Most institutions preparing for AMLR are still treating it as a legal question. They map the articles against their current policies. They brief the board on the timeline. They wait for the RTS drafts to be final. And nobody has decided who owns the data work. Because that is where it actually lands. The AML Officer owns the framework, the internal policies and the risk analysis behind them. Risk owns the methodology and the evidence a supervisor will ask for. Operations owns data quality, turnaround times and Re-KYC. In most institutions, those three sit at separate tables, and the gaps between them only become visible when someone has to produce a number on short notice. On October 28 at 11am CET, Niko I. from Deloitte and I will spend 60 minutes on exactly this: what the regulation changes for each of those roles, which approaches have held up in preparation so far, and how two real projects played out, one from Deloitte and one from Sinpex, including the parts that did not go to plan. Designed for AML Officers, Heads of Risk and Heads of Operations at banks and payment service providers, plus anyone shaping their AMLR preparation right now. Register via the link in the comments.

Most compliance teams measure their assessments by effort. Auditors measure them by reproducibility. That gap is where hard audits begin. A decision is only as strong as your ability to reproduce it: the same case, measured against the same standard, produces the same verdict no matter who works it or when. If the same analyst might reach a different conclusion six months from now, the assessment was never standardised. It was improvised well. What we hear from banks and PSPs is that the scramble at audit is rarely about weak analysis. It is about reconstructing why a case was cleared, months later, from scattered notes and memory. The reasoning was sound. It just was not on the record. The teams that hold up have stopped relying on individual diligence and started encoding the institution's judgment once: one risk model applied to every case, a guided workflow, an audit trail that builds itself because every step records who assessed what, on which evidence. Analysts still decide the ambiguous cases. What changes is that the record can defend the decision without them in the room. Is reproducibility something your team can prove today, or only assume? #Compliance #KYB #AML
