The software installs in 30 minutes. The firewall change takes six weeks. That’s often the reality of connecting on-premises storage to a cloud platform. The connector needs network access. That requires a change ticket. The ticket requires a security review. And the review waits for next month’s change board. At a client site, it’s even harder: you’re asking someone else’s security team to open an inbound path into their network. The Files.com On-Premise Agent takes a different approach. Install one binary on a Windows, Linux, or macOS server inside the network. The Agent makes a single outbound connection to Files.com over port 8801—and never listens for connections from outside. That means: • No inbound firewall rule • No port forwarding • No VPN • No gateway appliance to secure in a DMZ Your NAS, plant-floor file server, internal SFTP endpoint, or private S3 bucket becomes a folder that Files.com can read from and write to in place. The files remain on your servers. Partners and end users never connect to the Agent directly. Requests are proxied through Files.com, keeping internal systems invisible to the internet. Those folders also gain access to the broader Files.com platform: • Run automations • Schedule syncs • Give partners SFTP access to legacy shares without letting them into your network The six-week delay was never the cost of security. It was the cost of software that required a hole in the firewall. Install the Agent behind your firewall in minutes—without opening an inbound port. https://lnkd.in/gGtQeh-Z #CloudSecurity #FileTransfer #HybridCloud #ITInfrastructure #Cybersecurity

You rolled out a secure upload portal. Yet spreadsheets still leave by email. It’s not because employees are careless. The portal works. Everyone saw the announcement. But using it requires them to stop what they’re doing: → Open a browser → Sign in → Find the upload page → Locate the file already open in Excel → Upload it Attaching that same file to an email is muscle memory. And when security competes with habit, habit often wins. That creates a governance gap. Every file sent outside the portal bypasses its permission checks, audit logs, and retention policies. After all, a file exchange can govern only the files that reach it. The Files.com Desktop App closes that gap by bringing the governed exchange into the workflow employees already use. Files.com mounts as: • A drive letter in Windows File Explorer • A volume in macOS Finder Files stream on demand rather than syncing in the background, so local disks don’t fill up. Users can simply select Save As in Excel and save directly to Files.com. The experience changes. The governance doesn’t. Permissions, audit logging, retention policies, and SSO apply to every action because the drive is a window into Files.com—not a separate copy of the data. IT can deploy the app silently with Intune, Jamf, Group Policy, or SCCM. Updates are zero-touch. Users don’t need to install anything or learn a new process. They save a file to a folder, just as they always have. That’s why the drive succeeds where the portal may not: it makes the secure path the easiest path. Roll it out to the people who still email spreadsheets. They’ll barely notice—and that’s the point. https://lnkd.in/gGamqB2W

A week. That’s how long it took for one Managed File Transfer vendor to roll out a critical patch. But that's not even the worst part... The patch was released, but it still depended on teams like yours staying over the weekend to install it. The problem isn’t bad security teams — it’s outdated software design. Manual patching simply can’t match the speed of modern attackers. In this article, Lee Atchison breaks down: - The architectural flaw behind “patch latency” - Why SaaS changes the game - How real-world providers like Files.com secure faster, automatically If your security depends on IT teams installing patches fast enough… you’re not secure — you’re running a software museum.
