Does Europe really need its own Google? 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eH5ZjfHj Soverin CTO Andre Meij argues that we may be asking the wrong question. As concerns around digital sovereignty grow, so does the call for European alternatives to dominant global tech platforms. But replacing one technology giant with another doesn’t solve the fundamental problem; it simply changes who holds the power. What if Europe’s greatest strength isn’t building the next hyperscaler, but creating an ecosystem where no single provider becomes indispensable? In his latest article, André explores a different path toward digital sovereignty: → Open standards instead of proprietary ecosystems → Easy migration instead of vendor lock-in → Interoperability instead of isolation → Federation instead of centralisation Europe has a strong track record of creating standards that enable competition and innovation. Perhaps that same approach can provide a blueprint for a more resilient and sovereign digital future. What do you think: does Europe need its own Big Tech champion? Or, should we be building something fundamentally different? 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eH5ZjfHj #DigitalSovereignty #OpenStandards #Interoperability #CloudComputing #Cloud #AI #Europe #DigitalTransformation #Technology #Innovation #CloudFest

For many organisations, digital sovereignty still sounds like one enormous migration project. Move the email. Move the files. Replace the tools. Retrain everyone. Hope nothing breaks. But your Plan B does not have to begin with a Big Tech break-up: https://lnkd.in/eaggwBPF So what if the first step is not a migration at all? What if you start with a mirror instead? The idea is straightforward. A shadow environment runs independently alongside your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. Your teams keep working as usual, while critical email and files are synchronised into a sovereign environment that is current, tested and ready when needed. Rik Dekker recently tested how this works in practice, running Soverin and Nextcloud alongside an existing Microsoft 365 environment. His biggest takeaway was not about the technology. It was realising that switching does not have to be one big, scary event. Because digital sovereignty is not about running away from the tools you use today. It is about making sure you have a choice tomorrow. Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/eaggwBPF #Soverin #DigitalSovereignty #BusinessContinuity #Nextcloud #Email

Dutch municipalities are already moving. Haarlem, Venlo, Nijmegen, all executing hybrid cloud strategies today, because they've accepted a basic truth: not all data belongs in a public cloud, and not all vendors belong in your critical infrastructure. Computable's latest e-magazine makes it concrete. VNG's Jacco Brouwer puts it plainly: the obligation to organise digital public services independently stands regardless of geopolitical shifts. That's not a political statement. That's governance. And it applies equally to email. Your organisation's mail flows carry sensitive data, legal obligations, and business-critical communication. If your email infrastructure sits with a US-headquartered provider, the CLOUD Act means US authorities can demand access without your knowledge, without a Dutch court order. That's not a risk you can GDPR your way out of. The Computable piece also flags the pragmatic middle ground: you don't need to move everything at once. What you do need is a clear exit strategy for your most critical infrastructure — and the ability to act when the situation demands it. Organisations can start now: create synchronised backups of mail data, make in- and outbound mail flows sovereign, and reduce dependence on a single provider, without waiting for a full alternative to mature. Digital autonomy isn't a future project. It's an operational decision you can make this quarter. Vrije keuze klinkt mooi.
