AI has made execution simpler, but strategy more difficult. 1. If you’ve just read another post hyping up some great new AI development or application that sounds too good to be true, and/or 2. you wouldn’t have time to implement anyway because you’re too busy dealing with increasingly complex business challenges, I hear you. Shit is hard. There’s so much talk about how AI is empowering users and teams. And yes, it has made certain things faster and easier. But the reality is that marketing and sales are, in many ways, harder than ever. AI has radically decreased the time taken for many tasks. The catch? A lot of those tasks were previously done by junior team members or interns. Sure, it’s made senior work more efficient too. But exceptional work still takes time, focus, and real thinking. When anyone can prompt AI, you can’t rely on AI output to be your strategic differentiator. And all of this is happening against a backdrop that’s more chaotic than ever. The ecosystem of systems, platforms, and customer behaviours has exploded in complexity. And let’s be honest: most businesses weren’t exactly models of operational clarity before AI showed up. You’ll see endless posts about new AI-driven features in ad platforms. But most businesses don’t have the fundamentals in place to make use of them. Their data is broken. Their measurement is patchy. Their customer understanding was fuzzy years ago, never mind now. But somehow, AI is going to replace your marketing teams and supercharge your business? Even if those features worked as promised (and that’s a big if), most businesses wouldn’t be ready to benefit from them. In practice, many of these “AI enhancements” are creating more problems than they solve. Just look at the chaos with Meta re-enabling AI features that advertisers had deliberately turned off because they don’t work. AI has made some things much easier. It’s also made others more challenging than ever. This is why, at ATYP, our approach has been to stay lean and hire senior. We bring in people with judgment, creativity, and the ability to recognise connections that exist between people, not just in data. Then we use AI, systems, and data architecture to give them more time to do what only humans can: think deeply, collaborate meaningfully, and make sharper decisions. AI doesn’t replace human intelligence. It empowers it. We’re still learning and evolving, but every step brings us closer to the model we set out to build: Human intelligence, supported by technology, aligned around the customer. #Leadership #GrowthStrategy #StrategicThinking #TheRealityOfWork #ShitIsHard #RealTalkMarketing #DoingTheWork

The future of growth won’t come from agencies or consultancies — but from something in between. I read Gustaf Wick’s post about WPP losing $27 billion in market value and it really resonated. He’s right: the established agency model is broken. And so is the traditional consultancy model. Both were built for a world that no longer exists. In recent years, I’ve watched businesses get trapped between two extremes: Agencies that move fast but often lack commercial depth. Consultancies that understand business but often move too slowly to create real marketing impact. That gap between thinking and doing is exactly where so many teams get stuck. At ATYP, that’s the problem we’ve been learning how to solve. Not by reinventing either model, but by working to blend the best of both — strategy, creativity, and technology working together to move ideas into action faster. We do things differently; it’s in our name. Being Atypical means focusing on what actually works and what really matters — challenging the status quo to unlock real commercial value, fast. Our approach has been to stay lean and hire senior. Recruiting people who bring judgment, creativity, and the ability to recognise patterns that exist between people, not just in data. Then we use AI, systems, and data architecture to give them more time to do what only humans can: think deeply, collaborate meaningfully, and make sharper decisions. AI doesn’t replace human intelligence. It empowers it. It helps us move faster, plan smarter, and build the foundations for growth that lasts. We don’t just ideate and execute strategies; we’re agile, incisive, and we take ownership of outcomes — aiming to deliver impact now while building for what’s next. We’re still learning and evolving, but every step brings us closer to the model we set out to build: Human intelligence, supported by technology, aligned around the customer. #ATYP #BusinessGrowth #CustomerLedGrowth #Strategy #MarketingTransformation #HybridModel #AI #FutureOfWork

How do you increase paid media revenue by 50% year on year while spending less? That’s exactly what we achieved for a large, established business. No radical new strategy. No shiny new AI tool. No product overhaul. Performance a year ago was already relatively strong, and overall business strategy was sound. So how do you create that kind of growth without pulling new levers? By getting the fundamentals of marketing right, and doing so consistently. 1️⃣ Focus on the customer. Sharper audience insights. Clearer creative direction. More defined targeting. Better product alignment. Accept that this process takes time, and make that effort consistently. 2️⃣ Focus on planning and forecasting. Data-led budgets, refined over months to improve application and efficiency. Decisions supported by a model, but ultimately made by people. Human intelligence empowered by automation, not replaced by it. 3️⃣ Focus on alignment. Marketing, commercial, and leadership teams pulling in the same direction. Trust built and maintained through transparency and accountability. 4️⃣ Focus on process, then save and reinvest. Save human time — not to cut costs, but to create space for better thinking. Reinvest all the hours you save until there’s no longer a clear benefit to doing so. There are lots of shortcuts you can take. There are also lots you shouldn’t. In a world that’s increasingly impatient and derivative, human discipline and insight remain real differentiators. Especially when AI is used to empower, not substitute. Results: → 50% YoY paid media revenue growth → Less paid media spend Lesson: Do everything you can with existing levers before getting distracted by new ones. In an age of automation and shortcuts, doubling down on fundamentals isn’t old-fashioned; it can be a real competitive advantage. At ATYP, we believe the future of growth won’t come from agencies or consultancies alone; it’ll come from partnerships that unite strategy, creativity, and execution. We’re working hard to build that model, and these results are proof it works. If that sounds like the kind of partnership your business needs, we’d love to connect. #BusinessGrowth #MarketingLeadership #DigitalStrategy #PerformanceMarketing #ATYP #GrowthPartner
