In this part of the series, Caleb introduces one of the most important theories underpinning all of machine learning: the Law of Large Numbers. The idea is elegant. As your sample size grows, the mean of your sample gets closer and closer to the true mean of reality. And this isn't just a hypothesis, it's mathematically proven. What that means in practice is that you don't need all the data in the world for your model to represent reality. You just need enough of it. And that is exactly why the race for data in AI is not hype. It's math. You have a model. You have data. Now what? In this part of the series, Caleb walks through the actual algorithm behind training a machine learning model. You start with completely random numbers, multiply them against your data, measure how wrong you are, tweak the numbers slightly, and repeat. Over and over again until you land at the lowest possible error. That process is literally what training a model means. He also unpacks something most people gloss over: what "8 billion parameters" actually means. Those billions of numbers are just the A values being multiplied against billions of columns of data. Simple idea, massive scale. This is a 12 minute video and one of the most grounding explanations of ML training we have put out so far. F can be almost anything. A sum. A weighted sum. Fractions of values multiplied together. And that's exactly what makes machine learning research so complex, a huge part of it is just figuring out which form of F best represents reality. In part one of today's video, Caleb breaks down how researchers define F, why a simple linear equation is a perfectly valid starting point, and how we get from a basic function to what is essentially a regression model. He also introduces one of the most important distinctions in ML: the difference between the real Y and the predicted Y. This is where the math starts to connect to real world intuition. Part two is already up. Follow Akerion and go watch it now. #MachineLearning #AIEducation #ArtificialIntelligence #DataScience #TechForBeginners #Akerion

You have your model. You have your predictions. Now how do you actually tell if it's any good? The intuitive answer is to subtract the predicted value from the real one and see how close you are. But that breaks down fast because some predictions overshoot and some undershoot, and the errors cancel each other out giving you a completely misleading picture. In part two, Caleb walks through why squaring the differences solves this problem, and how that one insight leads directly to one of the most foundational concepts in machine learning: minimizing the sum of squared errors. Simple idea. Massive implications. Follow Akerion for the full series. #MachineLearning #AIEducation #ArtificialIntelligence #DataScience #TechForBeginners #Akerion

What if the secret to understanding machine learning came down to one letter? In this part of our series, Caleb breaks down one of the most foundational ideas in ML: the function. Any process that takes a value and gives out another value is a function. In machine learning, that function is your model. So when people talk about "training a model," what they really mean is this: you already have X (your inputs) and Y (your outputs). Your job is to find F. That is the whole task. Simple framing. Big implications. Follow Akerion for more of the series as we keep building on this foundation. #MachineLearning #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEducation #DataScience #TechForBeginners #Akerion

The math behind machine learning does not have to be intimidating. In Part 4 of Inside the Machine, Caleb breaks down how raw data gets translated into mathematical notation, the foundation that every machine learning model is built on. You put X in, the model spits Y out. Simple in theory, powerful in practice. If you are just joining us, catch up on Parts 1 to 3 on our page first.
