Risk Factor Focus: Family History Awareness starts with knowing your risks. Each month, we’ll spotlight a factor that can increase the chances of developing ovarian cancer. This month: Family History What it means: If you have a close relative (parent, sibling, or child) who has had ovarian or breast cancer, your risk may be higher. Why it matters: About 1 in 5 ovarian cancers are linked to inherited genetic mutations, such as BRCA1 or BRCA2. What you can do: ✅ Talk with your doctor about your family history. ✅ Ask if genetic counseling or testing is right for you. ✅ Share this information with loved ones - family health history can save lives. #OvarianCancerAwareness #GeneticTesting #BRCAAwareness #ElizabethsWish #WomensHealth

Symptom Spotlight: Back Pain We all get back pain sometimes: after a long day on our feet, sitting too long at a desk, or lifting something heavy. But persistent or unusual back pain can sometimes signal something more serious, including ovarian cancer. What’s normal? ✅ Pain after physical activity, poor posture, or lifting ✅ Soreness that improves with rest, stretching, or movement ✅ Discomfort that comes and goes, linked to specific activities What’s not? ❌ Back pain that feels constant or worsens over time ❌ Pain not relieved by rest or typical remedies ❌ Back discomfort accompanied by bloating, urinary changes, or fatigue If your back pain is frequent, severe, or unexplained, don’t ignore it. Track your symptoms and talk to your doctor. #WomensHealth #OvarianCancerAwareness #ElizabethsWish

Pap smears do not detect ovarian cancer. Pap tests screen for cervical cancer, not ovarian, not uterine, not any other gynecologic cancers. So if your Pap was normal, that’s great. But it doesn’t give you the full picture. Ovarian cancer is often called the silent killer because its symptoms are vague or dismissed. But they are real, and they matter. Here’s what else you can do: 🔹 Know the symptoms: bloating, urinary changes, pelvic pain, feeling full quickly, back pain, fatigue 🔹 Track what’s unusual for you, especially if it lasts more than 2 weeks 🔹 Don’t downplay your symptoms to your doctor 🔹 Ask questions about family history, genetic risk, and what tests may help Your voice is your first line of defense. Don’t wait for a test to tell you something is wrong, especially when there isn’t one for early-stage ovarian cancer. #ElizabethsWish #OvarianCancerAwareness #AdvocateForYourself

Elizabeth’s Wish Warrior: Canadian model Ash Foo Foo was four years into a successful career when she started to notice small changes in her body. “I was bloated, and at first, I thought it was due to my period, so I thought nothing of it,” she explains. “It didn’t go away for two months, but there were no other symptoms.” After further testing, Ash was diagnosed with dysgerminoma (a germ‑cell ovarian tumor). Doctors removed a 20‑cm tumor from her right ovary, and after three cycles of chemotherapy, she ultimately had her left ovary removed. Ash is finding beauty in embracing imperfection and learning to love herself. “It was difficult at first because as a model, you’re wired to think you have to look perfect. Now I have chemotherapy burns on my skin and scars. I look completely different than when I started. Seeing my body and accepting it for what it is instead of judging it has been empowering. I want to continue to work on my confidence and just embrace who I am now.” Today, Ash is now in remission and uses her platform to support early detection research. If something feels off, or a symptom like bloating doesn’t go away, trust your body and get it checked. #ElizabethsWishWarrior #OvarianCancerAwareness #TealWarrior
