We’re all seeing the headlines: rising deportations, expanded detention, ICE raids, hardening borders. Together, they point to a stark reality—migrants and refugees have fewer and fewer places to turn for safety and protection. Health needs are growing as migration is forced to shift and reverse course, pushing people into longer journeys and greater physical and mental harm–untreated injuries, chronic conditions, mental health crises, and gender-based violence. I saw this firsthand on a recent trip to Mexico City, where families are trapped in limbo with no clear path forward. One of them was Maya, a pregnant woman from Colombia who crossed the Darién Gap with her family, traveled through six countries, and now finds herself stuck—uncertain, exhausted, and without reliable access to care. Her story isn’t an outlier. It’s the emerging pattern. Yet even as aid shrinks and others have pulled back, Doctors of the World has remained present in key migrant hubs across the Americas—and in conflict zones like Gaza, Ukraine, and Syria. Our teams continue to safeguard access to safe, dignified medical and mental health care, working hand-in-hand with local partners. Reverse migration isn’t just a shift in direction—it’s a shift in vulnerability and urgency. And it demands collective action that meets people where they are. 👉 Learn more about what Doctors of the World teams are seeing and how we are responding https://lnkd.in/e7PF_aZN
