A major challenge in OLED research is determining where optical energy is lost — and whether a device modification really improves light extraction. The research team from Kyung Hee University, the University of Cologne and the University of St Andrews addressed this in a new Nature Photonics paper on quantum-dot-coupled inverted phosphorescent OLEDs. Their QD interlayer redirects energy that would otherwise be lost through surface plasmon polariton modes. The optimized device reached 20.95% EQE versus 15.67% for the reference OLED, together with substantially improved operational stability. This is where Setfos contributed. The researchers used #Setfos to analyse optical modes and power dissipation, investigate outcoupling and refractive-index effects, and optimize OLED layer thicknesses. This helped separate conventional multilayer optical effects from the additional QD-mediated mechanism investigated with 3D FDTD. For OLED researchers trying to understand where photons go inside their device before fabricating the next stack, optical simulation provides that insight. See how Setfos supports OLED optical modelling → fluxim.com/setfos Congratulations to Thi Thuy Truong, Hai Truyen Dang, Nisha Vergineya S, Malte Gather and Jang Hyuk Kwon on this excellent publication in Nature Photonics. Thank you as well for your trust in Setfos and for using it as part of your OLED optical analysis. We are pleased to see Fluxim tools contributing to research that advances understanding of optical losses and light extraction in phosphorescent OLEDs. Truong, T. T., Dang, H. T., S, N. Our research webinars are back after the summer break! And the question we want to answer is... How can we extract meaningful physical parameters from perovskite solar cells more efficiently? Dr. Evelyne Knapp from the ZHAW School of Engineering will answer this is and more when she presents: Efficient Multi-Objective Parameter Extraction in Perovskite Solar Cells Tuesday 22nd September at 10am CET Register here: https://lnkd.in/eAraWPBi See you there.

JV Hysteresis Is Data, Not an Artifact Scan your perovskite cell forward and backward and you get two different JV curves. Frustrating? Only if you can't explain it. Setfos couples mobile ionic charges directly into the drift-diffusion solver. That means you can simulate scan-rate-dependent JV curves and see exactly how ion migration redistributes the internal field in your device. Instead of reporting hysteresis as an artifact, you can quantify the ion density and mobility behind it. Try Setfos free for one month. https://lnkd.in/gcY652j
