DON'T PUSH MARGINAL CANDIDATES INTO THE PIPELINE...It's not good for the candidates, the clients or you. When you submit marginal candidates, you exchange short term pleasure for long term pain. Choose satisfaction tomorrow over the dopamine boost today. To find out more about how iLocatum can help your your hiring process: https://lnkd.in/eNRybMUu

AVOID THIS MANAGEMENT MISTAKE: Everyone tells you to focus on the process to achieve the goal...they're WRONG. This was initially a surprise to me. Consultants, experts, the orthodoxy all push process. And who was I going to believe, them or my lying eyes??? When you're leading a team, the goal is paramount. The process should be solid, but the purpose must tower over it. Otherwise, you and your team will hide inside the process, with accountability, growth, and scale forever just out of reach. HARD TRUTH: You Are Who You Are When You Are Driving! We like to compartmentalize, but there's no 'asterisk' for behavior behind the wheel. Imagine if when applying for a job, you had to submit dashcam footage of the last 100 hours of your driving, AI collated for stats and 'interesting' parts bookmarked. Imagine that, and then act as if. Over time, driving is one of the most stressful things you do; but it's also the area to address offering you the greatest ROI in self-improvement. #1 FACTOR IN JOB ADS THAT PERFORM WELL IN ADS VERSUS THOSE THAT DON'T: I had an awesome account executive at Indeed (let me add I've also had many great account folks at LinkedIn as well so the algo doesn't crush me 😁 ) who had a great way to put it. He termed the jobs that performed well in ads as the "THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE JOBS." So the greater the extent to which there was clarity and certainty about what a particular job was, and who is actually a fit for that role; the better it would perform in ads. Essentially the ambiguity about basic qualifications is almost entirely removed. Examples of "THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE JOBS" would include accountants, attorneys, nurses. While there may be mitigating factors about the NUMBER of applicants due to other factors (subject for another video), at least those who apply to those roles are very likely to current work in those fields rather than at Taco Bell. The same is not true for other positions. And the extent to which it's not true is the extent to which those positions fall into the "I COULD DO THAT" category. In addition to a lack of licensure and certifications, the extent to which there is any ambiguity is a major factor. Examples of "I COULD DO THAT" positions include sales, customer success, and marketing roles. No one who is not currently an attorney is going to think they can be an attorney, but everyone who is mildly charismatic and persuasive has been told they should go into sales; so they're out there mass applying to sales leadership roles with zero experience. It's important you make this distinction; otherwise you're wasting money. You'll want to reach out to passive candidates for every role via LinkedIn Recruiter and elsewhere. You'll want to use ads to the extent you're getting the right candidates in quality and number. The best way to navigate this course is to let "They Are What They Are Jobs" be your job ad north star. THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF FRIENDS; WHICH ARE YOU? In every friendship there is an INITIATOR and a RECIPROCATOR. There's the person who's always reaching out, planning things, and then there's the lazy person, the free-rider 😁. Everyone knows it's better to be the initiator, but both roles work and it does take two to tango. But here's the thing, these roles exist in a business context as well. The challenge comes when your job requires you to be the initiator and you've simply been living as a 24/7 reciprocator. Your whole life needs to be in alignment with your purpose. You can't just just flip a switch, do a 180, and be an effective initiator. If this is you, get out there mix in some initiating with the reciprocating in your personal life, and see how much your work performance improves. UNDERSTANDING WHY ELON IS OBSESSED WITH GOING TO MARS WILL HELP YOUR BUSINESS... First, why does he want to go? Besides "all the cool billionaires are doing it," the main reason is this: It's a CONTINGENCY plan. If things don't work out here, humanity can still thrive there. States' rights in the US work similarly. Blowhards pontificate. But then their ideas are A/B tested and people vote with their feet. The same is true in your business; you need contingency plans. You should be constantly testing ideas, to either confirm your assumptions or foresee any necessary pivots. Doing this requires recruiting top talent.
