I remember my first forecast meeting. It's a horrible meeting. It's stressful. Nobody wants to explain why they failed to close the deal they promised to. Why they are not meeting quota. No other profession has this type of meeting. not marketing. not product. not engineering. Trust me I've been to all the other meetings. None come close. I also remember the top seller in that meeting. He was already at 200% of quota mid-quarter. He logged in with his camera off. He was the first to speak and he left the meeting after he finished talking (idk where, maybe he went golfing…). That's the life of being a seller. It's a rollercoaster. You're either at the top and answer to no one, or at the bottom, scared of losing your job. That was the moment I thought there must be a better way. Backdrop is the outcome of that moment. Ever feel like meeting bots are constantly trying to crash your calls? I get it: everybody wants to be in the room where it happens. Thing is, it often looks off, like when someone who didn’t show up to a meeting still had their meeting bot lurking in the meeting room. I’ve seen that too many times. That’s why, when we built Backdrop for in-call sales assistance, we had one design rule: NO MEETING BOTS. And it still holds. How do you lose a customer? You forget to cherish them. Not on our watch. Backdrop Swag-Kits are packed and shipping out this week to the teams who choose us every day. They let Backdrop into their most important calls. We make sure that trust pays off, deal after deal. Hoodies don’t drive retention. Good products do. But a thank you never hurts. BIGGEST mistake junior sellers make (myself included). Thinking a great demo is enough to close the deal. They can love the product and still have no reason to buy it this quarter. You need to know why they’d act now, and give the person on the call a case they can make to everyone else. Or 2 weeks later, you’re sending your 4th “Just bumping this” email. --- P.S. we are building something that solves this https://lnkd.in/d8PUAS4u

10 questions to ask on every demo call you run today. I used to get on a demo and start presenting. Show the product, ask "any questions?" at the end, wonder why the deal goes dark. Now I always ask at least these, in this order: FIRST THING "I know you're busy, so besides being nice, why'd you take this one?" Ask it in the first two minutes. Yes, even on outbound. They almost never take outbound calls. So the fact they took yours is the most interesting thing you'll hear all call. BEFORE YOU SHOW ANYTHING How do they do it today. What breaks. What does that cost them. Question 3 is the one most reps skip. "How are these challenges impacting your team?" Nobody buys a feature. They buy relief from what the problem is costing them. If you never ask, you never find out. MID-DEMO Stop and check. "Any questions?" gets you silence. "To what degree is this resonating so far?" gets you an answer you can work with. RIGHT AFTER YOU SHOW IT Tie the feature back to the problem they gave you five minutes ago. Then make them say out loud how it compares to today. Once they say it, it's theirs. MAKE THEM OWN IT "How do you see your team using that?" is for the buyer who signs but never logs in. Get them picturing their reps in it. READ THE ROOM When it lands, dig for why. When it doesn't, ask where you're off. I used this cheatsheet before I had Backdrop to do it for me. Try Backdrop free -> https://lnkd.in/gMPw_vVB

I am a decent engineer. I was a terrible seller. When I started selling, my biggest fear was the live call. Every time a prospect named a competitor I had never heard of, I would freeze. I knew our product was better. But in the moment, trying to remember what made us different from 15 other startups on the market was impossible. I would scramble to find a battlecard on my other screen while trying to look casual. People think the solution is more training. Make reps memorize endless competitor matrices. But when they get on a live call under pressure, that knowledge is hard to recall. The top 1% of sellers do not succeed because they memorized 20 battlecards. They succeed because they can guide the conversation and position themselves instantly. We built Backdrop to give every seller that confidence on day one. It is a live, in-call assistant that reads the transcript and pushes the exact competitor counterpoints and discovery questions you need, the moment they come up. Think of it like Waze. The driver is still in control, but they never get lost.
