You don’t have to be building a data center to need people who understand how one gets built. If you manufacture the equipment going into the facility, you’re already part of that process. A manufacturer can build out a power module, get it most of the way complete, skid it, wrap it, and ship it. Then it lands on a data center campus where the schedule has almost no room for error. Anything that wasn’t finished or accounted for in the plant becomes a problem for the site team on day one. We’ve already scoped a model around that. Take the same kind of crew you’d normally send to the jobsite and put them in the manufacturing plant earlier. They’ve been on the receiving end of these units before, so they already know what the installation and commissioning team is going to look for once it arrives.

More than 200,000 people leave the military every year, and many already have the skills, discipline, and experience that mission critical projects demand. Here's how the job codes line up.

ABC released its July backlog numbers the same morning we recorded this. Contractors with data center work under contract are sitting at 11.4 months of backlog. The other 88% of contractors, those without data center work, are at 7.5 months. That gap tells you a lot about the market right now. As hard as it is to find the talent needed for commercial construction projects, it is even harder for Data Center projects. That’s the part of the market we spend most of our week working in.

That power skid is a finished electrical room. It just hasn't gotten to its data center yet. Built and wired in a factory, tested, wrapped, put on a trailer, driven a couple hundred miles. Then it lands and somebody finds the screws that shook loose in transit, the panel that shifted, the part that came off somewhere on the highway. Worse still, maybe it wasn’t properly tested before it left. That work goes straight onto the critical path. What if the same people you want on site were in the plant when it was built? To our clients receiving AND those that are shipping it out, doesn't it make sense to have the same technical eyes on the Power Skid on both sides?

There's a decent chance the post you're reading right now loaded through a building we staffed. Northern Virginia carries something like 70 percent of the world's internet traffic on any given day, and we've had close to 40 percent of our people working there across projects for major hyperscalers. Those numbers come straight from our project history, not a pitch deck. That kind of footprint doesn't happen by accident. It comes from being in these rooms for years, on the projects that actually matter. We don't say this to brag. We say it because when you're trusting someone with a mission-critical build, it helps to know they've actually done one. If you've got a build coming that needs people who've been in rooms like that before, we'd like to be part of the conversation.

Projects are running longer than they used to, which means the crew you were planning to roll onto your next build might not actually be free when you need them. On top of that, there's a real push right now to break ground before new regulations kick in, so a lot of teams are trying to move faster than their staffing plan was built for. Neither of those is a reason to panic. It's just a reason to start earlier. The teams who build their pipeline before the project starts are the ones who aren't scrambling when the start date actually arrives. We'd rather have this conversation early and not need it right away than have it too late. If you've got something coming down the pipeline, even six months out, let's talk now instead of later.
