New tools only protect a forwarders margin if the people using them every day understand and trust them. On The Loadstar podcast, my colleague Emma Crumpton explains why adoption is often the hardest part, with large forwarders needing to train thousands of operators on new tools and processes. She's joined by Ian Powell MBA, Tech and Solutions Director at Metro, to talk about where forwarders lose money and why changes need to be piloted and planned before they're rolled out across the business. Worth a listen if your team is bringing in new tools or ways of working. https://lnkd.in/ecMN_Pev #FreightForwarding #LogisticsTech #AIinLogistics

The easiest money a freight forwarder will find this year is the margin they had already earned yet handed back without noticing. I wrote a piece for The Loadstar about where that money actually goes. Its in the demurrage that never got passed on to the shipper, a carrier invoice overcharged against the contract, a haulage paid for in full that never happened. What actually protects margin is catching these shipments early enough to act, when there's still time to recover the charge on or dispute the invoice. These are the problems we work on every day at Portcast. Worth a read if you lead ocean freight business: https://lnkd.in/gbQgZCEY

For freight forwarders, margin is where the business makes its money, and small losses on each shipment can quickly add up. 🤑 On The Loadstar podcast, my colleague Emma Crumpton and Ian Powell MBA, Tech & Solutions Director at Metro, discuss where forwarders lose margin and how to protect it: from better rates and customer retention to D&D, misquotes, wasted haulage and unbilled costs. Worth a listen if you manage a P&L and want a clearer view of where your margin is going. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gE86RUDV #FreightForwarding #LogisticsTech Portcast

Almost every forwarder I speak to tells me the same thing: margins are thin and getting thinner. The part that surprises people is how much of it is recoverable. The money is not lost to bad deals or market swings. It is sitting in charges that were already earned and handed back without anyone noticing, and most teams only see it once it has added up across a full quarter. Portcast CEO, Nidhi Gupta, wrote a piece for The Loadstar that names it well: where forwarder margin leaks, why it is so hard to catch at scale, and what actually protects it. If margin protection is on your list this year, it is worth your time: https://lnkd.in/d-8dMu3D

Forwarders have more shipment data than ever, yet getting it to the right operator at the right time is still a struggle. On The Loadstar podcast, my colleague Emma Crumpton shares her view on where AI fits in freight forwarding, working alongside operators and giving them the data they need to make the best decision in the moment. She's joined by Ian Powell MBA, Tech and Solutions Director at Metro, one of our Portcast customers, to talk about where forwarders lose money and how to protect their margin. Worth a listen if you're thinking about how AI could support your team day-to-day. https://lnkd.in/eDnFhAtK #FreightForwarding #LogisticsTech #AIinLogistics

D&D is one of the oldest margin problems in freight forwarding, and when a mistake slips through, forwarders often end up paying the charge themselves. On The Loadstar podcast, my colleague Emma Crumpton explains why D&D is so hard to track, with free time, rates and charging rules changing by carrier, port and country. She's joined by Ian Powell, Tech and Solutions Director at Metro, to talk about where forwarders lose money and what to focus on to stop it. Worth a listen if D&D charges and other margin leakage keep showing up on your P&L. https://lnkd.in/gzUcjXSj #DetentionAndDemurrage #LogisticsTech
