I've spent a few posts now making the compliance case for accurate time data. Back wage recoveries, what happens to your burden of proof when the records don't add up, the cost of correcting errors. But these aren't the concern that HR leaders raise with me first; the importance of ensuring accurate payroll is. PayrollOrg's 2024 Getting Paid in America survey asked more than 36,000 US workers what a week's delay to their paycheck would mean. Seventy-seven percent said they would have difficulty meeting their financial obligations. Furthermore, hourly workers tend to have less financial slack than salaried ones, which makes the tolerance for errors even lower. In manufacturing, that lands on an operation already carrying high hourly turnover, where a replacement means recruitment, training and safety onboarding before anyone is productive on the line. The part worth noting is that these errors are almost never payroll's fault. Payroll merely processes what it's given. The error happens further upstream, where time is captured, either on paper or on a clock that doesn't properly integrate with Workday HCM, and then someone corrects it by hand under deadline pressure. Give a careful team bad inputs and a tight window and errors are inevitable. Which is the argument for fixing this at the source rather than at the end. GT Time captures the punch where the work begins and delivers verified data into Workday HCM with nobody in between, so payroll works from the same record the clock made. We're headed back to HR Tech for the tenth year running! We're proud to mark a decade of offering hands-on timeclock experience to attendees who are looking to streamline HR, better manage payroll, and ensure compliance. You can find us on booth 2812 at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, from October 20 to 22. Here, Matthew Smith, Michael Braun, Colin Leatherbarrow, and Cameron L. will have our timeclock lineup set up for demos, from the GT8 to our latest addition, GT Tablet. See you there! Are you heading to Workday Rising next month? 👋 Ben Lagden and I will be in Las Vegas and looking forward to catching up with partners, SIs, customers and anyone thinking about the physical side of time and attendance. A lot of the conversations we have start with a pretty simple challenge: you've got the workforce system sorted, but how are employees actually clocking in and out? That's where our timeclocks come in. Through GT Time, they connect directly into Workday via a Workday Design Approved integration, so hours captured on the floor arrive in Workday without rekeying. If you're working on a Workday implementation that needs physical time capture, I'd love to hear what you're seeing and talk through how our hardware could complete the picture. If 15 to 30 minutes together in Vegas would be useful, drop me a message or book a time with Ben using the link in the comments.

Are you attending Workday Rising next week? GT Clocks will be there as attendees, October 12 to 15 and wed love to meet you. Quick context on who we are, in case were new to you. Based in Florida, GT Clocks makes the timeclocks that sit at the front end of your Workday HCM. The hardware captures the moment work starts, whether that’s on the floor, at the start of the line, or at the door, and feeds the data straight into Workday through Workday Design Approved integration. This helps ensure payroll reflects the hours employees genuinely worked. And where you choose to switch on biometric verification, buddy punching stops at the terminal. If timeclocks properly integrated with Workday are on your agenda, let's discuss how you're set up and what you're trying to fix, and I'll give you a straight view on the best route forward. We don't have a booth at Workday Rising this year, so there are two ways to catch us: • Book 30 minutes during one of the days and we'll meet somewhere convenient, either in or near the conference • Join us for drinks at Juliet Cocktail Room in the Venetian, Tuesday October 13, 6 to 8pm (RSVP, spaces limited) Either way, it's a relaxed first conversation. If there's more to talk about, we'll set up a proper follow-up once Rising is over. We hope to meet you in Vegas next week! https://lnkd.in/eMZCW4HS

You wouldn't run a plant on an MES that doesn't talk to anything else. Or a quality system that needs someone to rekey results at the end of the week. Timeclocks belong in the same category. They're plant infrastructure, and when they're properly connected to Workday HCM, six things change: 1.Pre-shift time is captured correctly. PPE, gowning, safety briefings and tooling get recorded as the compensable work they are, rather than disappearing into the gap before the formal clock-in. 2. Overtime is calculated on the right regular rate. Shift differentials and premiums fold into the regular rate automatically. Get that wrong and every overtime hour that follows is underpaid, which is how small errors turn into large back-pay claims. 3. You're audit-ready for an enforcement visit. Every clock-in, break and pre-shift activity is timestamped and exportable. That's what a DOL inspector asks for, and the absence of it is what turns a defensible position into an indefensible one. 4. Payroll runs in minutes rather than half-days. Verified punch data flows into Oracle payroll and absence modules directly. No manual keying, and no correction cycle in the days before payday. 5. Accuracy works in both directions. An OnTheClock survey of more than 830 hourly workers this August found 43% had submitted timesheets that didn't match the hours they worked, and one in four had clocked in or out for a colleague. Optional biometric verification closes that gap, and facial recognition is the practical choice on a plant floor where gloved hands make fingerprint readers unreliable. 6. EHS gets a live roll-call. Clock data gives you a real-time picture of who is on site for muster, evacuation and contractor tracking. Most plants build that capability separately. You already have the data. Running Workday HCM across multiple sites? Your MES gets treated as critical infrastructure. Your time data feeds payroll, compliance and safety, and it deserves the same status.
