I’m seeing so many AI projects struggle to ever break even. We have returned the ROI of 88% of our projects in the last year - here’s how: There's two parts of the equation. No, we’re not special. We don’t have some fancy proprietary access to GPT-7. Yes, we have a great team that can execute - but I also reject 80% of the leads asking for AI projects from us. We just ask the right questions up front. We only take projects that we know will succeed. We turn away projects that: - Will never see profitability - Someone on Fiverr could do - Don’t even need AI in the first place - Doesn’t have CEO buy in (Yes we ask) We have elite product managers who help make sure the answer to “Is there ROI?” is a resounding “Yes” before we even get started. We even show them our estimate on the second call. We also have an experienced Engineering team that has seen most core problems before, and have been building AI solutions for 10+ years. Together, we spend four weeks, no risk to the client, to prove that out in a paid discovery we call a Rapid Validation Sprint. That creates a win-win scenario. No one involved - the client or our agency - is worried about IF this AI solution will return their investment. We’re just working together to remove mundane work and build the future companies of the stock market. It’s fun, and a client just said “How do you learn all of this so fast?” The answer? We love what we do.

ChatGPT is starting to lock you into their ecosystem. And if you are a leader, right now, you need to make a difficult decision about your company’s 10-year AI strategy OpenAI's biggest problem right now is developers. Claude is eating their lunch in market share. The thing is, they need to win the developers market. The success of any frontier model company is the ability for developers to migrate to their platform and build the tools in their ecosystem rather than competitors. And since it’s so easy to switch, most developers just point their Cursor instance to the best-performing model. Switching costs are low. OpenAI realizes this, and doesn’t like it. So they’re following the trillion-dollar playbooks. Apple created the App store to support the developers to lock in the developers to their ecosystem. It worked. AWS has egress fees so high that hardly any company switches. It works. That’s why OpenAI is now an operating system. Not an app. Not a Product. Don't let anyone tell you differently. As an agency that is using millions and millions of tokens with ChatGPT, we know firsthand. They are awarding people like us for using those tokens, handing out trophies like the one you see below. They want to keep developers in ChatGPT so we don't switch to Claude, or Microsoft, or Google, or Facebook. They’re courting us because we are making the decision for our clients to use billions of tokens on OpenAI. That means if you’re a leader, you need to decide where you want your company data. RIGHT NOW, the switching cost is cheap. Switching between ChatGPT and Gemini costs your company nothing. In the future, the switching cost will be millions. Just like AWS. Because here is the news that no one is telling you. And I will bet my career on this. ChatGPT will not play nice with Google and Microsoft in 10 years. Just like the Apple app store does not play nice with Google or Microsoft. If you decide that every engineer, product manager, and piece of software you use in your company is based on OpenAI - then continue to use them. They will develop their own powerpoint, word, excel, and CRM. OpenAI will develop their own appstore, protocols, and the tokens will only work with them. If you’re not ready for that, and prefer Google or Microsoft…you’re going to lose when OpenAI further locks you in the system, and you can’t talk to GDocs. The good news, though: if you DON'T choose OpenAI. You will not be locked in. Azure just announced the ability to choose Claude or OpenAI if you are in the Azure cloud. Google is going to follow Microsoft's play because they have open source Android, which worked very well for them. As a leader, you have a choice today to start talking about which side you’re on. Figuring out how your team supports each other with one AI system that has unified knowledge. In one year, whatever decision you made, switching will be 10x harder. Yikes. ...

“AI will destroy product managers” well…We’ve built 50+ AI solutions for huge companies, and that’s how I know product management is now MORE valuable with AI, not less. Think of it this way. Thanks to AI, the cost of adding a feature is close to 0. Cursor / Claude / GPT makes it incredibly easy. And when it costs 0 to add features, people will add everything in the world. They'll add every single feature possible, and the user experience will be horrible. Because yes, technically, you can have a HubSpot that also is a Monday that also is a Figma that is also a QuickBooks. What user wants that experience, though? The product manager’s job is to understand what the minimal use case actually is. It’s about whether the feature is necessary, not just if it’s cheap to build. That’s why we stopped doing purely cost-based analysis for our clients; we're doing value based consulting, based on the Return of Investment of the entire product (not a feature.) When anything is possible, you need taste to evaluate whether anything should exist. On software teams, the person with that taste is the product manager.

Three things are certain in life…death, taxes, and McKinsey claiming they can unlock AI for your company in exchange for $500k. It’s the wrong approach, for three reasons. - It shouldn’t cost you $500k (before you know you’re getting ROI) - McKinsey isn’t sending you people who have been there, done that - It doesn’t start with validation that you even SHOULD be exploring AI I’ll be the first person to say every modern organization should be exploring AI. But right after that, I’ll say you should do it in a methodical, cost-effective way before you’re burning through 4 annual salaries. At least, that’s how we’ve crafted our approach. And it’s returned numerous ROI-positive projects for our clients. Let me know if you’re interested.
