Most video advice stops at "make good video." That's where the problems start. Because a great video in the wrong spot still fails. I know because I did it for years as an in-house marketer. I'd grab whatever testimonial or product clip looked good and drop it wherever I had a hole to fill. Homepage. Nurture email. Sales deck. Same video, everywhere, hoping it pulled its weight. It didn't. Not because the video was bad. Because it was miscast. Every video has a job. And that job only works in one spot in the funnel. A slick product video makes a cold prospect lean in. Ask it to close a late-stage deal and it does nothing. A customer telling their story closes that deal. Show it to someone who's never heard of you and they scroll right past. Right video. Wrong role. That's the whole idea behind how we built Storysnap. Not one agency trying to do everything. A portfolio, each one owning a different moment in the buyer journey. Product Hype earns the lean-in. Testimonial Hero earns the yes. I put together a short video walking through how the two actually work as a system. It's below. Stop asking your video to do every job. Start casting it for one. Learn more at www.testimonialhero.com and www.producthype.com

Most breakdown videos focus on the best work in the industry. Recently, Hlib and I decided to do the opposite. I had a chance to collaborate with Hlib Trazanov. I enjoy his breakdowns, as we share a similar approach to SaaS videos. But instead of dissecting top-tier, industry-defining pieces… we took a look at something different: Real paid test submissions we received at Product Hype. A mix of: super solid work, some almost-there work, and some… ehhhh… not so much. Every applicant got the same brief: same prompt, same assets, same script, same music, same fonts - and most projects were completed in a single day. We went deep on: • design choices • layout and visual hierarchy • pacing and clarity • use of effects • and the small things you can do to make a video that much better Honestly, exercises like this are insanely valuable - not just for applicants, but for anyone trying to level up their motion work. These tiny adjustments compound. Huge thanks to Hlib for jumping on this with me. Also, LinkedIn has this weird thing about videos over an hour long - so I’m sharing a piece of it here, and the full video will be in the comments below. Also also, shoutout to you - if you recognize the opening track Learn more on our website: https://lnkd.in/g-C73Jsb

I wanna take a moment to talk about something that often gets overlooked in the process: The Roadmap. At Product Hype, every video goes through four stages: Script • Roadmap • Storyboard • Animation. The roadmap is where we set the music, test pacing, and time it all out against the copy. When there’s no VO the music becomes even more important. It’s what drives the pacing, sets the tone, and keeps the viewer engaged from scene to scene. It carries the story and helps the visuals land. For Supersonik, the order was tall. We had AI voiceover, human dialogue, typography, and the beat drop intro - all in 50 seconds. Each of those moments called for something different in the track - low part/padding for dialogue, rhythm for typography, high energy for visuals, and an opportunity to place the hook. Plus SuperSonik’s brand brings a fun, playful energy - which is part of what makes it so strong. But because they market to enterprise audiences, the music track had to strike the right balance between energy and trust. We found the perfect one. At the “Book a demo” screen, when the calendar is revealed - I pitch-shifted the track down - and cut on hit - a subtle trick that replaced the cliché record scratch, but had the same effect. Then there's a beat with no sound at all - just mouse clicks, then music comes in hard - we hold this until we get to the part with dialogue - for this section - I cut the track to line up against the beat drop - so beat drops into low padding - VO comes in - the music drop pulls you in to listen/focus - then we have the music come in full, and wrap the video. Every shift was intentional - every cut serving the story. Because music doesn’t just fill space. It sets the tone. And when done right, it takes a video from good to great. Shoutout to the great and powerful Santiago Muñoz Yepes! Santi owned the animation stage for this video and absolutely crushed it.
