NLC today released its financial and operational results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, ended October 4, 2025. "We remain cautiously optimistic about the outlook for the balance of the year,” said Bruce Keating, NLC President and CEO. “After many consecutive quarters of strong financial performance, this quarter’s beverage alcohol results reflect variability in the market and the ongoing effect of removing U.S. product. At the same time, cannabis is showing steady, positive momentum as we further shrink the illicit market. NLC continues to deliver strong performance across our entire organization, from Regulatory Services and corporate social responsibility to our Rock Spirits manufacturing operation. We remain dedicated to excellence in every area of our work and to earning the public’s trust each day.

Yesterday, we joined MADD at Beaconsfield Junior High to kick off the 2025-26 NL School Program. We’re honored to support MADD Canada and their vital work towards building safer, more informed communities by helping to provide local youth with these life-changing messages.

As we continue to recognize Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re listening, learning, and celebrating the many ways people with disabilities strengthen our workplaces. Meet Katlyn Dawe, Auditor with NLC’s Internal Audit team. Katlyn shares her experience of living with AuDHD (Autism and ADHD) to highlight the importance of understanding, acceptance, and adaptability in supporting all employees. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆? "Living and working with a disability has been both challenging and eye-opening. For most of my life, I didn’t realize why I felt different — I just thought it was part of my personality. About three years ago, I finally received a diagnosis, which helped me understand myself in a new way. Socialization was always difficult. I often missed sarcasm, tone, and subtle nuances in conversation. To adapt, I trained myself to recognize these cues — even using Chandler Bing from Friends as a guide to better understand sarcasm. For years, I relied on masking behaviors to fit in: reminding myself to smile, rehearsing lines before social situations, and practicing small talk. While it helped me get by, it also caused anxiety because I was performing instead of being myself. Now, with more self-awareness and experience, I’ve learned to recognize patterns and mannerisms more naturally. That growth came with a lot of work and persistence. Living with a disability has taught me resilience and creativity in navigating challenges — and given me a deeper appreciation for empathy and understanding in the workplace and beyond." 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲? "First, communication is key. Using clear, concise language in meetings, emails, and policies helps avoid misinterpretation and makes information more accessible. Second, education is vital. Providing training for managers on neurodiversity and autism builds awareness of different communication styles and helps avoid misconceptions. When leaders understand what autism is — and isn’t — they’re better equipped to support their teams. Finally, inclusivity means adaptability. Having accommodations available and being open to individual needs ensures employees can work in an environment where they’re supported and can thrive." 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂? "Allyship means choosing to learn and educate yourself about autism and other disabilities. An ally takes time to understand rather than assume. It’s about treating colleagues with disabilities with the same respect and professionalism as anyone else — recognizing their value and contributions. True allyship is about acceptance, understanding, and creating a workplace where everyone feels respected and supported."

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month—a time to listen, learn, and celebrate the many ways people with disabilities strengthen our workplaces. At NLC, we’re committed to creating an inclusive environment where every employee has the opportunity to thrive. This month, we’re proud to highlight colleagues who inspire us through their determination, talent, and contributions, reminding us why accessibility and inclusion matter every day. Meet Diana Parsons, Store Manager at NLC on Ropewalk Lane. Diana, who lives with multiple sclerosis, shares her experience to shed light on resilience, accessibility, and the everyday support that truly makes a difference. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆? "Living and working with multiple sclerosis has been a significant part of my life since my diagnosis 16 years ago. About six years ago, I had an opportunity with NLC to move to St. John’s. This has provided better access to healthcare and the support I need to manage my condition. I deal with pain in my hands and legs every day. Some days are more challenging than others, and there’s never a completely pain-free day. Despite these challenges, work keeps me motivated and gives me purpose, helping me stay active and engaged. It has supported my resilience and adaptability and reinforced the importance of maintaining a balance between my health and professional goals. MS is tough, but I’m tougher." 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲? "Organizations can foster an inclusive workplace by prioritizing accessibility in all aspects of the environment. This includes practical steps like installing ramps instead of stairs where possible and ensuring that facilities such as bathrooms are accessible to everyone. Even small barriers can have a big impact—not being able to access a building or a bathroom can be upsetting and isolating for someone with a physical disability. By proactively designing spaces with accessibility in mind, organizations can demonstrate that they value all employees and are committed to inclusion." 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂? "I’m fortunate to have a team that is supportive and considerate, especially on days when my pain is more severe. This can be as simple as helping with tasks like taking tills to the cash or pumping gas when my hands aren’t cooperating. Knowing that I have this kind of support from my colleagues makes a meaningful difference and allows me to feel included and valued at work."

Thank you to our customers, supplier partners, and staff for their incredible efforts towards NLC’s Keeping Families Close Campaign in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities NL (RMHCNL) and the Red Shoe Crew Walk for Families. We are thrilled to share that the campaign raised $113,284. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our customers and supplier partners, and the enthusiasm of NLC staff. This incredible donation will help ensure that RMHCNL can continue to support sick or injured children and their families - allowing them to stay close to each other and the medical care they need.
