Do you have a full understanding of your role towards the PPWR? A hybrid model is something I see most often, but most people don't expect that one company can have multiple roles. I always like to explain this with the jam producer example: Manufacturer → you make your own jam, your own brand, your own facility. Your name is on the packaging, so the declaration of conformity is yours to build and sign. Importer → You source jam from a supplier outside the EU and sell it under your own brand. Manufacturer's liability shifts to you, so you issue the DoC yourself. Same import scenario, but the product stays under the foreign manufacturer's brand. Now you only have to verify that a valid DoC exists. You don't issue one. Distributor → You resell a German jam brand without touching the packaging. No DoC to issue, but you're still responsible for checking the manufacturer's documentation is there and valid before it goes to market. One company. Three products. Three completely different obligations. A common misunderstanding I hear often: teams assume their PPWR role is fixed for the whole business. It's not as it's per product. Worth mapping this out per SKU before assuming you know where you stand.

Whenever I ask food & beverage compliance teams what's hardest about PPWR, I quite often get the same answer: the Declaration of Conformity. And I get why. But in every conversation I've had, the DoC itself is just one page. It's the long journey to get there that counts: SKU data → validation → technical dossier → conformity assessment → DoC PPWR applies as of today(!), and this is still the part I see teams underestimate most. Not the regulation itself, but pulling the right data together, validating it with suppliers, building the technical dossier, and making sure it holds up the moment an auditor or customer asks for it. That's the flow we built in Simvia, including issuing the DoC in every language you need. Here's a look at how that process comes together in practice 👇 Working in QA, Packaging, Sustainability or Compliance? Then this is worth three minutes of your time.

Happy Monday all! First PPWR deadlines passed last week, and most conversations still start with the Declaration of Conformity. That's exactly where I see PPWR being misunderstood the most. The DoC itself is one page. Getting there is the hard part: SKU-level material data, recyclability assessments, testing records, all validated and audit-ready. Quick gap check: if the DoC is easy to fill in, the documentation behind it was done right. If it's not, that's where to start. I broke this down in a recent webinar, showing exactly how to spot and close that gap. Click here for the replay: https://lnkd.in/ePXrJRGS

The real risk with PPWR is proving compliance, supplier certificates, substance test results, material breakdowns, all before next week (August 12th). The Simvia team put together a PPWR readiness checklist, so companies can see exactly where they stand before that deadline hits. You can view it here: https://lnkd.in/e-jvwm85 If you want the full walkthrough, the webinar recording is here: https://lnkd.in/ePXrJRGS
