*50 years* as a professor. That's the milestone my dad Dr. Samaan Ladkany just surpassed. And 41 of them with University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the UNLV College of Engineering. And I cannot tell you just how much I admire this. I've never posted about family before on here. But my dad is set to retire soon - so I think this merits it. What is truly amazing is- that after all this time my father still *loves* his job. He's passionate about it. And he will still stay up to the odd hours of the evening dreaming up new ideas, inventing new structures problems to be analyzed, or solving equations. He's never mailed it in or just used the basic questions in some guide or the back of the book. He may not be the easiest professor (🙂) but there is no question that he *truly believes* in his mission and what he has committed his life to doing. I wish that kind of passion, commitment, and satisfaction in one's work on all us. CONGRATS DAD!

The holidays are not always an easy time. Financial and emotional pressures start to rise., And on the professional front, end of year deadlines are looming. I do strongly believe that leading with empathy is crucial. Trying to understand the "why" behind people's feelings, but their goals as well (family, teammembers, customers, etc) - simply put leads to better relationships and leaves us feeling better and more whole as well. But if that's not enough motivation - studies show why kindness at work pays off. (like this one from Harvard Business Review - https://lnkd.in/g5eGQAEx). It makes for better employees, work culture, better interactions with customers - everything. Empathy and kindness don't just boost morale -they can drive the bottom line too. Treating people well is its own ROI.

We implemented a custom tech for a customer...and it did *NOT* work. It was for a Property Manager meant to streamline their unique lease process. Things did not get faster and there was resistance. It wasn’t until we met again and uncovered something hidden and unshared, that things took a turn for the better. It only took a small tweak, but it made all the difference in the world. Technology helps us move faster - but communication helps us move together. No matter how much tech you add to your work - automation, AI, dashboards - there’s one thing that never loses its value: *clear, honest communication.* This reminded us that even when things seem clear - it is important to make sure all stakeholders feel comfortable sharing and you seek to uncover hidden resistance. A question asked. A misunderstanding cleared up. A new idea sparked. If you’re rolling out a new system, building a team, or working with clients - don’t underestimate the power of a good conversation.
