Hiring Leaders Predict Tough Job Market in 2026 Over the last two weeks, I’ve had several conversations with hiring leaders across the tech space with all pointing to a common theme: the job market will remain challenging going into next year. Here’s what I’ve been hearing: - Many companies have already closed out hiring for 2025, while a few are rushing to complete final end-of-year hires. - HR teams are seeing a surge in job applications over the past 6 months — driven in part by AI tools enabling mass applications. - Unfortunately, this volume is having the opposite effect: instead of increasing chances, mass applying is working against candidates. From HR’s perspective, this spike in unqualified or irrelevant applications is leading to two major outcomes: 1. Postings are being closed early, before strong candidates even get the chance to apply. 2. Referrals and internal candidates are being prioritized, often bypassing the general applicant pool entirely. The bottom line: Volume doesn’t work anymore. Quality does. Tailored applications, warm intros, and trusted referrals now far outweighs spray-and-pray tactics by miles. As we move into 2026: Be intentional. Build relationships. Get referrals. The job market rewards strategy. ___ What are you seeing in your market? Drop a comment below. P.S. We built ePosting Corp as a referral marketplace to help solve exactly this problem. #JobSearch #HiringTrends #CareerAdvice #TechJobs #ReferralsMatter #HRInsights #JobMarket2026

Cover letters still matter. Not because I expect to be impressed by them, and not because I’m hoping for perfect writing. I read them for one reason: I’m trying to understand whether the person applying actually knows what the job requires - and whether they can show me, in plain language, that they’ve done something similar before and have the skills to do the job. AI has changed how I read them. Most cover letters now look clean and well-written. That’s fine. But it also means I ignore the writing style (and somewhat your personality based on the writing) completely and look straight for proof. If I finish reading and still don’t know whether you’ve actually solved problems like the ones in this role, then nothing else matters. There’s an easy way to write a useful cover letter in 2025: - Take the first 3 requirements from the job description. - Respond to each one. Not in vague claims like “I’m a strong collaborator” or “I learn quickly.” Instead: - “You’re looking for someone who’s built X. I haven’t built that exact thing, but I’ve done Y which is similar in scope and complexity.” - “You want experience with scaling from A to B. Here’s when I went from C to D, and what I’d apply from that experience.” It doesn’t have to be perfect matches. Transferable skills are fine. Just make it easy for me to trust that you’ve thought about what the role actually involves. That’s why, on ePosting, we require one thing from anyone requesting a referral: “Why are you a good fit for this role?” Because if you’re asking someone to put their name behind you, you should at least be able to explain yourself in a way that makes them believe it too.
