Seasonal hiring is picking up. But does your screening process change with it? Temporary, seasonal, or contract employees may only be joining your organisation for a few weeks or months. But the risks associated with hiring do not necessarily disappear when the contract is shorter. So, what should you consider when screening seasonal employees? Depending on the role, you may want to consider: - Identity verification: Is your candidate who they say they are? - Criminal record checks: Are there any relevant risks you should be aware of? - Employment verification: Does their previous employment history check out? - Qualification checks: Are required qualifications, licences, or certifications valid? - Work permit verification: Where applicable, does the candidate have the right documentation to work? - Job-specific checks: Could the role require additional screening, such as credit, professional registration, or driver’s licence checks? But here is the catch: Not every seasonal employee needs every check. The right screening approach should be relevant to the role, proportionate to the risk, and aligned with your organisation’s requirements. Seasonal hiring may be temporary, but making the wrong hire can still have lasting consequences. Screen smart. Screen appropriately. Reduce risk. A temporary hire can still create a long-term risk. As year-end hiring picks up, businesses often turn to seasonal, temporary, or contract employees. But shorter contracts don't automatically mean lower risk. Before bringing someone on board, consider whether the role requires: ✔️ Identity verification ✔️ Criminal record checks ✔️ Employment verification ✔️ Qualification or licence verification ✔️ Work permit verification ✔️ Job-specific screening The key is not to screen everyone for everything. Screen according to the role, the risk, and your organisation's requirements. Seasonal hiring may be temporary. Your hiring decisions shouldn't be taken lightly. Screen smart. Screen appropriately. Reduce risk. Need help deciding which checks are right for your seasonal workforce? Reach out to our team 📞 069 627 1398 📧 [email protected]
