Higher education can be a powerful engine for economic mobility, but racial and wealth inequities shape who gets in, who gets through, and who benefits afterward. IHEP’s Wealth, Race, and Higher Education research series digs into how family assets influence students’ ability to meet basic needs, stay enrolled, complete a degree, and build financial stability after college. The data show stark differences by race and ethnicity—patterns we need to understand if we’re serious about closing opportunity gaps. 🔍 Explore the series: https://lnkd.in/dhiyRDMa #HigherEd #CollegeAffordability #RacialWealthGap #CollegeCompletion

White and Asian American students with no wealth earn bachelor’s degrees at rates similar to Black and American Indian and Alaska Native students with some wealth. Our latest brief shows how family wealth shapes college journeys from the very start, influencing who aspires to college, who stays enrolled, and who ultimately earns a degree. We find that students from low-wealth households, especially Black, Hispanic or Latino, and AI/AN students, are more likely to leave college without completing a degree, even when they have the same aspirations as wealthier peers. Understanding how wealth, not just income, impacts student outcomes is critical for creating a higher education system that serves all students well. 🔍 Explore more findings: https://lnkd.in/ebJPbzc5 #HigherEd #RacialWealthGap #CollegeDreams
