More than 30 million people in Europe are estimated to be blind or visually impaired. White canes and guide dogs remain essential, but some urban mobility challenges persist, from navigating open spaces without tactile references to detecting obstacles at mid-height. Driving Blind is an Italdesign proof of concept that combines smart glasses, environmental perception technologies and audio feedback to complement existing mobility aids. Its development draws on more than 200 interviews with blind and visually impaired people and early user testing conducted in partnership with Associazione Insuperabili. Our new whitepaper, “Driving Blind: Restoring Autonomy and Safety to Visually Impaired People”, explores the research, development process and technical feasibility demonstrated by the prototype. The art of integration enters a new chapter. Italdesign is now part of UST. Our design and engineering work gains new depth in AI, software and digital engineering. The September issue of Future in Progress starts there. In this issue, Point Zero and Italdesign present a new braking solution, and we explain what EN 9100 certification opens up for us in aerospace. On the design side: a project on accessible mobility and a watch created with D1 MILANO. We also look back at Turin's automotive events and at our partnership with Politecnico di Torino, which keeps our teams' skills up to date. Read the full issue and subscribe to follow what comes next. #Italdesign #BEIDENEERS #TheArtOfIntegration

What happens when time is designed to move? For D1 Milano, Giugiaro Design developed a timepiece inspired by a world where speed, precision and aesthetics converge. The asymmetrical 40 mm case combines irregular polished facets with satin surfaces, creating a dynamic play of light and a form that conveys movement even when standing still. On the dial, 120 micro-notches set a precise mechanical rhythm, while red accents on the hands recall a distinctive element of Giugiaro Design’s visual language. Just 7 mm thick, with the crown positioned at 4 o’clock and a Milanese mesh bracelet, the watch balances bold geometry with ergonomics and comfort. Developed by Italdesign, the packaging extends the same design approach beyond the timepiece itself. Discover the project. #Italdesign #BEIDENEERS #TheArtOfIntegration #D1Milano

Without software, a vehicle doesn't move. Without hardware, a vehicle doesn't exist. These are the words I used, last Monday, to describe, to the many journalists who joined us at the press conference here in Moncalieri, where we walked through the details of UST ‘s acquisition of a majority stake in Italdesign, what this partnership is really about. On one side, Italdesign's long history: almost 60 years of legendary projects that have, in many ways, become part of all your lives, and a vertically integrated approach that has defined us since the day we were founded, spanning design, engineering and production. On the other, UST's ability to build software and artificial intelligence systems capable of transforming how companies work, creating speed, value and purpose. In our historic field, automotive, the synergies are the easiest to see and understand. But common ground exists just as much in our newer areas of expansion, aerospace, robotics, and across the wider world of innovation in which we have worked successfully for decades. Both Krishna Sudheendra, UST's CEO, whom I thank for choosing to meet the entire Italdesign team in person, and I know one thing: no visionary project holds up without talented, motivated and determined people behind it. That is the real center of this partnership: the mutual trust our teams have already begun building from day one, and the ability to bring together vision and excellence to widen the horizons ahead, for Italdesign and for UST alike. To our people, my thanks, for everything achieved so far and for all the major projects that will come to light in the months ahead. Italdesign's new chapter has already begun. This is where the future of software-defined mobility, robotics, aerospace and beyond is being built.

At Italdesign, ideas are just the beginning. Through collaboration, integrated expertise and a global vision, we turn complexity into clarity and creativity into measurable value. Today, as a UST company, we bring this approach to a larger stage, widening the horizon of what we can achieve while staying true to the identity that has always defined us. From ideation to engineering, we develop solutions designed for the real world and for what comes next. We are Engineers of Ideas. Let’s build tomorrow together. #Italdesign #BEIDENEERS #EngineersOfIdeas #UST

Italdesign has just received EN 9100:2018 certification for the aerospace, space and defence sectors, issued by Bureau Veritas. It's a formal recognition of work we've been doing for some time, now verified against the same standard used across the aerospace supply chain, at our sites in Moncalieri and Nichelino. What matters most to me is the principle behind it: we asked an independent body to assess our processes, rather than describing our own quality ourselves. That distinction, being checked rather than self-declared, is worth more than the certificate itself. Thanks to Giulio Toesca, Barbara Crivello and all the Italdesign team that made this possible, across engineering, quality and operations. I’m very proud of all of you! #Aerospace #EN9100 #Italdesign
