Today on Day 2 from the #UpperBound2026 stage, Minister Nate Glubish joined Amii CEO Cam Linke to announce the launch of the Health Innovation Lab, a transformative new initiative led and delivered by Amii. Supported by a $10M from the Government of Alberta, this three-year initiative is designed to bridge the gap between world-class research and real-world clinical application. The Health Innovation Lab will move AI from the lab to the clinic, focusing on Al solutions that empower healthcare providers and improve patient outcomes. By integrating predictive tools and automated workflows, the Lab aims to address the most pressing challenges within our healthcare system—streamlining clinical delivery and providing the critical insights needed to enhance the quality of care across the province. Five years ago, we started Upper Bound as a celebration of Alberta’s 20-year legacy in AI research. It has since evolved into a world-class gathering where Canada’s AI future is being built. Today we are excited to announce that Upper Bound is officially SOLD OUT for 2026! 🎉 In just five years, this event has welcomed over 16,000 members of the global AI community to Edmonton to spark the collisions that advance AI science, optimize business, scale startups and map national projects. As the Honourable Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation, notes: “Alberta has long served as a global hub for artificial intelligence, driven by institutions like Amii and a thriving innovation ecosystem. The fact that Upper Bound has sold out underscores the strength of our province’s leadership in AI, our ability to attract top talent and investment, and the growing role Alberta plays in shaping the future of technology and economic growth.” We can't wait to welcome 8,000 of you to Edmonton next month to imagine—and realize—an optimistic AI future. A recent Government of Canada report released in December ranked Canada as the second least productive country in the G7. In a new feature with The Globe and Mail, Amii’s Chief Revenue Officer Marlene McNaughton explains why the path forward requires moving past the hesitancy to begin. Marlene highlights that the real risk for many leaders is the high cost of indecision. While many stall waiting for a "perfect moment," AI is fundamentally iterative and requires starting now to build momentum. To secure long-term value, she suggests that companies focus on developing proprietary AI solutions and internal talent simultaneously. By working alongside experts like Amii, organizations can de-risk this transition and maintain control of their own data while building the in-house capacity needed to compete globally. At Amii, "AI for Good and for All" is defined by tangible results that improve our communities. We see this impact in the "ER scribe" that restores the human connection between doctors and patients, and in the autonomous systems ensuring reliable, clean water for remote communities. These are a few of the practical applications that turn technological breakthroughs into a better society. Our Chief Delivery Officer, Stephanie Enders, was recently featured in The Globe and Mail sharing how Amii moves beyond theory in the lab and into human-centered outcomes. As Stephanie highlights, a key measure of success for AI is the incremental improvements that make our daily lives better. By focusing on responsible innovation and trust, we are ensuring that the future of AI is one that supports our health, our environment, and our communities.
