night is most likely a precaution against strikes. Radar images the sea at night and through cloud, so ships stay visible with their transponders off. Repeated over weeks, the counts show the pattern of life of the whole anchorage. #GEOINT #IMINT #MDA #MaritimeSecurity #DarkShipping #BalticSea

🛰️ SpaceKnow Guardian doesn't just analyze satellite imagery, it is also where you order it, from multiple optical and radar providers. A satellite operator sells access to its own satellites. If you need a radar image from one and a sharp optical image from another, that is two orders, and two images you still have to get into your analysis. In Guardian it is one order. The one in the video holds a radar image and five optical images from four different providers. So you choose imagery by what the task needs: radar when cloud is in the way, high resolution when something has to be identified. And your analysis does not depend on any single constellation.

🛰️ SpaceKnow Guardian doesn't just detect aircraft and ships — it classifies objects down to a specific model, including land equipment. Guardian's AI algorithms automatically extract structured information from complex raw imagery — detecting and classifying vehicles, machinery, and equipment across any monitored area. What would take an analyst hours of manual review, the platform surfaces in seconds. The example here is Yeysk airbase. Guardian's land equipment algorithm detected several trucks on the apron, positioned next to a destroyed Be-200 aircraft still visible after a strike. On their own, trucks are routine. Next to a damaged asset, their presence is a signal — recovery, salvage, or repositioning activity worth watching. That's the value: not just seeing objects, but classifying them, counting them, and turning them into intelligence you can act on. Automatically. Continuously. Across any sensor, any provider, any orbit.

🛰️ SpaceKnow Guardian turns imagery from different satellites, sensors and resolutions into one continuous read of a single site. No single source does the whole job. Radar sees through clouds and darkness but can't tell you what a ship is. High-resolution optical identifies it precisely but is too expensive to run every week. Free wide-area imagery covers everything and resolves almost nothing. Guardian runs the same detection models across all of them. A coarse radar image showing that something arrived and a sharp optical image identifying what it is aren't two separate analyses — they're two points on the same timeline, at the same berth. So you keep watching on whatever imagery is available and affordable, and reach for detail only on the dates that need it. The imperfect sources do the watching. The expensive ones do the confirming. That's the difference between having access to satellite imagery and having an answer.
