How can creatine help farmed fish cope with high-fat diets? 🐟This study in the British Journal of Nutrition shows that dietary creatine supplementation mitigates the negative impacts of HFD on growth performance, intestinal health, lipid metabolism, and even muscle quality in juvenile largemouth bass. By providing multi-organ evidence, the research highlights creatine’s potential as a green feed additive and offers new strategies for sustainable aquaculture. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/g79bN6pn

📢 Featured in Renewable Agriculture and Food Systems Researchers from Huazhong Agricultural University and the University of Florida analyze how offspring gender composition influences long-term agricultural investment. Using survey data from 4,090 households in Hubei, China, the study finds: Absence of male heirs significantly reduces long-term investments. Mechanisms include stronger present bias and weaker social capital. Effects are greater when household heads are male and land marketization is limited. More developed land markets mitigate these negative impacts. 💡 The study highlights the critical role of gender norms and policy in shaping sustainable agricultural development. 👉 Read the Open Access article: https://lnkd.in/gurhwC6v

📢 Highlight from Epidemiology & Infection A research team from Zhejiang University School of Medicine examined global patterns of influenza-associated lower respiratory infection (LRI) deaths between 1990–2019 using GBD 2019 data. 🔍 Key insights: Global age-standardized death rates declined (AAPC = −1.88%). Children under 5 showed major reductions in mortality. Elderly (70+) remain most vulnerable, with rising deaths since 2017 in Western Pacific & South-East Asia. Africa and Western Pacific carry a disproportionate burden. 💡 Findings underscore the importance of vaccination, healthcare access, and tailored prevention for high-risk groups. 👉 Read the Open Access article: https://lnkd.in/gyfEmkww

📢 New in Seed Science Research Researchers from Seoul National University examined the ecological role of Korean water deer (Hydropotes inermis argyropus) in seed dispersal. Their study tested how deer feces affect seed germination and early seedling growth across 12 plant species. Results reveal that while most species showed no significant response, Urtica angustifolia seedlings grew significantly taller in the presence of feces. These findings provide fresh insights into endozoochory and the contribution of large herbivores to vegetation dynamics. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gWZ35mDu #SeedScienceResearch #Ecology #PlantSciences #SustainableEcosystems
