Nearly half of all screening alerts are still false positives, despite the use of AI. Our 2026 research found a mean false-positive rate of 46.8% across the UK, US, France and Germany, with Germany reaching 51.9%. AI was meant to solve this, so why does it persist? We surveyed 400 senior compliance and financial crime leaders to find out

Financial institutions plan to invest in AI far faster than they can deploy it. Our 2026 research found 79% plan to invest in AI for AML screening, but only 28% have it fully deployed. That’s a 51-point gap. We surveyed 400 senior compliance leaders across the UK, US, France and Germany to understand what’s standing between intent and impact.

Criminals aren’t waiting for a business case to be signed off before they put new technology to use. They can pick up a new AI tool the week it reaches the market. Regulated financial institutions, however, must go through extensive tests, approvals and deployment stages before any new system goes live to ensure system stability, protect consumers and maintain compliance with strict legal and industry standards. That difference in pace is one of the reasons AI-enabled crime is such a concern for our industry, and it’s something we set out to explore in new research from Ripjar. We asked 400 senior compliance, risk and financial crime decision makers across the UK, US, France and Germany how they are using AI in their AML screening. 84% told us they are concerned about AI-enabled financial crime, yet only 28% have fully deployed AI in their screening operations. The concern is clearly there, but the response hasn’t yet caught up with it. The report looks at what that gap means for customer screening, and at how firms can use AI to keep pace with criminals who are exploiting the financial system. Thanks to Carlo Giovanni Boffa for covering this in AML Intelligence and Roy Edwards in Enterprise Times. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/e8MhftA7
