I was the 9th overall pick in the professional lacrosse draft. I also took a job as an analyst at First Manhattan Consulting Group. A few months into professional lacrosse and a consulting career, two things became clear: I wasn't a great pro player yet, but I thought I could become one. And splitting my focus between two careers meant I wasn't maximizing either. At the time, professional lacrosse wasn't like other pro sports. Most players couldn't make a full-time living from the game, so they worked corporate jobs while trying to compete at the highest level. That was my reality. I worked Monday through Friday and spent evenings, weekends, and plenty of PTO training, practicing, and traveling for games. It didn't take long to realize I was trying to do two demanding things at once. One paid the bills and challenged me intellectually. The other had been my dream since I was a kid. So I decided to go all-in on lacrosse. I had no clear plan for how I was going to make a living. What I did know was that if I committed fully, I had a chance to become one of the best players in the league. I trusted my work ethic, my network, and my ability to figure things out along the way. I looked at people like Kyle Sweeney, Ryan Boyle, and Paul Rabil, who had built careers around the sport, and learned from what they were doing. The bet worked. I got to spend nearly a decade competing at the highest level of a sport I loved while laying the foundation for a career in talent and leadership advisory. Eventually, that chapter ended and a new one began. But the lesson of betting on myself, focusing on the ingredients—conviction, hard work, discipline—and trusting the outcomes continues to carry me in my journey at Beecher Reagan.

I look at this type of reported move by McKinsey as an admission that the old model's dead. They're restructuring like they're an investor-backed company. Cut cash comp. Put more into rewarded, deferred equity. And what that means is they free up cash to invest, so they can invest faster. In a partnership, all the cash goes out the door every year. You pay your salaries, you pay your team, you pay your SG&A, and the rest goes to the partners as a K-1 distribution. Investor-backed is different. Two-thirds comes to you as cash. One-third stays as free cash flow — and that one-third is getting 80, 90, 100% reinvested in buying growth or hiring growth. If you're a billion-dollar company, that's $300 million getting reinvested versus zero. Non-investor-backed companies are going to lose competitiveness... In places like acquisitions and compensation. You can't run the firm by committee anymore. You clean up the governance structure, and you free up cash flow more than ever to invest. This was an admission to what it's going to take to win going forward, not going backwards. Your partners can be investors. #privateequity #professionalservices #consulting #leadership

To think we've built a specialty executive search firm into a consistent top 50 firm is something I'm incredibly proud of. The start of 2026 has been Beecher Reagan's best ever, and I owe that to our team, our clients, and the executives we place. We've continued to build a team focused on expanding capabilities and delivering client outcomes, and we've had the privilege of working with so many world-class firms in professional services and private equity. - Text-onlyThe exit conversation in PE-backed platforms feels different right now. Less about the EBITDA number alone. More about the durability of the team that gets you there. When a buyer evaluates a platform in the back half of the hold period, they're modeling EBITDA and key-person risk in parallel. If the business depends on a CEO, a CRO, and a single technology leader, that shows up as a multiple discount. The funds maximizing exit multiples build the second layer well before the LOI shows up. Confirmed succession at the top three seats. A VP bench that can run the play if a key leader leaves. A board narrative that makes durability visible. This work shows up as a multiple-protection exercise as much as an HR one. Buyers pay for durability. The work to build it happens in months 24 to 36, before it ever shows up in the data room. That's where exit value gets institutionalized. If you're in the back half of a hold and want to look hard at your second layer of leadership before a buyer does, let's talk. - Text-onlyIt's no longer competitive to operate in the old Partnership governance and reward model. That doesn't mean you have to take capital. But aligning to compete has to happen. A partnership run by committee moves slow. And slow is what's killing traditional firms right now. In investor-backed firms, decisions sit with a small group who can move fast and live with the outcome. In a traditional partnership, the same decision runs through committee after committee. Everyone gets a vote. Nobody owns the call. That structure was fine when the market rewarded consensus. It doesn't reward consensus anymore. It rewards speed. The firms making the boldest bets right now — on AI, on new practice areas, on acquiring talent — are the ones who cleaned up decision rights first. The second piece is how you pay people once the decision gets made. The old model pays partners the same whether they sold the old work or delivered a transformation worth hundreds of millions. That's backwards. Outcome-based work requires outcome-based incentives. This changes how firms should be hiring, too. Firms are still running searches looking for the best consultant on paper. What they should be looking for is a partner who's comfortable on both strategy and execution and wants to be paid on outcomes, because that's who thrives once the incentive structure changes. If you're adding Partners and want people who'll thrive once the incentives change, send me a message and I'm happy to share what we're seeing. - Text-onlyComp for CFOs and senior operators in PE-backed services keeps climbing, and it's climbing because deals aren't happening. There's no slack in the talent pool right now. On many searches there are 75-100 companies in the country that produce a particular profile, and we will methodically connect and stay in touch with the current and former talent from that group. Most of that talent has too much time and equity invested in their current company to look elsewhere. A smaller subset will be recruitable, but at increasing costs. Supply and demand. Without transactions executives don’t free up and come back to market, so that same finite group gets bid up by everybody at once. There are only two ways to create slack: you grow more of these people, which takes years, or you get transactions/consolidation that frees up the duplicative executive talent. We've watched high-demand talent in multiple sectors of the pro/tech services space go through the “money answer” several times and nobody stays anywhere long enough to create value for the company or their careers. Executives end up with multiple short stints on their resumes with little time to engage and actually get better at what they do, and companies are losing money and more importantly time. The fix isn't a bigger number, it's deals. If you're hiring a CFO or senior operator into a portfolio company right now, happy to compare notes on what we're seeing.
